Dave, is there something we can go here which is a bit more user-friendly
than just hanging up?

How come Debian manages to print that message and we don't?

Is this still happening in current kernels?

Some people have found that X is stable if you do NOT have the radeon fbdev
driver loaded. Did you have it loaded? If so, can you try that?

Also, increasing the AGP window size in BIOS might help, if that's possible.

I've revisited this. Although a few things have changed since I last tested,
including updated (from Fedora Core 6 updates) libdrm, Mesa,
xorg-x11-server-Xorg, xorg-x11-drv-ati, the kernel and my card has gone from a
9200 SE to a 9200 PRO. Unfortunately I can't remember exactly when I last tested
and which of the above components would have been in use.

The good news is that the current setup (with the AGP aperture size at 64MB, the
same as before), seems to be stable. AGP/DRI/Compiz, the 2.6.20-rc6 kernel
seemed OK and am currently testing the 2.6.19-1.2895.fc6 Fedora kernel (as
that's what most of the workstations are using around here).

I've encountered the same issue as the original bug reporter. I'm using 2.6.18.3
with a Radeon 9800 card. I get the error whenever I use live tv or play a
recording via mythfrontend. I was previously using 2.6.10 with the same
hardware/software and did not encounter this error. Removing the radeon kernel
module makes the error go away but also takes away my hardware acceleration,
etc. Here's the oops, please let me know if I can provide more information:

[Bug 7847] Radeon 9200 DRI driver IRQ, but no-one cared

2007-01-18 Thread bugme-daemon
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7847

--- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2007-01-18 01:07 ---
It's possible that this bug happened because I had a device plugged into the
UHCI root hub that was sharing its IRQ with the Radeon 9200. It's not as if I
haven't played WoW for many hours before. (But I'm sure that it was a USB 2.0
device, so shouldn't that have been triggering the EHCI IRQ instead?)

Could there be a race condition in the IRQ handling?

The DRI modules that I am using with 2.6.18.6 are from the DRI CVS repository,
with VAP state and integer overflow in FB location patches applied. In other
words, the DRI modules are closer to those in 2.6.19. The native 2.6.18.6
modules don't work at all, but that's a known issue.

Software Environment:
Playing WoW using Wine 0.9.29-CVS, Mesa 6.5.2

Problem Description:
Was happily playing WoW, when suddenly the LCD monitor went dead. I found this

[Bug 7767] New: No hardware rendering for SuperSavage/IXC 64 and Xorg 7.2 RC3

2007-01-04 Thread bugme-daemon
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7767

Summary: No hardware rendering for SuperSavage/IXC 64 and Xorg
7.2 RC3
Kernel Version: 2.6.20-rc3-git3
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
 Owner: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
 Submitter: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Most recent kernel where this bug did *NOT* occur: none
Distribution: Fedora Core [Development]
Hardware Environment: IBM ThinkPad T23
Software Environment: n/a
Problem Description: Obsolete kernel DRM modules in kernel 2.6.20-rc3-git3
inhibit hardware rendering for SuperSavage/IXC 64. For the new upstream
version 2.1.12 of the savage driver in Xorg 7.2 RC3, glxinfo reports:

libGL error: drmMap of framebuffer failed (Invalid argument)
libGL error: reverting to (slow) indirect rendering

This error was absent for driver version 2.1.11.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Install savage driver version 2.1.12.
2. Restart X.
3. Log in to X session and execute glxinfo.

Additional comment: After compiling the latest drm.ko and savage.ko from
[http://anongit.freedesktop.org/git/mesa/drm] and loading them prior to starting
the X server, hardware rendering is back and working as before.

If this still happens with recent releases of X.org and Mesa, it might be better
reporting a bug against Mesa at http://bugs.freedesktop.org with at least full X
config file, X log file and kernel output.

[Bug 4607] Crashes after resume with Savage DRI

2006-11-18 Thread bugme-daemon

--- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2006-11-18 12:39 ---
It seems like I can avoid the crashes with Option BusType PCI alone. Using
Option DmaMode None alone helps for glxgears, but crashes with other 3D
screensavers.

[Bug 7273] X lockups when X is using AGP.

