I saw similar problems that were the result of building xorg-server against
another mesa-version than the one installed.

The screen corruption picture looks slightly familiar. I also get some
red lines/pixels at the top of the screen when I switch to a console and
back again. After a few seconds the screen is ok again.

That's bug 7595. This one might be a duplicate; could everybody make sure
they're using the DRM from kernel >= 2.6.19 (where the fix was integrated) or
from git. If it still happens with that, please add some debugging output that
shows what the offending offset is and why it gets rejected.

Hi,

I'm using debian/sid, currently with Xorg 7.1, ati 6.6.3, kernel 2.6.18, libdrm
2.0.2, mesa 6.5.1. DRI is enabled, I'm using compiz on a radon 9600 XT. The big
problem is that there are random lockups - complete lockups, like not even ping
is working, nothing in the logs after reboot. Looks like the PCI bus is hosed,
but I'm not an expert.

Here is an excerpt of my config file:

Could you disable page flip, render accel, attach your xorg log,
and try enabling debug output of radeon & drm module (you should
mount your log partition with sync option to have somethings
usable).

Hi,

2.0.2, mesa 6.5.1. DRI is enabled, I'm using compiz on a radon 9600 XT. There
are rendering problems all over the place:
- xcreensaver doesn't work at all: even when I launch the settings
and press "preview", I only have a black screen (GL or X11 hacks).
- totem-gstreamer can't play fullscreen if using Xv: the window
seems to not be refreshed correctly, so it's not painted with the
overlay color, so the video displays only partially or not at all.
- eog doesn't work well fullscreen (displays only partially, looks
like the same problem as totem).
- evince and epiphany sometimes flicker a lot when fullscreen.

These problems disappear when I replace compiz with e.g. metacity.

This might be at least partly fixed in xserver and xf86-video-ati git, which
together draw the colour key directly into the specific drawable instead of
always on the root window, which interacts badly with compositing managers.

Does not enabling either of these make any difference?

I am using direct rendering. In fact, the program refuses to start if direct
rendering is not available.
If direct rendering was not available it would cause the program to terminate
somewhere about the time the crash occurs.

radeon debug=1 would be more helpfull (my fault). no need to restart
you could stop xserver, rmmod radeon and modprobe radeon debug=1
don't forget to mount the partition where you log file are with sync
option.

Did you try with disabling pageflip, &/or colortilling ?

I think I already tried various combinations of various configs (BTW, AGP x8
with writecache lockups right at start), but I'll try that specifically when I
get back home.

Guys, no need to even reload the kernel module to enable debugging output...
That's what /sys/module/drm/parameters/debug is for.
