Sorry, clearly too early here right now: re-reading your comment it becomes clear that you're specifically asking someone to add additional EZID documentation to the page.

Issue Type:

  Bug

Affects Versions:

Assignee:

Components:

 DSpace API

Created:

Fix Versions:

Priority:

  Minor

Reporter:

 Ivan Masár

Reported on dspace-tech: http://dspace.2283337.n4.nabble.com/Persistent-groups-td4669017.html I find with some versions of DSpace including version 3.1 that if I delete a user and then recreate that user the old group memberships persist. For example if Fred belongs to group A, B and C which are administrator allocated groups. If I delete Fred then get Fred to login, authenticating with LDAP , Fred is recreated but already has groups A,B and C. (He also has the default groups for a new user) Is there a way to expunge the old groups?

The issue here is unclear (see the discussion in the attached PR). I think we need more info and analysis before we can decide the best route forward. It sounds like there may be an underlying issue here, but we aren't sure the proposed fix is actually the right direction. We need a volunteer to perform more analysis here and determine our options.

There is an external tool for batch loading currently under development: https://github.com/Georgetown-University-Libraries/batch-tools Yes, it's PHP, and yes, it currently calls out directly to PostgreSQL for some data... Terry Brady is working on refactoring the code to work with the new DSpace REST-API. But, if this is an itch you want to scratch, I'm sure Terry would appreciate more collaborators.

Perform Batch Imports from Administrative UI

In order to better support Repository Administrators in their duties, we should see if it'd be possible to allow for some batch import actions to be performed via the Admin UI. This would allow Admins to kick off bulk uploads via a UI rather than always requiring commandline access. (We already have a way to perform "item export" from the Admin UI, so t...

support for connecting to institutional reporting tools

This needs a volunteer. Several of us were discussing this again today informally. It seems much more reasonable to enhance the REST API for such reporting. I'm not a fan of allowing other systems direct access to our DB (even if read only), as it could be seen as a security issue (read only DB access would also give you access to permissions set in DSpace, and even encrypted passwords, etc). In addition, you'd have to build multiple options based on the DB backend (which isn't scalable if you wanted to add new DB backends, like MySQL). It'd be much better to generate a read-only API for reporting purposes. It may be an enhancement to the existing REST API, or even a new "restful" reporting API.

mapping author names to DSpace users

This needs a volunteer to investigate options, and perform a more thorough analysis of use cases, etc. Author identity is a problem that goes well beyond the scopes of DSpace. It's not a simple issue, and simply trying to "map" names to DSpace users may not be enough (and it could even be inaccurate...how do you know if "Joe Smith" the author is the same "Joe Smith" who has a local DSpace account?). Likely this is needing something like ORCIDs to better identify individuals, and then map those ORCIDs to DSpace users (epeople) http://orcid.org/

DSpace 4 ships with SOLR 4.4. In SOLR 4 (lucene) the index file format has been changed. This usually don't require any actions by user that come from a recent version of SOLR 3.x but older users could rely on an index file format too old. In this case the following error occur Caused by: org.apache.lucene.index.IndexFormatTooOldException: Format versio...
