2007-08-30 Thread Vikram Betu
Hi
Iam working on integarting Dspace in sakai by following the steps
given in Caret site .
Option1:
1.i have downloaded the sakai-src from sakaiproject.org , compiled it
successfully . and have tested with both Hsql MySQL it worked .

2. Downloaded the Contenthostinghandler tool from
https://saffron.caret.cam.ac.uk/svn/projects/Content/trunk/contenthostinghandlers/

3.Modified the pom.xml by adding these lines

modules
   …
   modulecontenthostinghandlers/module
   …
/modules

4. i gave the maven build command and i got this compilation error

==

[javac] Compiling 9 source files to D:\vikramB\sakai\sakai-src\contenthostin
ghandlers\content-chh\impl\target\classes
D:\vikramB\sakai\sakai-src\contenthostinghandlers\content-chh\impl\src\java\org\
sakaiproject\content\chh\file\ContentHostingHandlerImplFileSystem.java:175: cann
ot find symbol
symbol : variable newFileLength
location: class org.sakaiproject.content.chh.file.ContentResourceFileSystem
crfs.newFileLength = totalLength;
^

Option2:
 i downloaded the sakai-src from

https://source.sakaiproject.org/svn/sakai/trunk/

which doesn't conatins maven.xml so unable to proceed with compilation

Title: dspace/Sakai Integration

dspace/Sakai Integration

DSpace
/ Sakai Integration

What is it?
The integration work is to develop a "live link" between a
"Resources" tool on a Sakai
workspace and a running DSpace instance on
the same or another server machine. The link allows Sakai to interrogate
DSpace's hierarchic archive for "Communities", "Collections" and "Items", and to
display them in the familiar file-and-folder layout of Sakai's own resources
tree. Furthermore, the tree of items in a single Resources tool can show
simultaneously the resources held in more than one DSpace instance, and indeed
those stored in other filesystems and archives external to Sakai. The framework
for broadly representing external resources inside Sakai's Resources tool reuses
earlier work done at CARET:
Content Hosting Handlers.
A DSpace instance can be exposed in a read-only fashion
through Sakai, or read-write through Sakai's access control mechanisms. In
either case, Sakai connects to DSpace as a single "EPerson" and if that account
lacks submit privileges in DSpace, the functionality of Sakai's interface will
be limited to reading from the digital repository.

Prerequisities

Sakai 2.4 (or later). The Content Hosting Handler is an extension to 2.4
(trunk) and will not be back-ported to Sakai 2.3 or 2.2.
The ContentHostingHandler tool, obtained from CARET's SVN repository
  DSpace 1.4.1 (or later)
Larry Stone's Leightweight Network Interface (LNI)
adapter for the DSpace source (which is an incomplete implementation -- see
  patches below)
CARET patch for DSpace 1.4.1: database connection resource-leak-under-load
  patch
CARET patch for DSpace 1.4.1: implements more of the LNI protocol by
adding commands for writing to DSpace: make-collection and delete
  community/collection/item/bitstream

Installation

Sakai

Get an SVN checkout of Sakai 2.4 trunk:
  svn co

  https://source.sakaiproject.org/svn/sakai/trunk/
In the source directory, get the ContentHostingHandler tool:
  svn co

  https://saffron.caret.cam.ac.uk/svn/projects/Content/trunk/contenthostinghandlers/
Modify your pom.xml file so Maven 2 knows to build the
  ContentHostingHandler extensions:
  modules
   …
   modulecontenthostinghandlers/module
   …
/modules
Build Sakai using Maven 1 or 2. For example, using Maven 2:
  mvn -Dmaven.test.skip=true -Dmaven.tomcat.home=/path/to/your/tomcat/ clean install sakai:deploy

DSpace

Get a CVS checkout of the DSpace 1.4.1 code (recommended), or simply
download the (older) tar file in this CamTools worksite Resources:
  tar xjf ../dspace141-pre-lni.tar.bz2
Apply the DSpace/LNI patch (see file in Resources tool):
  cd dspace-1.4.1-source
patch -p0 lni-1.4-diffs.txt
unzip lni-1.4-new.zip
Apply the CARET patches to DSpace (files in the Resources section, and
also in your SVN checkout of ContentHostingHandlers from CARET's SVN
  repository):
  patch -p0 dspace-resource-leak.patch
patch -p0 dspace-lni-delete-mkcol.patch
cd ..
Compile and deploy DSpace using Apache Ant:
  cd dspace-1.4.1-source
ant clean
ant build_wars
ant lni_client
cd ..
cp dspace-1.4.1-source/build/*.war /path/to/your/tomcat/webapps/

Start-Up
Start your DSpace server and Sakai server. It does not matter
which you start first, and Sakai will not bork if DSpace goes
away and comes back while a Sakai

[Dspace-tech] Help - Extra character appearing in HTML document

2007-08-30 Thread Clive Gould
I've uploaded an HTML page into DSpace When the page stored in DSpace is
viewed from Internet Explorer under Win 2K or Firefox under CentOS 4.5
instead of a space character I am sometimes getting a capital A with a ^
on top of it. This is listed as #194 in utf8.

Any suggestions why these extra characters might be sometimes appearing in
the body of the HTML document? (

[Dspace-tech] Migrating DSPACE data from Postgres to ORACLE

2007-08-30 Thread Horan, Gabrielle
Would anyone have advice on tackling the migration of DSPACE from
Postgres to ORACLE?
Has anyone used DTM? Or would anyone recommend another tool or recommend
just SQL loader? Anything we should watch out for? Table/field
definition compatibility etc.?

Thank you
Gabrielle.

[Dspace-tech] Embargo on bitstream

2007-08-30 Thread Schaik, L.B. van
Hi,

We use DSpace among other things for Dissertations Online. Sometimes
the dissertation is in the repository, but the publisher disallows the
distribution of the full text of the dissertation or part of the
dissertation. It must be under embargo.

We have implemented a solution for this by using the resource policy
mechanism. You can set an embargo on a single bitstream, and when the
embargo ends, the bitstream is automagically available for download.

I want to share the code, but we still use Dspace 1.3.2 without CVS/SVN
support, so making a patch is nearly impossible. That is way I made a
wiki discribing the changes, including some screenshots and a script to
set embargoes in batch.

See it at: http://wiki.dspace.org/index.php/Embargo_on_Bitstream

I also looked at the source for Dspace 1.4.2 and I think it is viable to
implement this change on that version, but until we upgrade to Dspace
1.4.2 ourselves, it is left as an exercise for the reader ;-)

[Dspace-tech] Problem with DSpace 1.4.2

2007-08-30 Thread George Kozak
Hi...

On my test server, I upgraded from DSpace 1.3.2 to DSpace 1.4.2. I
am having a strange problem. Everything is working fine EXCEPT that
when I view an item, it says: There are no files associated with
this item. This even happens when I add a new item.

Has anyone else run into a problem like this?