2006-10-26 Thread bugme-daemon
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7273

--- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2006-10-26 07:04 ---
The debian 2.6.18 kernel gave me a nice message yesterday stating that the AGP
aperture was too small. So, I went into the BIOS and made the aperture 64MB. X
now works with DRI over AGP. Yay.

It's only a warning, not an error.

And it doesn't make sense to open bugs for every single compile warning in the
kernel.

Is this bug fixed? shouldn't it be closed?

Boris, in your setup the video card is not sharing the irq with the ide device
and you are using a nvidia binary module aswell, it looks different from this
bug. If the problem persist (without the nvidia driver loaded) using the latest
stable kernel, report this issue in a new bug

This occurs both with a patched and a vanilla 2.6.18-rc2.

And something else: If I don't load the glx module (comment it in xorg.conf),
the oops does not occur any longer.

By the way, I hit 'Edit' on the 'gathering info patch' out of curiosity, but
didn't (mean to) modify it. Now it shows as edited.

I had to clean up the patch from things like ^[1;36m before I could apply it.
Did you make a mistake when submitting it did I when downloading it?

[Bug 6893] New: kernel oops with radeon and mythfrontend

2006-07-24 Thread bugme-daemon
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6893

Summary: kernel oops with radeon and mythfrontend
Kernel Version: 2.6.18-rc2
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
 Owner: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
 Submitter: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Most recent kernel where this bug did not occur: 2.6.15.5
Distribution: debian
Hardware Environment: IBM Thinkpad R50, ATI Radeon Mobility 9000 M9, Wideview
DVB-T USB
Software Environment: mythtv 0.19-0.10, xorg 7.0.22
Problem Description:

I am getting the kernel oops shown below, when trying to watch live-TV
or recordings with mythfrontend. I tried with different pre-compiled mythtv
binaries on a debian linux (0.19-0.6sarge1, 0.19-0.7 and 0.19-0.10), with
vanilla kernels 2.6.17.4 and 2.6.18-rc2.
The oops doesn't occur with a 2.6.15.5 kernel.

[Bug 6870] New: kernel-2.6.17 on a P-IV locks up the machine: problem with 'drm:i830'

2006-07-19 Thread bugme-daemon
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6870

Summary: kernel-2.6.17 on a P-IV locks up the machine: problem
with
Kernel Version: 2.6.17
Status: NEW
  Severity: high
 Owner: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
 Submitter: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Most recent kernel where this bug did not occur:
Distribution: Debian Release: 3.1
Hardware Environment: Pentium-IV with Intel 865G Integrated graphics
Software Environment: i686 linux, XFree86--Debian 4.3.0.dfsg.1-14sarge1
Problem Description: While running stellarium 0.8.0-2 compiled from
Debian/Testing source in the 1280x1024 resolution, the system almost entirely
locks up after a while of using it. The mouse Cursor vanishes. Standard
keystrokes like 'ctrl-alt-backspace' or 'ctrl-alt-F1' to reach Console
fails. However 'SYSrq' keys works, and the 'Powerbutton' can also signal
'init' to make a clean shutdown.

he reason of the problem appears to be what I find in the kernel log.

I have seen the same problem happening with kernel-2.6.16.1 which I compiled
after downloading from 'kernel.org'.

o.k. next freeze (again under enemy territory), this time without DynamicClocks.

I will file a bug at freedesktop.org, but IĀ“m afraid without any more
information the problem cannot be solved easily :(

This is most likely an issue with the OpenGL driver, or possibly the X driver.
Please check the Mesa and xorg products at http://bugs.freedesktop.org and file
a new bug there in the unlikely event that there is none about this yet. Attach
full X config and log files there, and try running in depth 16 and not enabling
Option DynamicClocks if you haven't yet.

Michel:

Thanks for your help. :)

I started with the bugtracker mentioned (strangely searching for bugtracker
xorg with google did not give any links to this). There are quite a lot bugs in
there that report freezes or lockup on Radeon HW. However, I am still not sure
if one of them resembles my case or not.

Before filing a new bug, I thought it's best to try a newer verion of the DRI
driver. I was still using the one from debian unstable (050528 !), but didn't
know how to get a newer one. I now found the download address in one of the bug
reports.

