Since my B-line has been operational, I started on refurbing the C-line,
starting with the T4XC & AC-4. I installed another of Paul's upgrade kits in
the AC-4. Cleaned up the T4XC and looked everything over.
When I fired up the T4XC on the bench (separate, no rcvr), thru my Bird 43 and
my 200W, 30db attenuator with an additional 20db pad on the end of it that I
use as a load. The xmtr show output on 7, 14, & 21 bands but the RF tune peaked
in the wrong places (not in the band). I hooked up the freq. counter and found
the frequencies to be way off. EX: the 7 mhz peak was at 5.6 mhz. There is an
accessory xtal installed for 28.0 mhz in position 1 and when switching to that
position with the XTALS switch, everything worked normally. The RF Tune peaked
at the correct spot and the counter read correctly. I found that the wafer of
the Band Switch that switches the band xtals showed an open, the common
terminal (wiper). It all looked good but showed open. I applied Deoxit with a
Q-tip and everything started to work normally. I've found intermittent
connections before but never a "full open", especially when the switch looks
all OK. It was reading in the megohms!
Anyway, apparently the T4XC is OK and I'll start on the two R4Cs.
