[dspace-tech] Installing Solr in a separate, dedicated server

2018-10-12 Thread RICARDO EITO BRUN
Dear colleagues,
I am considering the feasibility and potential benefits of installing the
Solr server in a separate, dedicated computer, instead of deploying it in
the same server running dspace.
Do you have some experience / recommendation on that?
wbr,

Ricardo

Re: [dspace-tech] Installing Solr in a separate, dedicated server

2018-10-14 Thread Paul Münch
Dear Ricardo,

in our institution we run DSpace in a server cluster and so we also run
Solr in a separate server. For it we use a workaround of standard DSpace
Solr installation, because we hadn't tested DSpace with a standard Solr
installation, yet.
On this separate Server we install DSpace only with the Solr webapp. Our
Tomcat communitcates with localhost on a dedicated port. In the
local.cfg we set only 'dspace.dir' and 'dspace.hostname'.

I hope it helps & kind regards,

Paul Münch
