The Xserver began to start, the console went black and the cursor into the upper left corner and stopped blinking. I had to access the machine through ssh to get the logs. I think it might be a conflict between the loaded nvidia framebuffer driver and nouveau. Did you try that? nvidia-fb and nouveau at the same time? I will try without nvidia framebuffer driver. -- Greetings Michael. - Take Surveys. Earn Cash. Try redirecting its stdout and stderr and looking at that. No, it didn't abort. It froze. Why do you think it aborted? Truncated X-log? That, and the kernel output mentioning lastclose. Note that I don't mean a 'traditional' server abort. When e.g. the dynamic loader hits an unresolved symbol, the X server process is terminated immediately, so it doesn't get a chance to even try and restore the console. So the symptoms of that can be very similar to a 'freeze'. The Xserver began to start, the console went black and the cursor into the upper left corner and stopped blinking. I had to access the machine through ssh to get the logs. Did the X server process still exist at that time? -- Earthling Michel Dänzer | http://tungstengraphics.com Libre software enthusiast | Debian, X and DRI developer - Take Surveys. Earn Cash.