I tried to install the binary builds from 060403. However, the install script
does not find the correct directories on a debian system. Fortunately, a newer
version of libgl1-mesa-dri featuring the 060327 driver appeared just yesterday
in debian alioth (experimental).

So now I have installed this DRI driver. Nearly all works so far (only the game
chromium refuses to run). I will now see, whether the freeze still occurs (may
take some time...).

BTW. I am running on 16 bit always. But I do use DynamicClocks in order to save
energy on my laptop. If the newer driver does not prevent another freeze, I will
disable the dynamicclocks next. If this doesn't help either, I will file a new
bug report.

I have to admit I was quite disappointed to see that there is nowhere a method
described to get more debug info in order to find the culprit of such freezes.
It's awful to see how many people have some kind of freeze and no way to find
out whatĀ“s causing it...

Thanks for your help and all the work you put into this driver!!!

Michael

Well, o.k. The new driver does not help. Just tried Enemy Territory and after 5
minutes the system froze again.

Now I will try disabling dynamicclocks (after already having disabled FastWrites
and going back to AGP Mode 1x).

Michael

Btw. there is no message related to the crash in either dmesg (only starts with
the reboot), syslog, messages, kernlog or xorg.0.log

Dmesg is a bit late for the last freeze as the ring buffer has run out already.
I still attach the output, but the first message is already after the restart of
the system.

I also attach /var/log/syslog and /var/log/messages and kern.log from the time
of the crash. However, as I have written above, there is (at leat to my eyes) no
relevant message in it. I always check syslog, messages and kern.log directly
after such a crash and it always seems that the crash is instantaneous. No time
for the kernel to write any relevant message.

ThatĀ“s why I asked if there is einer a method to increase kernel syslog messages
(some kind of debug modus) or some other method to identify the culprit that
freezes the system.

According to syslog messages the last freeze occured yesterday between 13:48 and
13:58 (I was having lunch). When I came back, I saw the screensaver frozen with
one dia (itĀ“s an opengl dia show). My reboot was at 14:28.

Such a freeze is typical. Sometimes I have this kind fo freeze in an opengl
game. In this case the system sound very briefly stutters, then fails and the
computer is frozen. (DonĀ“t know if this helps...)

Very grateful for any help to identify and finally remedy the problem. (ItĀ“s
awful to always have these freezes and thus sometimes data loss!)

Thanks,

Michael

P.S.: Next freeze, I will take a dmesg output directly, but 1.) I donĀ“t know
when this will be (in 1 hour or in a week) and 2.) IĀ“m afraid there wonĀ“t be any
more details in it than before.

[Bug 6626] New: Infrequent system freezes when using OpenGL on ATI radeon driver r100

2006-05-30 Thread bugme-daemon
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6626

Summary: Infrequent system freezes when using OpenGL on ATI
radeon driver r100
Kernel Version: 2.6.16
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
 Owner: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
 Submitter: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Most recent kernel where this bug did not occur:
Distribution: Kanotix
Hardware Environment: IBM Thinkpad X31, ATI Mobility M6
Software Environment: Debian unstable
Problem Description:

First of all: IĀ“m sorry that I donĀ“t have very closely identified the problem so
far. Unfortunately, I havenĀ“t got much help elsewhere. In my last bug report
here, I was given help very fast, so I just try with this much more complicated
one...

So, the problem is simply that the computer system freezes completely in
irregular time intervals. The whole system freezes and is no longer responsive
to anything. BIOS still responds (at least I got sound signals when plugging in
or out the ac adaptor). No network either, screen just freezes, too.

The RAM has been checked thoroughly with memtest for more than 12 hours - no
problem.

The freezes are totally infrequent and occur on average once or twice per week.
Sometimes the system has been running for only a few minutes, somtimes for days.

There are no system messages related to the freeze. It just happens - thatĀ“s
why I suspect a kernel driver.

