[Drakelist] Antenna question
Hello to the group, Has anyone out there installed a Hy-Gain MK80 adapter (80 meter top loading coil setup) on top of their Hy-Gain 14AVQ (10-490 meter) VerticalNote this is a non WARC setup. If you have how much did you have to trim the 40 metier capacitor hat? Roughly. Did you guy it ? OR, did you just use the 18AVQ (10-80 M ) dimensions from those instructions ? Yep ...you've figured it out I have both, Carl Hibbard WD8NHK **Plan your next getaway with AOL Travel. Check out Today's Hot 5 Travel Deals! [drakelist] Antenna question
Hi all, For those with experience in regards to dipole and inverted v antennas. I do not have enough length available for an 80 M dipoleI do however have enough room to run to wires from our chimney into my back yard with about 92 ft one way and 95 ft plus at another angle. This would wind up being almost a horizontal V with about 80-90 ft between the ends. All the book learning says 60 to 120 degree anglesbut Yes I know try it Carl WD8NHK BTW I have probably got the only original never used T4 front panels (2) (unpunched) and a complete chassis and cabinet for same. This is just the sheet metal folks. Anyone interested ? **Gas prices getting you down? Search AOL Autos for fuel-efficient used cars. (http://autos.aol.com/used?ncid=aolaut000507)

[EMAIL PROTECTED] made an utterance to the drakelist gang -- Hi Carl, If you stretch it out as a dipole in the longest space avaliable, why not let the ends, about 15 ft each, droop down? The ends contribute much less to the radiation than does the center section. I've been doing this for yrs, in several locations. I suspect it's better than an inverted V, it keeps the more important center section at a higher elevation. YMMV 73, Al, W8UT [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi all, For those with experience in regards to dipole and inverted v antennas. Re: [drakelist] Antenna question
Buy or make 40 meter traps and use it on multiple bands. The traps will shorten the overall antenna length. 73, Gary
Re: [drakelist] Antenna question
For years I have used a trapped inverted Vee using Reyco 40M traps and a W2AU balun. Works great on 80M and 40M and will work other bands with a tuner. A good antenna. Also, no matter what they say, The G5RV at 102 feet long is a fine performer on 80, 40 and 20 for sure. Do not sell it short. I use one at 30' with a DX-60B and Drake R4A (mostly on 40 CW) and get consistently great reports. Tom S [EMAIL PROTECTED] made an utterence to the drakelist gang -- --- Thom R. Lacosta [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: or a loop around my roff (and perhaps extending to the neighbors? Thom, If your neighbor is amenable, go with the loop. You'll get much better overall performance. My house is only 25 feet on a side, and no outside antennas allowed. I ran the loop inside the attic from the eaves, up to the peak and back down again, then across the eaves and repeat the process at the other end of the house. The Droopy Loop on the ARRL web site is pretty much what I have, although mine is inside the attic. If you can, put yours outside on the roof. I've only got about 105 feet of wire, fed with about 10 feet of ladder line to a balun, then 25 feet of RG-8 to the MN-2000 tuner. Works great on 40 without the tuner, tunes up OK on 20 but is pretty finicky, tunes up OK on 15 and 10 as well. Use insulated wire; for reasons unbeknownst to me, when used in a closed loop it effectively adds quite a bit of length, electrically. Definitely feed it with ladder line, and if you can, use a true balanced antenna tuner. My next project is likely going to be one of these tuners, and running the ladder line all the way down through the wall to the shack. I get some pretty interesting RFI on 20 until I get it tuned up, after which it's pretty much gone. For 75 I've got a Hamstick dipole in the attic. Very finicky and *very* limited bandwidth, even with the tuner. I'm much happier with the loop; it doesn't tune up on 75, but it works great everywhere else. Tom WA8PYR __ Do you Yahoo!?
