[Drakelist] L-75 cabinet feet

2009-02-19 Thread Kim Briggs
Hi, Does anyone have a source for the original cabinet feet as fitted to
an L-75 amp. I have just had one collapse, from what appears to be old
age it has attacked the L-7 amps cover!!!

If there aren't any out there I'll probably use some generic rubber
feet, as it is a slippery plastic probably not glueable.

[Drakelist] TR-7 S meter issue

2009-02-19 Thread David Chris Drake
Hi, maybe someone on the list can help me troubleshoot this. My TR-7 is now
working VG+ with with one exception. the S meter reads way high on receive.
Wattmeter portion is correctly set per manual, and all other receive
alignments are spot on per the manual.

I've gone over the S-meter setup 3 times, and same result. An S-9 signal is 30
over, calibrate is about the same, 30 over. I've tried a separate signal
generator at 50mv and its 30+ over (elecraft oscillator). Same 50mv signal gen
used to check TR4C and its S-8, and TTec Omni VI is same.

Any ideas as to where I should look first? Or, are any other alignment
settings critical enough as to indirectly cause this problem?

Thanks,
David

[Drakelist] Drake MN2000 questions

2009-02-19 Thread Gypsymt34
Hello to the group,
First? Does anyone have an MN2000 parts rig ?
Oh yes; I still have a spare cabinet for one, will need refinishing, but a
great big black cabinet.

Second? Did the unit come with an aluminum top side cover when out of the
cabinet. The holes are all drilled and tapped, but every picture I can
scrounge has no cover.
This project is going to be interesting as I have a piece really worked over
by someone whom I believe burned a lot of stuff out.

73's and there is always next winter, my wife says boat stuff has to start
pretty quick.

Yes, the MN-2000 is completely enclosed. The outer black cabinet is for

I really hope you mean 50 uV, rather than 50 mV. The holy grail seems
to be 50 uV for S-9 these days, although I have seen some radios over

Re: [Drakelist] Drake MN2000 questions

2009-02-19 Thread Kris Merschrod
Yes, Carl, the tuner was completely enclosed in an AL box and that slid into
the usual Drake black container. It was a beautiful shielding job.

They were built like a battleship and some folks modified them to handle other
bands. Great coils and great capacitors.

The only wear and tear that I see on mine is that the connectors centers are
worn thin by so much plug and un plug. (Another little replacement project!)

The nice part is the alternative jack for say a dummy load for tuning up the
rig.

[Drakelist] TR7 Digital control PCB

2009-02-19 Thread Douglas
I recently had a most significant digit error on my TR7. What was happening was
that the readout showed 4053, when the actual frequncy should have been 14053,
for example, when the bandswitch was set to 20 mtrs. Likewise it showed 11053
when it should have been 21053 on 15 mtrs.

The synthesizer was off - it wasn't a readout error.

The problem was in the digital control pcb. I had a spare and installing the
spare solved the problem.

However, I note that there are two versions of the digital control PCB.
My original one has a PROM plus a digital divider circuit. The replacement one
(older version?) has no PROM but does everything with counter/divider chips.
From a quick logic probe check I suspect that the PROM is bad in the original
PCB. The technical manual shows both versions.

Anyone know of a source of these PROMS for one of these digital control PCBs??
Does the firmware exist? It programs each Amateur Band.
Anyone know why the two versions exist? Are there more problems with one?

tnx es 73,

Doug/WA1TUT

I suspect the PROM version was a cost-cutting measure by Drake. I know
that there is someone, can't remember who, offering a replacement for
the PROM on the DR7, but I've not seen anyone offering the PROM for the
digital control board. It shouldn't be too hard to figure out the
programming, though. Personally, anything with a PROM makes me a little
nervous, for the reasons you are experiencing. AFAIK, there is no real
advantage to the board with the PROM, and the non-PROM board is a
little easier to modify to do a PROPER all-band transmit mod.
