Arnie,
Not exactly sure about the dummy load, but the TR7 (actually all Drakes) put
out surprisingly low average power.? On a W4 with a peak hold adapter, my TR7
puts out about 160-180 watts.? On averages it looks like about 40 watts.

One question is where and how are you measuring the dummy load power?? In line
watt meter, or voltage across the DL? ? What is the s/power meter on the TR7
saying for ant vs DL? ?

Ron WD8SBB

Probably will decrease the desirability somewhat. They are not black
but a dark brown.

There is a well documented approach to renewing the sticky paint. Using
a treatment with oven cleaner and a silicone sealant like amorall.

Re: [Drakelist] A dumb ? maybe TR-7 case color

2011-10-27 Thread Garey Barrell

Arnie -

Not really. Originals were a black with a brownish cast to it, but
unfortunately didn't hold up very well. There have been a few
'procedures' for repairing the paint, with 'some' success. They later
went to another paint (non-sticky) which was more black than anything else.

Drake sold replacement cabinet covers late in production that WERE just
semi-flat black, similar to the 4 Series cabinets. I don't know if any
were new units originally shipped with the black cabinets, but all the
replacements cabinets were black.

If a TR-7 is in good condition, the black cover would make no difference
to me.

The color of the TR7 case both sticky paint and vinyl clad was dark
gray. Some time after the production of ham radios was stopped,

Drake made replacement cases for the 7 line that were black vinyl clad.

Joe -

Interesting. I have two replacement cabinets, and both are just painted
black. I do know that many of the accessory cabinets I have are the
very dark gray (kinda like St. James gray, more black than gray) and are
of the vinyl clad material. I think that same material was used on some
of the later 4 Series accessory cabinets as well. Wattmeters, etc.

2011-10-27 Thread Gary Poland
The TR-7 line cabinets where always a gray color, either the early “ sticky “
paint or a textured gray vinyl finish. The later replacement cabinets were
black since that was what they used for some of their satellite equipment
cabinets. Some people have striped the sticky paint down to the underlying
black base color or have repainted them black. I have TR-7’s with all three
style cases. The black vinyl ones where purchased new.

Paul -

There is a copy of the ad on my CD for the 2-B, and I think I sent it to
at least one of the Drake websites. I believe 'hfn has it.

It's for the 2-B, and operates at 455 kHz. It used one of the Japan
made mechanical filters that were available at the time.