The only commonality I have found so far, is that all crashes seem to appear
when an OpenGL application is running (e.g. screensaver). So I might suspect the
ATI radeon driver. Here is some data:

xserver-xorg-video-ati 6.5.8.0-1
xserver-xorg 7.0.19

OpenGL vendor string: Tungsten Graphics, Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI Radeon 20050528 AGP 1x NO-TCL
OpenGL version string: 1.2 Mesa 6.4.1

And here the xorg conf part:

Section Device
Identifier ATI
Driver radeon
VendorName IBM Thinkpad
BoardName ATI Radeon Mobility M6
Option EnablePageFlip on
Option AGPFastWrite no
Option DynamicClocks on
Option BIOSHotkeys on
Option MetaModes 1024x768 1024x768-1280x1024 1280x1024
BusID PCI:1:0:0
Option sw_cursor off
EndSection

Now I know that this is not much info, not even sure that itĀ“s really the video
driver. So my main question is: How can I identify the problem cause? Is there
any possibility to get more debug info? How do you normally identify the
component responsible for such an infrequent crash?

Thanks for any help!!

Michael

P.S.: BTW, I havenĀ“t even found a specific xorg bugtracker...

It's telling you what to do, use the 1915 module. So do not compile the i830

that.

are you building your own kernels? if so then you are using the wrong DRM driver
more than likely... you have the i830 driver loaded when it should be the i915,
this doesn't happen if you use distro kernels or read the DRM module help in
Kconfig..

Looks like something acquired agp but did not release it (drm?) which caused
intelfb to fail.

You can try these:

1. Make sure that intelfb gets loaded first (ie by compiling intelfb statically
and DRM as a module).

2. Disable acceleration in intelfb (video=intelfb:accel=0 or modprobe intelfb
accel=0)

[Bug 6082] when making use of the drm r300 module al the devices that share the same interrupt stop working

2006-02-17 Thread bugme-daemon
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6082

--- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2006-02-17 02:55 ---
Created an attachment (id=7381)
 -- (http://bugzilla.kernel.org/attachment.cgi?id=7381action=view)
patch to invoke pci_enable_device() when using old PCI detect

If pci=routeirq helps, this means that the driver did not call
pci_enable_device(), and is therefore using a bogus IRQ number (recent kernels
perform IRQ routing in pci_enable_device(), and pdev-irq does not have the
correct value until that function is called).

The drm core currently does not call pci_enable_device() when a framebuffer
driver (including vesafb) is active. If a proper framebuffer driver (e.g.,
radeonfb) is used, drm still works fine, because the framebuffer driver calls
pci_enable_device() itself, and drm gets proper pdev-irq. However, when drm
is used together with vesafb, pci_enable_device() is not performed, and the IRQ
problem shows up.

This patch makes the drm core call pci_enable_device() even if a framebuffer
driver was loaded before; this fixes the IRQ problem.

---

drm: fix IRQ problem when used together with vesafb

Even if drm uses old PCI probing (because a framebuffer driver is active), it
still needs to call pci_enable_device() to get correct IRQ.

sorry i made a mistake, it is the wired interface the one that doesn't work.
Actually it seems that everything that is sharing the same interrupt is not
working (the sound doesn't work either).

I'm chaging the summary of the bug to indicate this.

that this drm version is not being pushed into the main kernel tree. Thanks
anyway for the links.

--- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2005-12-30 02:26 ---
I have found out that not the very update to DRM version 1.0.1 keeps
Mesa from segfaulting. As a matter of fact, what made the difference
for me was loading the savage.ko module explicitly. Appending
modprobe savage to rc.sysinit makes it impossible for me to reproduce
the segmentation faults reported earlier. Before, I loaded the compiled
savage.ko built from current DRI snapshots and corresponding to
DRM version 1.0.1 via insmod.
However, even loading the original kernel module delivered as part of
kernel 2.6.14-1.1653_FC4 and corresponding to DRM version 1.0.0 makes
the reported behaviour disappear.
When you tried out the new DRM version, did you load the module
by hand via insmod or did you copy it to
/lib/modules/`uname -r`/kernel/drivers/char/drm?
As pointed out above, even the current module works. At least when you
modprobe it in rc.sysinit as I did. Setting the status to RESOLVED
PATCH_ALREADY_AVAILABLE is hence a bit premature because after updating
the kernel DRM, one might still encounter the reported problem.

