It is probably me (wife will testify regarding my sock selection) but I would swear my TR7 sticky paint is a shade of muddy brown. Especially when placed beside something black. Re: [Drakelist] A dumb ? maybe TR-7 case color
It could be both Curt. I have two TR7s and a mobile TR7 cover that look black to me. However, I think Drake called it TR7 grey. The TR7 I bought brand new in 1979, has the so-called sticky paint as does the optional mobile cover I bought at the same time, they both look black. The sticky paint and the non-sticky paint look the same color black to me, just the texture is different. Having said that if you go shopping for cloths, something I rarely do anymore since I'm retired, or paint you'll find that there are many shades of black. I have a pair of black dress pants that do NOT go with any black shirt or jacket that I own because in the sun light the pants look dark brown. So call it what you want, black isn't just black anymore, and maybe it never was! :-) Steve w7jsc - Original Message - From: Curt cptc...@flash.net To: drakelist@zerobeat.net Sent: Friday, October 28, 2011 7:01 AM Subject: Re: [Drakelist] A dumb ? maybe TR-7 case color It is probably me (wife will testify regarding my sock selection) but I would swear my TR7 sticky paint is a shade of muddy brown. Re: [Drakelist] A dumb ? maybe TR-7 case color
Arnie - Not really. Originals were a black with a brownish cast to it, but unfortunately didn't hold up very well. There have been a few 'procedures' for repairing the paint, with 'some' success. They later went to another paint (non-sticky) which was more black than anything else. Drake sold replacement cabinet covers late in production that WERE just semi-flat black, similar to the 4 Series cabinets. I don't know if any were new units originally shipped with the black cabinets, but all the replacements cabinets were black. If a TR-7 is in good condition, the black cover would make no difference to me. -- 73, Garey - K4OAH St Charles, IL Drake 2-B, 2-C/2-NT, 4-A, 4-B, C-Line and TR-4/C Service Supplement CDs www.k4oah.com ARNIE PATTON wrote: My TR-7 case is the sticky paint and just looks bad can i paint it a nice semi gloss black and if i ever sell it will it hurt the resale price just for FYI n9kjk ___ Drakelist mailing list Drakelist@zerobeat.net http://mailman.zerobeat.net/mailman/listinfo/drakelist

Re: [Drakelist] A dumb ? maybe TR-7 case color
The TR-7 line cabinets where always a gray color, either the early “ sticky “ paint or a textured gray vinyl finish. The later replacement cabinets were black since that was what they used for some of their satellite equipment cabinets. Some people have striped the sticky paint down to the underlying black base color or have repainted them black. I have TR-7’s with all three style cases. The black vinyl ones where purchased new. 73, Gary___ Drakelist mailing list Drakelist@zerobeat.net http://mailman.zerobeat.net/mailman/listinfo/drakelist
