Valid VCO range on 855GME platform

Hello

I have a problem using a 1024x768@60Hz LVDS panel attached to a 855GME
based system running under Linux-2.6.39.

As long as the system is under VGA BIOS control, everything is fine
(panel refresh rate is 60.1Hz).

As soon as the i915 Linux driver is taking over control, the refresh
rate raises to 61.4Hz.

As far as i can see the i915 driver is (wrongly) reprogramming the Pipe
B PLL to a higher dot clock as shown below:

PLL values set up by VGA BIOS:
N=4, M1=18, M2=12, P1=1, P2=14
 => dot clock: 65.142 MHz, refresh rate: 60.1Hz

PLL values set up by i915 driver:
N=5, M1=22, M2=14, P1=1, P2=14
 => dot clock: 66.612MHz, refresh rate: 61.4Hz


According to "intel_PLL_is_valid()" the PLL values used by the VGA BIOS
are invalid because of a "vco out of range" condition.

Is the "I8XX_VCO_MIN" in "drivers/gpu/drm/i915/intel_display.c"
correctly set or should it be set to a lower value?

It's working fine here with current git on a 5670 (and have for some time).

Are you quite sure that you're using r600g? What version of Trine are you

Not that I know of (and I don't see any other way at least for 2.6.39.)
This is a shame, really, my revert patch should have been applied
several days ago already.

Keith, Chris, David, can you please get it rolling? This is a
regression presumably affecting a lot of users, we should really fix it
quickly, both in 2.6.39.x and 3.0-rc.

It's quite easy to have a game accidently pick up another driver if something
goes wrong. Have you made sure by setting LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose and checking
terminal output? You should get something like 

 libGL: OpenDriver: trying /path/to/r600_dri.so

no longer reproduce the TF2 hang, or the hangs in piglit with nopt.

test 9 - r600g vs r300g

The test-case for the game Amnesia, RenderFeatTest is still showing a couple of
glitches in a few tests. As far as I can tell, these are:

Test 9 "Refraction" - rendered a brigth yellow.
Test 11 "Water" - the water has a yellowish tint, possibly because of the
refraction issue?
Test 12 "Local Fog" - the blue fog in the right side of the picture is missing.

Valid VCO range on 855GME platform

Hello

I have a problem using a 1024x768@60Hz LVDS panel attached to a 855GME
based system running under Linux-2.6.39.

As long as the system is under VGA BIOS control, everything is fine
(panel refresh rate is 60.1Hz).

As soon as the i915 Linux driver is taking over control, the refresh
rate raises to 61.4Hz.

As far as i can see the i915 driver is (wrongly) reprogramming the Pipe
B PLL to a higher dot clock as shown below:

PLL values set up by VGA BIOS:
N=4, M1=18, M2=12, P1=1, P2=14
 => dot clock: 65.142 MHz, refresh rate: 60.1Hz

PLL values set up by i915 driver:
N=5, M1=22, M2=14, P1=1, P2=14
 => dot clock: 66.612MHz, refresh rate: 61.4Hz


According to "intel_PLL_is_valid()" the PLL values used by the VGA BIOS
are invalid because of a "vco out of range" condition.

Is the "I8XX_VCO_MIN" in "drivers/gpu/drm/i915/intel_display.c"
correctly set or should it be set to a lower value?

It's working fine here with current git on a 5670 (and have for some time).

Are you quite sure that you're using r600g? What version of Trine are you

Not that I know of (and I don't see any other way at least for 2.6.39.)
This is a shame, really, my revert patch should have been applied
several days ago already.

Keith, Chris, David, can you please get it rolling? This is a
regression presumably affecting a lot of users, we should really fix it
quickly, both in 2.6.39.x and 3.0-rc.

It's quite easy to have a game accidently pick up another driver if something
goes wrong. Have you made sure by setting LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose and checking
terminal output? You should get something like 

 libGL: OpenDriver: trying /path/to/r600_dri.so

test 9 - r600g vs r300g

The test-case for the game Amnesia, RenderFeatTest is still showing a couple of
glitches in a few tests. As far as I can tell, these are:

Test 9 "Refraction" - rendered a brigth yellow.
Test 11 "Water" - the water has a yellowish tint, possibly because of the
refraction issue?
Test 12 "Local Fog" - the blue fog in the right side of the picture is missing.

Valid VCO range on 855GME platform

Hello

I have a problem using a 1024x768@60Hz LVDS panel attached to a 855GME
based system running under Linux-2.6.39.

As long as the system is under VGA BIOS control, everything is fine
(panel refresh rate is 60.1Hz).

As soon as the i915 Linux driver is taking over control, the refresh
rate raises to 61.4Hz.

