[Drakelist] R-4C PTO bearings - adjustment?
Right then, so far this R-4C is now working, I have managed to find the transformer, xtals and NB board, thanks for all those who responded, what a great group this is :-), the radio works (mainly alignment) thanks to the xtals from my other 4C, however the PTO bearings are very loose so the knob moves up and down a lot more than it should, I have removed the unit and taken a quick look, now before I strip and damage it are there any procedures I should be doing in order to remove the play in the bearings. I took the can off the rear and looked inside for an adjuster but non seems to be there. 73 Max -- I am using the free version of SPAMfighter. We are a community of 6 million users fighting spam. Re: [Drakelist] R-4C PTO bearings - adjustment?
Max - There IS an adjustment. It is an Allen head setscrew that in on the REAR of the lead screw. Since you already have the can off, it's fairly easy to spot on the rear wall of the gearbox. Check to see that all ten (10) ball bearings are in the front, if it's that loose, one or more may have fallen out. They are 0.125 dia, and are available at most True Value or Ace Hardware stores. DON'T overtighten, just enough to take out the play or side-to-side movement of the knob. 73, Garey - K4OAH Glen Allen, VA Drake 2-B, 4-B, C-Line TR-4/C Service Supplement CDs www.k4oah.com AirRadio wrote: Right then, so far this R-4C is now working, I have managed to find the transformer, xtals and NB board, thanks for all those who responded, what a great group this is :-), the radio works (mainly alignment) thanks to the xtals from my other 4C, however the PTO bearings are very loose so the knob moves up and down a lot more than it should, I have removed the unit and taken a quick look, now before I strip and damage it are there any procedures I should be doing in order to remove the play in the bearings. [Drakelist] (no subject)
Hi to all: This is a T4X-C question. I have a C-Line and I am giving the T-4XC an alignment (R-4C too). (1) 80 meters challenge: 80 meters has lower output than all the other bands. I noticed three of the four alignment trimmer capacitors on the left side of radio (T-4XC) are cranked tight as can be. The trimmer/alignment capacitor closest to front of radio seems normal. It is not cranked tight. With the other tree trimmers it as if one cannot reduce capacitance enough to raise the output power. When I finally got these three trimmers unstuck, from being over tighten, the power output went down to effectively nothing. I cannot get any power out unless these three timmer capacitors are over tightened. This is not correct. Any ideas what I can do to fix this? 73, Chuck - AA5WG Cedar, Michigan ___ Drakelist mailing list Drakelist@zerobeat.net http://mailman.zerobeat.net/mailman/listinfo/drakelist
