hi,

Just wondering where I could find a compatible replacement for the keying
relay in the L4. I'd like to have a spare in case the one in there now
starts to suffer.

Jason -
A replacement is available from Newark or other P B relay
distributors. The P B number is KA-14DG-24 which means

KA = open frame construction
14 = 3PDT
D = DC coil
G = Silver-cadmium contacts, 10A @ 120 VAC
24 = 24V coil
Newark lists them for ~ $40, but I don't believe they stock them any more.
Using the specifications above, you might be able to find one for a lot
less from one of the surplus houses.

Drake enthusiasts,

A number of years ago I talked with Drake and they indicated that each relay is
individually calibrated/altered to ensure that the various contacts
opened/closed in the right sequence to avoid problems. Never got any more
rationale and can't venture an expert opinion on this one.

Hi Evan -
Just adjust the Cutoff Bias contact so that it closes a fraction AFTER
the RF In and Out contacts close. That's probably better, since the
cathodes of the 3-500Z's would be floating during the transition, so
no output while the RF In and Out were getting themselves sorted out.
On Break, it really doesn't matter, since the VOX delay drops after the
RF Input ceases. That's probably what Drake did.

Hmm, would be interesting to know what order and how much bend each
contact has...  rats.