As far as i can see the i915 driver is (wrongly) reprogramming the Pipe
B PLL to a higher dot clock as shown below:

PLL values set up by VGA BIOS:
N=4, M1=18, M2=12, P1=1, P2=14
 => dot clock: 65.142 MHz, refresh rate: 60.1Hz

PLL values set up by i915 driver:
N=5, M1=22, M2=14, P1=1, P2=14
 => dot clock: 66.612MHz, refresh rate: 61.4Hz


According to "intel_PLL_is_valid()" the PLL values used by the VGA BIOS
are invalid because of a "vco out of range" condition.

Is the "I8XX_VCO_MIN" in "drivers/gpu/drm/i915/intel_display.c"
correctly set or should it be set to a lower value?

It's working fine here with current git on a 5670 (and have for some time).

Are you quite sure that you're using r600g? What version of Trine are you
running?

Not that I know of (and I don't see any other way at least for 2.6.39.)
This is a shame, really, my revert patch should have been applied
several days ago already.

Keith, Chris, David, can you please get it rolling? This is a
regression presumably affecting a lot of users, we should really fix it
quickly, both in 2.6.39.x and 3.0-rc.

It's quite easy to have a game accidently pick up another driver if something
goes wrong. Have you made sure by setting LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose and checking
terminal output? You should get something like 

 libGL: OpenDriver: trying /path/to/r600_dri.so

test 9 - r600g vs r300g

The test-case for the game Amnesia, RenderFeatTest is still showing a couple of
glitches in a few tests. As far as I can tell, these are:

Test 9 "Refraction" - rendered a brigth yellow.
Test 11 "Water" - the water has a yellowish tint, possibly because of the
refraction issue?
Test 12 "Local Fog" - the blue fog in the right side of the picture is missing.

Valid VCO range on 855GME platform

Hello

I have a problem using a 1024x768@60Hz LVDS panel attached to a 855GME
based system running under Linux-2.6.39.

As long as the system is under VGA BIOS control, everything is fine
(panel refresh rate is 60.1Hz).

As soon as the i915 Linux driver is taking over control, the refresh
rate raises to 61.4Hz.

As far as i can see the i915 driver is (wrongly) reprogramming the Pipe
B PLL to a higher dot clock as shown below:

PLL values set up by VGA BIOS:
N=4, M1=18, M2=12, P1=1, P2=14
 => dot clock: 65.142 MHz, refresh rate: 60.1Hz

PLL values set up by i915 driver:
N=5, M1=22, M2=14, P1=1, P2=14
 => dot clock: 66.612MHz, refresh rate: 61.4Hz


According to "intel_PLL_is_valid()" the PLL values used by the VGA BIOS
are invalid because of a "vco out of range" condition.

Is the "I8XX_VCO_MIN" in "drivers/gpu/drm/i915/intel_display.c"
correctly set or should it be set to a lower value?

with all graphics settings to minimum.

It's working fine here with current git on a 5670 (and have for some time).

Are you quite sure that you're using r600g? What version of Trine are you
running?

Not that I know of (and I don't see any other way at least for 2.6.39.)
This is a shame, really, my revert patch should have been applied
several days ago already.

Keith, Chris, David, can you please get it rolling? This is a
regression presumably affecting a lot of users, we should really fix it
quickly, both in 2.6.39.x and 3.0-rc.

It's quite easy to have a game accidently pick up another driver if something
goes wrong. Have you made sure by setting LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose and checking
terminal output? You should get something like 

 libGL: OpenDriver: trying /path/to/r600_dri.so

test 9 - r600g vs r300g

The test-case for the game Amnesia, RenderFeatTest is still showing a couple of
glitches in a few tests. As far as I can tell, these are:

Test 9 "Refraction" - rendered a brigth yellow.
Test 11 "Water" - the water has a yellowish tint, possibly because of the
refraction issue?
Test 12 "Local Fog" - the blue fog in the right side of the picture is missing.

Hello

I have a problem using a 1024x768@60Hz LVDS panel attached to a 855GME
based system running under Linux-2.6.39.

As long as the system is under VGA BIOS control, everything is fine
(panel refresh rate is 60.1Hz).

As soon as the i915 Linux driver is taking over control, the refresh
rate raises to 61.4Hz.

As far as i can see the i915 driver is (wrongly) reprogramming the Pipe
B PLL to a higher dot clock as shown below:

PLL values set up by VGA BIOS:
N=4, M1=18, M2=12, P1=1, P2=14
 => dot clock: 65.142 MHz, refresh rate: 60.1Hz

PLL values set up by i915 driver:
N=5, M1=22, M2=14, P1=1, P2=14
 => dot clock: 66.612MHz, refresh rate: 61.4Hz


According to "intel_PLL_is_valid()" the PLL values used by the VGA BIOS
are invalid because of a "vco out of range" condition.

Is the "I8XX_VCO_MIN" in "drivers/gpu/drm/i915/intel_display.c"
correctly set or should it be set to a lower value?

The Game "Trine" (from HumbleBundle 3) does not run with the r600g driver, even
with all graphics settings to minimum.

Message displayed:

It's working fine here with current git on a 5670 (and have for some time).

Are you quite sure that you're using r600g? What version of Trine are you
running?
