Re: [Drakelist] L-7, 3-500Z filament out??
also check the tube socket. the springs tend to lose tension and cause intermittent problems and can cause a rise in resistance and heat due to weak contact George On Dec 18, 2010, at 1:26 AM, LEE BAHR pulsa...@embarqmail.com wrote: Yes, you got it, the filament wire coming out of the glass envelope is most likely not soldered to it's pin. (Outside looks mean nothing). It could be one pin or the other. Maybe it was never soldered properly by the manufacturer but as someone else mentioned, many times the tension of the spring in the tube socket can let go and thus not make a good connection with the tube pin. then the resistance heats up the connection and the solder lets go and/or the tension on the tube socket from the heat gets even weaker. Bending the tube socket pins can help, but if the spring action is gone due to heat, the tube socket should be replaced with one with better spring tension built into the metal itself. (heat is a killer). Silver solder is a good idea too when re soldering the pins as well as a heat shield for the glass as you re-solder the two pins. You have all the good advice you need. Go do it. We all think your problem will then be solved. Thanks for the replies Everyone, I'm gathering that it's possible for the pins to look good, with a nice closure on the end of the pin, even though the solder has re-melted and disassociated from the wire up inside?? As suggested, I will attempt to re-solder the filament pins and see what happens. I guess nothing would be lost, as the alternative is purchasing another tube. Does anyone have any suggestions for what type of solder and flux should be used in this process? Are there any special considerations that should be taken into account here due to the heat sensitivity of the application? 73 with regards, Joe Loverti Jr. WS8X ___ Drakelist mailing list Drakelist@zerobeat.net http://mailman.zerobeat.net/mailman/listinfo/drakelist ___ Drakelist mailing list Drakelist@zerobeat.net http://mailman.zerobeat.net/mailman/listinfo/drakelist ___ Drakelist mailing list Drakelist@zerobeat.net http://mailman.zerobeat.net/mailman/listinfo/drakelist

Re: [drakelist] T4X transformer 14
George Cortez Jr [EMAIL PROTECTED] made an utterance to the drakelist gang -- Thanks for the reply, Garey I did check it and it seemed ok. I did replace C9 a 27pf cap on the output of the xfmr because it was damaged when I removed T14. I put it all back together and now I see output. It gets down to the mixer and then gets weak. It never does make it to the driver tube. I may need to swap the mixer or driver tube and I have them on order. This is a first trouble shooting with Drake equipment and using the o scope. It makes things a lot easier. Thanks George Cortez NE2I Garey Barrell wrote: Garey Barrell [EMAIL PROTECTED] made an utterance to the drakelist gang -- George - Unless the coil is physically damaged, the problem might be with the diodes. They have a penchant for shorting to the can, or may just be blown. They are germanium 1N270s, but can be replaced with Schottky 1N5711 or other modern diode. They really don't need matching because the modern diodes are so much more uniform in manufacture. If you have a DMM with a Diode Test function, you can select four with similar forward junction voltages. 73, Garey - K4OAH Glen Allen, VA Drake 2-B, 4-B, C-Line TR-4/C Service Supplement CDs www.k4oah.com George Cortez Jr wrote: George Cortez Jr [EMAIL PROTECTED] made an utterance to the drakelist gang -- Hi all Does anyone have a T14 from a junker T4X?
