[Drakelist] R4C HYBRID
MY R4C HYBRID #27948 HAS LOST ABOUT 20DB OF SIGNAL STRENGTH. IT SEEMS TO HEAR OK BUT THE S METER SHOWS ~20DB LOWER ALL THE TIME. IT HAS 4 SOLID STATE TUBE REPLACEMENTS FOR 6EJ6 TUBES. I HAVE SWAPPED THE TUBE REPLACEMENTS AROUND A FEW TIMES WITH NO CHANGE IN SIGNAL STRENGTH. IS THEIR A WAY TO CHECK THESE SOLID STATE REPLACEMENTS? CAN I REPLACE THE SOLID STATE TUBES WITH REGULAR TUBES? ANY SUGGESTIONS ON WHAT ELSE WILL CAUSE A 20BD LOSS OF SIGNAL STRENGTH? Randy, If the "sticky paint" is the problem, give Claudio's (I4YHH) solution a try: _http://www.wb4hfn.com/DRAKE/DrakeArticles/StickPaintFix.htm_ (http://www.wb4hfn.com/DRAKE/DrakeArticles/StickPaintFix.htm) It does actually work! 73 Lee WB6SSW ___ Drakelist mailing list Drakelist@zerobeat.net http://mailman.zerobeat.net/mailman/listinfo/drakelist

Randy, I hope someone will chime in on the paint, but Mike March, K4QU,makes the plastic end caps FAR cheaper than I have seen them on Ebay. He has three sizes, as I remember, to cover the TR7, accessories and the L7 amps. Email him at mikek...@gmail.com . No connection other than a VERY satisfied customer. [Drakelist] TR7 refurb
Greetings to all, I just purchased a TR7 that needs some TLC. Need recommendations on paint for the cabinet, source for plastic end caps (watching some on Ebay currently), microphones (yes, I realize a lot of personal preference is involved here). Wondering if anyone has adapted a computer/cell phone headset to the TR7? Thanks for the help. Re: [Drakelist] L4B Question
Woody - Well, it's been 32 years since I did the 10m mod on my new L-4B but as I recall you should be able to simply replace the LP filter with a straight piece of coax (can't help with the 10m input coil/cap procurement). Once that's done you should have no problem putting the Soft-Start PCB in placeI just did it a couple of weeks ago. Contrary to the instructions my amp actually had the terminal strip oriented such that I didn't have to move it...I THINK it was built that way to accommodate the LP filter box and thus no moving required. Am sure one of the guys will chime in with info about the input components. If you look at the front panel you'll probably see that there's a small spot of gray paint in the place where the "10" should be on the plate tuning and band switch. Back in the day I took an eraser and gently removed that paint to reveal the numeralsYMMV. Good luck! 73 - Dino KL0S On Mar232011, at 0855 AM, Woody wrote: > Hello, as you will be able to tell I'm not a tech, just a broke down Old > Vietnam Vet who loves Drakes and am lucky enough to have a good collection. > My question is I am in the process of redoing a L4B, using the Harbach Mods, > soft start, soft key and power supply kit. Re: [Drakelist] L4B Question
Hi Woody, I added a Harbach Soft Start board to my L-4B about a year ago and I mounted it exactly where the soft start instructions suggested and it works very well. You will need to adjust slightly the binding post where the small electrolytic cap is mounted, but that is all. Good luck with your project and it is a very worthwhile mod to make. 73, Tom, W1CC On Wed, Mar 23, 2011 at 8:55 AM, Woody wrote: > *Hello, as you will be able to tell I'm not a tech, just a broke down Old > Vietnam Vet who loves Drakes and am lucky enough to have a good collection. > * > *My question is I am in the process of redoing a L4B, using the Harbach > Mods, soft start, soft key and power supply kit.
