Re: [Drakelist] TR-4 CW VOX Delay

2010-01-23 Thread Gary Poland
I have found that to get the CW delay that I prefer, increasing R106 above 3.3
meg is not enough. In fact you will reach a point where the VOX will hang. I
suggest replacing C143 with a .47 ufd capacitor and then experiment with values
for R106. You could instead mount a pot in an unused hole at the rear of the
TR-4 for varying the delay.

These resistors occasionally fail. Note: most tube checkers do not have
the current to "check" a 6jb6 accurately.

Good luck.

Sounds like the Bias supply may have failed, or be failing. Have you been
able to set the transmitter idle current per the manual?.

Re: [Drakelist] TR-4 CW VOX Delay

2010-01-23 Thread dassaf
Look at the schematic. Adjusting r 106 will adjust the delay. This is a
stock 3.3 M resistor, increasing it will increase the delay. I have done
this before and it brings the control in line that the same setting on the
antivox control is good for both cw and ssb. apparently, not all radios
need this change to bring both cw and ssb into line with the delay.

Good luck.

I "feel your pain" on this problem. What I finally did was follow a little
paragraph "ditty" in the TR-4C's manual (and Ron Baker's suggestion) and
added a small manual "on-off" switch plugged into the mike socket. It works
for me.

Like you, I found it VERY annoying having the CW/VOX relay "drop-out"
practically between characters.

Good Morning All:

Playing with a nice TR4 here and wondering if there is a way to extend the
delay when using CW mode. I see very little difference from CCW to CW on
the VOX control in CW although it works fine in SSB.
Would like to lengthen the drop out time without messing up the VOX level
control.

Curt -

VOX delay is adjusted with R106, which is selected at final test. It is
designed for SSB, as is the rest of the TR-4. You _might_ be able to
find a value that is a reasonable compromise over the narrow range of
adjustment provided by the VOX GAIN control, but ...

Initial value for R106 is 3.3M. Depending upon how you feel about
modifications, you could replace R106 with a pot and mount it on the rear
panel.
