[Drakelist] Off topic: Do you want to try remote?

2012-01-25 Thread Sindre Torp
Hi everybody,
This is off topic, however it's slightly related to Drake.

I'm looking for someone who wants to try remote operation. Well my reason for
this was in the first place selfish: I want primary to be able to listen to and
join the Drake nets on 80m (and 40m?)

I'll provide you with almost all equipment that will be needed in both ends,
except for any simple wire antenna (80 and 40, W3DZZ, Windom etc.), internet
connection (cableconnection from router to remotebox) and maybe a powersupply
at your QTH (or a club-QTH), .
You will be able to operate a TS-480 (or maybe IC-706MkIIG) remotely and
located in Norway.
No computers are involved. Only a couple of boxes from www.remoterig.com
(provided by me)

And I must be able to operate a TS-480 (provided by me) at yours or maybe a
club's QTH remotely from Norway.

Please contact me off list directly to sindt...@online.no if this sounds
interesting for you to discuss further, or for your club or anybody you know.

Thanks for your attention!

See you at The Drake Forum, Dayton Hamvention in May.

73, Sindre - LA6OP

[Drakelist] odd question non Drake

2012-01-25 Thread Gypsymt34
Hi to the group,
Am working on a Icom transceiver. Long story short. Power supply
switching type, all stuff pc mount (quite the build, as in bomb proof,
literally
screwed lids etc unit ), in any case a rattle...Got it apart.. AND FELT
LUCKY

..Has anyone ever seen an aluminum cap (black non standard printing) put
over a standard electrolytic capacitor (blue 85 D.) ?
Is it solely to make it proprietary, or was it used for cooling? In any
case it fell off, I got real lucky it didn't ground out anything. There
are at least four more caps with that arrangement.

Interesting and bothersome as all the components were upside down in the
PS normal mounted position.
Wondering whether I should try to get them all off.