Essentially the same problem occurs after bootig from a Ubuntu 6.04
alpha Live CD. The (modular) X server release is 7.0.0 RC4. The bug is
thus not Red Hat specific. I have been able to trigger one segmentation
fault aborting the X session. Most of the time however, the glxgears
window simply remains black. After a couple of seconds, glxgears
aborts. There is an error message in dmesg:

  [4295522.874000] [drm:savage_bci_wait_event_shadow] *ERROR* failed!

which points a the origin of the trouble.

[Bug 5784] savage DRI: kernel oops when running glxgears in second X.org session

2005-12-30 Thread bugme-daemon
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5784

--- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2005-12-30 05:08 ---
After rebuilding drm.ko and savage.ko from the current DRI
snapshot savage-20051220-linux.i386.tar.bz2 and pushing the
kernel modules into /lib/modules/`uname -r`/kernel/drivers/char/drm,
I am not able to reproduce kernel oopses or segmentation faults
as before. This seems to indicate that a corresponding kernel tree
update might actually resolve the issue.
In contrast with previous cases, I have spotted an aditional entry
in /var/log/dmesg which reads:

[drm] Used old pci detect: framebuffer loaded

Hopefully, integration of the dri.freedesktop.org branch into the
kernel tree and subsequent modifications won't alter the status quo.

[Bug 5784] New: savage DRI: kernel oops when running glxgears in second X.org session

2005-12-27 Thread bugme-daemon
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5784

Summary: savage DRI: kernel oops when running glxgears in second
X.org session
Kernel Version: 2.6.15-rc6
Status: NEW
  Severity: high
 Owner: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
 Submitter: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Distribution:
Fedora Core 4

Machine has a ProSavage chipset on-board. The output of the corresponding
devices
by /sbin/lspci is:

00:01.0 PCI bridge: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT8633 [Apollo Pro266 AGP]
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: S3 Inc. VT8375 [ProSavage8 KM266/KL266]

Test program is glxgears, built from patched X.org CVS with savage DRM support.
Execution of glxgears in first X session runs OK. If the first X session is
terminated (for any reason), and a second one is started, execution of the same
program, glxgears (or any OpenGL client) systematically crashes with a
segmentation
fault.

When output of dmesg is examined, the following shows up in the kernel log:

Unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address 00010001

[Bug 5641] New: Xinerama blocks chipset and GLX fails on Asus M2400N/Centrino/855GM

2005-11-23 Thread bugme-daemon
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5641

Summary: Xinerama blocks chipset and GLX fails on Asus
M2400N/Centrino/855GM
Kernel Version: 2.6.14.2
Status: NEW
  Severity: high
 Owner: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
 Submitter: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Most recent kernel where this bug did not occur: 2.6.13.1
Distribution: Using Vanilla kernel, not stack. (ArchLinux)
Hardware Environment: Asus M2400N, Centrino, Intel 855GM
Software Environment: Linux/X.org/KDE

Problem Description:
GLX seems to be buggy. glxgears work flawlessly. glxinfo says direct rendering
is on. However, OpenGL screensavers and apps either fail immediately, or produce
a strange output, using only the upper part of the screen. Some of them
segmentation faulted soon afterwards.

Xinerama does not work any more. The double-headed layout cannot be used any
more. An attempt to load X with double-headed layout results in blocking the
chipset and the machine has to be rebooted to make X work again.

Steps to reproduce:
Launch X with KDE or Gnome and try some GL screensavers like Euphoria. Try
startx with a double-headed layout or Xinerama turned on.

[Bug 2754] ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility M6 LY in DRM/DRI mode locks up if CPU frequency changes on battery power

It looks like this only occurs with the Radeon in 1x mode while doing FID/VID
changes. Both 2x and 4x modes will lockup the system during a FID/VID but 1x
mode will not. To make it work for even 1x AGP mode, enable CONFIG_I2C,
CONFIG_I2C_ALGOBIT, CONFIG_I2C_ALI1535 as compiled in options. I've tested this
with using both the ondemand governor and forcing a FID/VID by setting the
P-state in /proc/acpi/cpu/CPU#/performance. I'm still not sure why having the
AGP clock at 2x or 4x locks up though.
