[Drakelist] Will this crystal work?

2011-10-05 Thread Neil M Califano
I found a crystal that looks like an hc6u with the 1/2 inch pin spread,
labeled CB crystal, 26.1 mhz. Will it work in an R4A?

[Drakelist] Making those knobs like new again.

2011-10-05 Thread Steve Wedge
Some of you probably have already known this, but I had a flash of inspiration
today on how to get the aluminum inserts on the B-Line main tuning knobs to
have that nice, turned look again. Turn 'em!

So, I took the three sorry-looking knobs I had out to the woodshop, chucked up
a 1/4 drill bit in the drill press, installed each knob on the bit and ran the
press at about 800 rpm. I took a piece of 2500-grit sandpaper and ran it back
and forth across the face. Voila! Knobs look almost as good as new!

Of course, this procedure won't remove any dings, and you need to be careful
not to hit the plastic too much. It's a massive improvement!

I did a National knob using a hand drill once many years ago. It looked great,
for a while, until the bare aluminum began to oxidize. One of these days I need
to re-do it and treat the aluminum with something afterwards,

Probably. It will cover 15.5 to 16 MHz. It may not oscillate on exactly it's marked frequency
depending up how it was made. Series resonant, parallel resonant, capacitive load specified, etc.
It could be off by a few kHz one way or another.

Just to clarify. The link you provided for this crystal shows it as being for 26.6 MHz, not 26.1
MHz as you stated in your message.

Subtracting 11.1 means that it will provide coverage from 'about' 15.5 - 16.0
MHz
