Almost certainly not. A tube tester will not check tubes for this type
of problem.

Did you check any of the things I suggested when I replied the first time??

V7 6EH5 the AF output but speaker sounds good
V8 6HS6 Premixer
V1 6BZ6 RF Amp

All of these tubes test slightly weak but would this cause a sudden
loss of muting ability?

My B-line has been working but today that after hooking it back up
(was working on a TR-4) I noticed that the R-4b was not muting or
going into Standby.

In standby or ext mute (w/o short in RCA Mute)audio is distorted
RF Gain only raises S Meter to 20 over or so.

Something seems to have changed since I used it last a few weeks ago.

Could this be a tube failing or ??

Yes, it is a roofing-filter.

What impact does this filter have on the selectivity of an R-4A since the later
filters determine the bandwidth and I prefer a wider skirt for AM reception?

Re: [Drakelist] Adapter/Adaptor

2011-02-16 Thread Garey Barrell

Grant -

No real 'adapter' needed. A piece of coax, RG-58 / 59, or low capacity
microphone cable, as short as possible. The receiver end center
conductor goes into any of the ACCESSORY XTAL sockets on the back
panel. It needs to go into the pins that are all tied together with a
piece of bus wire. Then the shield needs to go to chassis ground
nearby, NOT the 'other' crystal pin. Then switch to ANY crystal switch
except for NORM. The cable should be disconnected at the receiver end
when crystals are being used, although there is no longer any reason to
use crystals!

By the way, the FS-4 will be 10 kHz off frequency for ONE of the two
receivers. The "B" and other 4 Series Ham receivers need an injection
frequency that is 11.1 MHz above the bottom end of the desired band,
while the SPR-4 requires 11.09 MHz. The crystal in the FS-4 must be
changed to the 'correct' one for an accurate dial reading, i.e., 9.6 MHz
for the R-4 series, and 9.59 for the SPR-4.

One source is the June 2004 QST. The article, by Steve C. Hageman is called
