can you try again with a more recent version of the drivers and re-open if you
still have the same issue?

Can you give more information about what you mean by crash ?
 The server lockup ?

Yes, the keyboard is dead, mouse cursor is still moving, anything on the screen
is frozen, kernel is running (computer is still accessible from the network).

Is there a backtrace (check your xorg log).

Nothing appears in the xorg log after that crash.

Also give more information on which xserver and ati driver
 you are using.

Also don't use option AGPFastWrite it's know to be boggus on

OK, I have disabled it. Did not yet try all programs but blender still becomes
mad with lot of random lines on the screen. Though it does not crash the X
server... MESA indirect works well with blender but of course very slow.

For flightgear some game got trouble by opening opengl with
dlpen. Try running the game with:
 LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libGL.so flightgear
 (or path to your libGL).

It does not help...

In addition to report regarding poor FPS (248.744 FPS in glxgears), a can
mention some bugs... This message was posted to FedoraForum: http://
forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=118592

It seems (I may be wrong, of course) that DRI driver for ATI IGP320M chipset
has some bugs... Is there place where I can ask for help? There are few
problems, I will list them in my priority order:

1. X server often crashes when running BRLCAD (CAD freeware). Other OpenGL
programs can also crash server to the point that keyboard is locked. Kernel is
still running and reboot is possible when I log in from the network.

2. GoogleEarth window is fast but flickering when X server is in 16bpp mode. OK
but a little bit slow when in 24bpp mode, however, GoogleEarth requires some
trick (see attachment GEbeta4fix.tar.gz).

3. FlightGear runs slow (like no hardware acceleration) with X server in 24bpp
mode, much faster in 16bpp mode.

I've been insanely busy at work, and I'm sorry that I haven't replied sooner. I
actually completely forgot about this bug. I write code all day long, and after
staring at Bugzilla all day, it's no wonder my mind has completely forgotten
about this other Bugzila. ;-)

Anyhow...

* Yes, I did verify that DRI is enabled by running glxinfo.
* I don't have a drirc anywhere on this machine.
* I'm currently running Xorg-6.8.2-r2 from Gentoo (various patches)
* The IRQ is being shared, so this will probably be of no interest, but
/proc/interrupts looks like the following:

Guys, how do you verify that hardware acceleration is actually active? These
numbers certainly sound like it might not be. Good means for verification are

glxinfo | grep direct

or setting LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose for running any OpenGL application and checking
the stderr output for successful loading of the radeon_dri.so driver.

Do you have files /etc/drirc and/or ~/.drirc? If not, that's fine. If you have
one or both, what do they look like. The fps numbers sound like frame throttling
might be set to use usleep. Also, what output do you get from cat
/proc/interrupts?

I have a similar situation with ATI Radeon Mobility M7 LW (AGP) since
upgrading to suse9.2 (2.6.8-24.11 kernel and xorg 6.8.1-15) from suse8.2 (XFree
4.3).

glxgears currently gives 500 fps (with DRI reported as enabled) compared to
1300 with Xfree.

By 'downgrading' to Xfree86-4.4, I get 1300 fps.

(Effects on 'real' software I use are even greater with benchmarks running 5
times as fast under Xfree.)

I have a Mobility Radeon U1 (IGP320), with a mobile Athlon 1800+, and I also get
less than 200 fps with glxgears. This is definitely with Direct Rendering, and
kind of assumed the numbers were poor due to the fact that glxgears is just a
crappy benchmark. At the very least, bzflag, neverputt, and tuxracer are all
definitely hardware accelerated, and perform just fine.

Guys - I can answer some of the questions, but not others (the machine in
question is my main work machine for molecular graphics (currently running
XFree4.4) - I can't play with the Xserver too much).

(In reply to comment #2)
 glxinfo | grep direct
This always said 'direct rendering: Yes'. (Without dri I got max 260 fps, with
Xorg.6.8.1-15 acceleration it was up to 480 or so).

or setting LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose for running any OpenGL application and checking
the stderr output for successful loading of the radeon_dri.so driver.
Can't check this right now. I tried many XF86Config options and looked
everywhere I could (not LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose, though) and saw no evidence of any
trouble, other than less than optimal acceleration.

(In reply to comment #3)
Do you have files /etc/drirc and/or ~/.drirc? If not, that's fine.
No.
Also, what output do you get from cat /proc/interrupts?
Can't check currently.

(In reply to comment #4)
bzflag, neverputt, and tuxracer are all
definitely hardware accelerated, and perform just fine.
The only benchmarks other than glxgears were molecular graphics programs
(specifically 'coot' and 'pymol'). In these programs for specific tasks I
got/get (fps):
   xorg xfree
coot: 13 90
pymol: 12 28
I haven't tried turning off dri for comparison.
