(In reply to comment #19)
So is there any known working situation? What do you mean by updating to
 GEM?

Moving to mesa-7.2, and libdrm-2.4.5, which contain code for GEM. In other
words, where it used to say Failed to initialize TTM. Falling back to
classic, it then said Failed to intitialize GEM. Falling back to classic.

Known working situation, as in, does it work at all with 2.6.28.x. No, this
machine will not work that way. The machine in question simply will not work
properly under X with a .28 kernel. It is currently working with 2.6.27.19.

[Bug 20672] New: Sync to vblank does not work on X1300 Mobility

2009-03-15 Thread bugzilla-daemon
http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=20672

Summary: Sync to vblank does not work on X1300 Mobility
   Product: Mesa
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: x86 (IA32)
OS/Version: Linux (All)
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Drivers/DRI/Radeon
AssignedTo: dri-devel@lists.sourceforge.net
ReportedBy: cnspe...@physik.uni-wuerzburg.de

When I enable any vsync mode in driconf, glxgears takes some seconds to display
anything besides a black window, then garbage, and after that, it renders
correctly with a very slow framerate (1 fps). Other 3D applications display
the same behaviour. If I enable interrupts instead of sleeps, I additionally
get the following message:

do_wait: drmWaitVBlank returned -1

This is mesa 7.3 (there was no option for that one above, so I set
unspecified). I am using xorg-server 1.5.3 on gentoo together with the radeon
driver 6.12.0. The machine is a thinkpad T60/Core duo (no Core2, so 32 bit)
with a X1300 mobility radeon.

I have attached xorg.conf and Xorg.0.log; please tell me if you need any
further info.

Thanks, so both cgroups (and therefore config_user_sched) and user namespaces
are turned off. Meaning put_user_ns(), which is the only thing moved in this
commit, is an empty static inline function. Suspicious :)

Sorry I had missed the fact that you'd appended strace output last night.
Could you also upload the result of a successful strace?

thanks,

 Hi,

I tested several snapshots post 2.6.28 and all of them show one severe
problem: resume from disk is not always successful. Only about 50% of the
resume attempts work, in the other cases I just get a completely black
screen, can't switch to text console or anything. What I often get is a
line like this in the logs directly before suspend:

[drm:i915_get_vblank_counter] *ERROR* trying to get vblank count for
 disabled pipe 0

Afterwards I find nothing in the logs. Switching back to 2.6.28 and
everything works fine again. I have a Toshiba A110-178 running openSuSE
11.1 32 bit with KDE 4.2.0. I upgraded my Xserver from 1.5 to 1.6 yesterday
but that did not change anything. The only external module I use is the
omnibook module (http://sf.net/projects/omnibook) which I've been using for
 years without any problems.

The problem still exists in -rc8

Its a bug in userspace we can't do anything about at this point,

The problem is we attach some information to the device inode and if
you starting using an alternate inode it screws up, I think Thomas had
 suggested ways aruond this.
We could probably make it a WARN_ON and fail DRI setup.

Yes, that's what I'd expect. At least not allow it to hang the primairy X
session. I understand that you cannot magically make DRI work in this
situation.

Note that I did start X.Org successfully in the chroot a bit earlier when
I did have /dev/ bind mounted to /mychroot/dev/.

btw, I can easily reproduce this. i just initiate compiz's shift switcher and
and quickly cycle through windows (i.e. hold down arrow key). results in this
crash quickly.

strace output for good 2.6.29-rc4-wl (wireless testing)

This may be a bit different since I upgraded to libdrm-2.4.5 and ~-intel-2.6.3
...

Which btw brings up only black screen on UXA when starting X
[drm:i915_setparam] *ERROR* unknown parameter 4
[drm:i915_getparam] *ERROR* Unknown parameter 6
[drm:i915_getparam] *ERROR* Unknown parameter 6

Probably irrelevant, ask if you want matching strace on broken revision.

[PATCH] Fix mmap handle

2009-03-15 Thread Robert Noland
From 340b563375e001e87a504973581ab48d399ff64b Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001
From: Robert Noland rnol...@2hip.net
Date: Sun, 15 Mar 2009 13:52:58 -0500
Subject: [PATCH] libdrm_nouveau: The handle that is passed to mmap needs to be
drm_handle_t

drm_handle_t is defined to be a u32 on linux and a u64 on everything
else. This addresses an issue on FreeBSD amd64 where the map offsets
may be greater than 32bits. When the handle is cast to 32bit, mmap
cannot match the requested map and causes X to crash.

This should be a NOOP on linux since drm_handle_t is always 32bit.

Yeah, please do give a new bad strace output. I don't know about x to know
which differences are relevant. Based on what I'm seeing so far, though, it
looks as though the key lines would be:

3491 open(/dev/agpgart, O_RDWR) = 10
3491 ioctl(10, AGPIOC_ACQUIRE or APM_IOC_STANDBY, 0) = -1 EBUSY (Device or
resource busy)

According to drivers/char/agp/frontend.c this means that
agp_fe.current_controller is already set or agp_bridge-agp_in_use is not 0.
Is X already running on some other console when it fails???

--- Comment #13 from se...@hallyn.com 2009-03-15 14:04 ---
Right. AGPIOC_INFO returns -EINVAL only if agp_fe.current_controller==NULL.
AGPIOC_ACQUIRE returns -EBUSY only if agp_fe.current_controller!=NULL or
agp_bridge-agp_in_use!=0.  So agp_in_use is not 0.

We need someone who knows about X and agp to tell us under what conditions that
can happen. I don't know who that is.

One more question - does the 'No AGP bridge found' early in dmesg also show up
when you boot with a kernel that works?

 Thanks for the update.

If you have DRI enabled in the X config, please try to disable it and see if
 that makes a difference.

here, you probably need a reboot to unload the drm/i915 driver. :)

can reproduce the hang even with 1x with dosbox if I tell it to use opengl at a
resolution of 1600x1200 in fullscreen.

first causes dosbox to chew up all cpu. then if dosbox is killed Xorg chews up
all cpu (and is unkillable, just stuck in R state, never getting the kill -9)
