Re: [Dspace-tech] Collection Names with metadata values

2008-01-30 Thread Jayan Chirayath Kurian
Hi! Mark,

Are these the files to look into for altering the rendering in JSPUI.

C:\DSPace141\src\org\dspace\app\webui\jsptag\ ItemTag Or ItemListTag.

Please suggest.

I think this should be possible with a Manakin theme by implementing
your own xslt template for the search/browse results. Alternatively, you
could hack the JSPUI taglibrary to change the rendering in the JSPUI.
But its not something that is configurable in dspace.cfg if that is what
your hope for.

Cheers,

Mark

[Dspace-tech] Chinese titles

2008-01-30 Thread Jayan Chirayath Kurian
hi!

For documents with Chinese titles, DSpace displays correctly the chinese
characters in the simple item view. But in the automatic submission &
archived email sent from the DSpace admin account, the chinese
characters in the title metadata are mentioned as "???". Please
suggest if there is a configuration to set up to display in chinese.

Create an administrator account with
C:\Dspace\bin> dsrun org.dspace.administer.CreateAdministrator
This account will enable to create collections and communities with a

I've not had to install it on Solaris yet, but I'm due to visit a university
in the UK to do so in a few weeks time, so would appreciate hearing about
your experience. I can't imagine there will be too many difficulties.

I'm sure we'd all be grateful if you documented your findings on a page
linked from http://wiki.dspace.org/index.php/Installation (there are links
to installation notes on lots of different platforms).

Cheers,

Stuart

Re: [Dspace-tech] Database Id for postgresql

2008-01-30 Thread Claudia Juergen
Hi Pavan,

in order to do an import you need an existing community/collection
structure. Items can only be imported to collections and collections must
be in a community.

"Database ID" refers to the id of the collections i.e. collection_id in
the table collection.

cheers

[Dspace-tech] Database Id for postgresql

2008-01-30 Thread pavan krishnamurthy
Hi,

I am currently migrating from eprints to dspace. When i am running
itemimport one of the required paramter is collection handle. I have
empty database so there are no rows in collection table .

In the help of itemimport there is note saying u can also pass
Database Id. Now how do i locate the database id of it .

"-c,--collectiondestination collection(s) Handle or database ID" .

Thanks

[Dspace-tech] Using dc.creator instead of dc.contributor.author?

2008-01-30 Thread Shawna Sadler
About a year ago I had the exact same idea and tried it out to much
head-ache. I quickly found out how much of the DSpace functionality
depends on the dc.contributor.author field, such as searching, browsing
and cross-referencing.

I was going to re-configure the search and browse, but when I had to go
into some of the underlying code to make the new Dublin Core code work
for cross-referencing and other features, it seemed like too much
trouble to do and maintain over new versions.

I'd like to take flip the contributor. author field to creator at a
global level for my instance of Dspace when it is harvested. All in good
time. I have not worked with Makain yet, looking forward to it though.

My two cents, but I agree with everything Dorothea said.

This is one of the few bits of DSpace that is Unix specific (it relies on
tools such as sed).

It might be worth reporting this as a bug in sourceforge, and hopefully
someone will get around to looking at it.

If it causing you a particular headache, as you are a UK institution, you
could get in touch with the Repositories Support Project ([EMAIL PROTECTED])
and see if they have any effort they could throw in this direction for you.
