Re: [dspace-tech] Re: Where are metadata text_lang defaults determined?

2022-04-26 Thread Anne Lawrence
Yes, all of us who deal with metadata here breathed a huge sigh of relief
when the script was implemented. CSVs with 20 columns are a lot to handle.
But they sure beat the same ones with 50+ columns!

Re: [dspace-tech] The term "legacy" in Statistics

2020-04-21 Thread Anne Lawrence
We migrated from DSpace 5 to DSpace 6, and have the same display. We
started the task of migrating the DSpace 5 and earlier stats to DSpace 6
ones, as outlined in DS-3602, so they would all be in one category, but
have not finished. I would add them together to determine the total
downloads.

 Hi George,

the (legacy) note is added here:

 https://github.com/DSpace/DSpace/blob/820722d2e6e848a5b486c56b6596ce1473d16792/dspace-api/src/main/java/org/dspace/statistics/content/StatisticsDataVisits.java#L543

By skimming through the code, I think it means that these are usage
events that are still present in SOLR, while the original bitstream has
 been deleted.

This seems to check out when looking at:
 https://ecommons.cornell.edu/handle/1813/7642

The two public bitstreams have sequence IDs 4 and 6, meaning that you
likely had additional bitstreams there, sequence id 1, 2, 3 and 5, and
 that
 those might be deleted?

 hope this helps,

 Bram

[dspace-tech] Re: Custom advanced search filters differ after scope change

2020-01-23 Thread Anne Lawrence
David,

That's great the filters are showing now. Yes, each bean has to be
specified separately in discovery.xml. To diagnose the lack of filter
results, I would first check the indexing. I believe, when implementing new
filters, we have had to force a complete re-indexing to get the facets and
filters to show and work properly.

[dspace-tech] Re: Thumbnails do not show up in browse list

2020-01-09 Thread Anne Lawrence
George,

Thank you for the clue about the primary bitstream. As reported in
https://github.com/VTUL/vtechworks/issues/662, we have some items that have
only the text "Thumbnail" in Browse, rather than the thumbnail, itself.
However the thumbnail does appear correctly in Simple Item View for these
items. I tried changing these files to 'primary' and that made the
thumbnail appear correctly in Browse. I then changed them back to 'not
primary' and the thumbnail still appeared correctly in Browse. We have
thousands of items that are primary and not primary and their thumbnails
appear correctly in Browse. Why these got this way, I don't understand but
I do appreciate your help toward a fix.

Thanks,

Anne

[dspace-tech] Re: Google analytics and DSpace

2019-10-01 Thread Anne Lawrence
We just migrated from DSpace 5.8 to DSpace 6.3 on September 11 and have
noticed the same huge spike in sessions since then.

Comparing August 16-25, 2019 to September 16-25, 2019:

Sessions: 12,000 vs 197,000
New visitors: 9,000 vs 162,000

Source / MediumSessions
google / organic4,949
(direct) / (none)2,791
scholar.google.com / referral1,670
search.vt.edu / referral297

vs

Source / MediumSessions
(direct) / (none)73,233
vtechworks.lib.vt.edu / referral62,301
google / organic43,079
scholar.google.com / referral6,248

The only major change to our server configuration besides the upgrade is
implementing nginx.

Can anyone explain what is happening?

Re: [dspace-tech] updating items and custom embargo

2019-08-29 Thread Anne Lawrence
Terry,

Thank you for this description of using File-Analyzer for this application.
Are you able to specify an end date for embargoed files in the SAF folders?
We've used the "\tpermissions:PERMISSIONS" in the contents file and have
wanted to add an end date to this,
https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSDOC6x/Importing+and+Exporting+Items+via+Simple+Archive+Format#ImportingandExportingItemsviaSimpleArchiveFormat-DSpaceSimpleArchiveFormat.

[dspace-tech] Migrating SOLR stats from DSpace 5 to 6?

2019-08-07 Thread Anne Lawrence
We are migrating from DSpace 5 to 6. We created a new instance of DSpace 6
and copied the database to it. We migrated this database to DSpace 6 and
ran the SOLR indexing successfully. (One thing new about the 6 instance is
that we are using nginx, so we had to configure that.) In DSpace 5, we
found that solr-export-statistics and solr-import-statistics appeared to do
nothing, so we tarred and copied the /dspace/solr/statistics/ to new
machines as a way of migrating the SOLR stats. When we did this for this
new DSpace 6 instance, no statistics display, probably because the SOLR
records use IDs rather than UUIDs. I notice that there is a tool scheduled
for DSpace 6.4, "Upgrade Legacy DSpace Object Identifiers (pre-6x
statistics) to DSpace 6x UUID Identifiers
<https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSDOC6x/SOLR+Statistics+Maintenance#SOLRStatisticsMaintenance-UpgradeLegacyDSpaceObjectIdentifiers(pre-6xstatistics)toDSpace6xUUIDIdentifiers>
," but we'd prefer not to wait for that. Does anyone have suggestions for
working this out?
