it happens on random times, usually, I use firefox and kdevelop 4. compositing
is disabled, but the problem still persists.

I haven't used jdownloader for quite a while, will try and report back.
is there any way to produce a better log? will enabling kernel debug will help?

running jdownloader for 5 minutes didn't crashed the system.
is there a way to rule out hardware problems?

I don't think this is hardware problem related, many ppl experience random
lock-ups. You may enable drm debug option (15 value maybe?) and watch results
using netconsole but you'd get much much noise as you don't have reliable way
of reproducing.

Recently I got some crazy lock up and even asked about possible VRAM problem.
If you have broken RAM you won't get normal desktop for most of time. So if
your desktop is generally OK, that really shouldn't be VRAM issue.

Yes tried the patch and it's not better. With 2.6.33-rc1 the same.. Had to go
back to reverting the 2 mentioned commit :

my desktop is ok usually, I'm running gentoo, seems that using the patched
gentoo-sources cause the problem in bigger occurrence then the official kernel,
currently I'm running the official kernel

i'm having a similar problem. not only i have >33 second delay on 2.6.32 (i
think it's way over 1 minute in my case), but also when the screen finally
appears it sets into resolution my monitor cannot handle at all. (i think it's
either too high refresh rate, or to big resolution - everything looks like
diagonal stripes all over the screen).

i'm currently using very old daewoo cmc-1427x crt, as a temporary replacement
for my lcd. it works ok with 2.6.31, setting into 1024x768 with kms. i had to
disable automatic modesetting on 2.6.32 to be able to use this kernel.

i'll try to start modesetting and provide dmesg.

[PATCH 2/7] drivers/gpu: Use kzalloc for allocating only one thing

2009-12-19 Thread Julia Lawall
From: Julia Lawall

Use kzalloc rather than kcalloc(1,...)

The use of the allocated memory that looks like an array is &p->relocs[0],
but this should be the same as p->relocs.

The semantic patch that makes this change is as follows:

r600/KMS: hdmi audio setup

2009-12-19 Thread Luca Tettamanti
Hello,
I'm currently testing kernel 2.6.32-rc1 and the first thing I noticed is:

[drm] Enabling audio support

..that, and 10 wakeup/s ;-) I'd like to share a couple comments:

- first of all, I have a M56 (RV630) which lacks the PCI audio
function, I guess in this case the audio shouldn't be enabled at all
- the r600_audio_update_hdmi callback: is it really necessary to call
it 10 times/sec, even if no audio is playing? In a "normal" audio
driver that would be done only on ALSA ->open (or maybe ->prepare)
functions, but in this case it's not clear to me how the two pieces
(drm and alsa) interacts (can someone point me to the relevant docs?).
Maybe a tighter integration between them is needed?

thanks,
Luca

We have to check what sound comes to GPU and program registers to
support it. That's what mentioned update function does.

In future we will use IRQ for that, GPU will just tell us that audio
has changed and we need to update.

For now we could try to stop that timer where there is not HDMI, but
not sure if this is worth of that, as we have IRQ working on Dave's
local (not public) tree.

Re: r600/KMS: hdmi audio setup

Hi,

That's definitely a bug, AFAIK regarding HDMI audio the M56 is R500
based and doesn't supports it at all.

The timer was just a workaround and known regression of the usermode
ddx. The hardware is capable of raising an IRQ on audio start/stop (the
IRQ gets actually raised on any change of the audio settings, which the
video driver must recognize to update the various hdmi settings).

At the time of writing this patch the IRQ code wasn't available so I
just used the same workaround as the ddx, we should get rid of it as
soon as stable IRQ support is available.

Regards,
Christian.

I switched to 2.6.32.y git stable and pulled in drm-radeon-testing. Patched in
V8 pm and the ATOM lock patch.

I've seen three fence crashes with radeon.dynpm=1 and none so far when dynpm is
disabled. More uptime required to confirm, but seems likely the PM patch is
triggering it.

Same state as in my last comment unfortunately. My git xorg setup is fairly
outdated, and I'll be away for the Christmas holidays.

In the meantime I have however updated my xorg git installation on my r250
card. That one has made big progress, but there are still a few more bugs to
report. That's off-topic for this bug report though since TF2 won't run in Wine
on that card. (Lack of a GL_ATI_fragment_shader based pixel shader backend)

2009-12-19 Thread bugzilla-daemon
http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25729

Summary: Corrects comments used by doxygen
   Product: DRI
   Version: DRI CVS
  Platform: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS/Version: Linux (All)
Status: NEW
  Severity: minor
  Priority: low
 Component: DRM/other
AssignedTo: dri-devel@lists.sourceforge.net
ReportedBy: rjgle...@bellsouth.net

Created an attachment (id=32203)
 --> (http://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=32203)
Patch to fix problems referred to in bug description

The patch is for the drm and nouveau 2.6.32 kernel modules. Doxygen uses the
comments and complains because the existing ones disagree with the code.
Not terribly important but perhaps helpful to someone.
Best Wishes,

BG
