[Dspace-tech] Is cleanup command time bound
Hi , Using cleanup commands If we have submissions that are removed from dspace, I don't see the assetstore shrink immediately interms of space. I have removed some submissions from dspace system yesterday and today with the cleanup , I was able to reclaim the assetstore space . However when I added some submissions today and then removed, with the use of cleanup command , I was not able to get thy e assetstore space reclaimed immediately. Would like to know whether there are any caveats to this cleanup command . [Dspace-tech] upgrade 1.2.1 -> input-forms.xml
hi I was wondering why I could not find a input-forms.xml in the old 1.2.1 installation of DSpace .. and noticed this line in the upgrade doc, the 1.2.1 to 1.2.2 paragraph: "To finialise the install of the new configurable submission forms you need to copy the file [dspace-1.2.2-source]/config/input-forms.xml into [dspace]/config." So how was the input process configured before that? I can't really figure out if that old installation was customised in any way, and if and how I should port that to the input-forms.xml ... -- Ms. Maike Dulk - Programmer / Analyst McPherson Library, University of Victoria (t) 250-886-5709 / (e) [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- Harthon gerithach aeair vilui / I hope you will have kind seas - Check out the new SourceForge.net Marketplace. Re: [Dspace-tech] Regarding Video Content Support in DSpace
Hi Shane, I share your concern about preservation-ready repositories, but in this case I think we can have our cake and eat it too... and I think this is just a different way of saying what you said. There's no reason that the repository couldn't store an archival master copy of the video that is restricted to, e.g., the repository administrator, and also have a link in the metadata to a delivery copy, wherever it resides. It would be nice if the delivery copy could be delivered right from DSpace, but for special or odd formats that may never be practical (think of proprietary formats like AutoCAD or ESRI). Lots of digital archives make the distinction between preservation and use copies, and consider the use copies entirely disposable and reference them for the users convenience. Does that make sense to do here? [Dspace-tech] manakin-questions
Hi, I'm very new to manakin. I've managed to change the theme for one page and work with xsl and css. The full text search isn't working. When the Dspace logs and and dspace code(class DSQuery) are checked, they seem to be fine. There seems to be a problem with the query string. It breaks when the parse method from lucene is called. How do I check what's going on between the form submission and the call that's made to the DSpace code? Is there a way to output a trace? The other question is about aspects. One of the programmers here has implemented a servlet that will work with any generic DSpace instance. Currently, we have a test instance with manakin, if I wanted to add this servlet to Manakin, would this involve working with the aspect side of things? Sorry, I don't know a whole lot about java...so I apologize if these questions are totally obvious. Thanks so much! Re: [Dspace-tech] A doubt with batch importer
Hola Germán, this import is a successful import. The message at the end simply means that a handle as supposed was created. DSpace uses the handle system as persistent identifier at the moment. For more details see http://www.handle.net/. While importing items, which got no handle one is created. So your test run is ok. saludos Claudia > Hi guys! > > > I'm proving the batch importer tool with several files, but I supose > that my dublin_core.xml file is not well configured because the command > /dsrun/ returns this: > > > ***Test Run** - not actually importing items. > Destination collections: > Owning Collection: Coleccion de pruebas 1 > Adding items from directory: ../Paquete1 > Generating mapfile: ../mapfile > Adding item from directory Item1 > Loading dublin core from ../Paquete1/Item1/dublin_core.xml > Schema: dc Element: title Qualifier: none Value: Item de prueba 1 > Schema: dc Element: date Qualifier: issued Value: 2008 > Schema: dc Element: title Qualifier: alternate Value: ble ble ble > Processing contents file: ../Paquete1/Item1/contents > Bitstream: cyberpunk.pdf > Bitstream: mitologia_fedro_platon.pdf > Bitstream: mitologia.pdf > Processing handle file: handle > It appears there is no handle file -- generating one > 0 Item1 > Adding item from directory Item2 > Loading dublin core from ../Paquete1/Item2/dublin_core.xml > Schema: dc Element: title Qualifier: none Value: La segunda > importacion > Schema: dc Element: date Qualifier: issued Value: 2009 > Schema: dc Element: title Qualifier: alternate Value: bla bla bla > Processing contents file: ../Paquete1/Item2/contents > Bitstream: arquitectura_consolas.pdf > Bitstream: guerra_consolas.pdf > Processing handle file: handle > It appears there is no handle file -- generating one > 1 Item2 > ***End of Test Run > > > > * The command that I write (the ePerson and collectionID exist on > database): > > /*./dsrun org.dspace.app.itemimport.ItemImport -a -e [EMAIL PROTECTED] > -c *1* -s *../Paquete1* -m *../mapfile* --test > > */ > > * The dublin_core.xml file on each item directory has this structure > (same that the example in the web documentation): > > On Item1 directory: > > * > Item de prueba 1 > 2008 > ble > ble ble > > > *On Item2 directory: > > * > **Item de prueba > 2** > 2009 > bla > bla bla > * > > /* > */What does mean "/It appears there is no handle file -- generating > one"?/ The dublin_core file needs more elements?Which? > > Thanks, a lot!! > > - > Check out the new SourceForge.net Marketplace. > It's the best place to buy or sell services for > just about anything Open Source. > http://ad.doubleclick.net/clk;164216239;13503038;w?http://sf.net/marketplace___ > DSpace-tech mailing list > DSpace-tech@lists.sourceforge.net > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/dspace-tech > - Check out the new SourceForge.net Marketplace. You have put it into test mode with the -t flag -- if you want the items to appear in the repository, do not use this flag. > What does mean "It appears there is no handle file -- generating one"? The > dublin_core file needs more elements?Which? It just means that this is a new item that doesn't have a handle, so DSpace will assign it one. You don't need to do anything differently. If you were reimporting an item that you had previously exported, there would be a handle file that DSpace would read so that the item kept its existing handle. Re: [Dspace-tech] Regarding Video Content Support in DSpace
I've said this before, and I have to say it again due to my philosophical outlook on the issue: Using a repository record to link to an item stored elsewhere is a tactic that will continue to cause more difficulties in digital preservation. When the record and the item are stored separately, there is no actual structural bond keeping them permanently together whatsoever, and any number of things can cause the link to fail and the record to be useless. As a secondary resource, an item on a streaming server makes sense. It can be used to provide a fast-access copy to users for preview or viewing, and the primary bistream can still be the video file. There is really no reason to not include it, and simply use a link in another metadata field or description to provide a streaming version. Re: [Dspace-tech] Regarding Video Content Support in DSpace
Unless these videos are extremely short, that would involve adding a second content delivery model to DSpace. Users aren't going to be satisfied to sit and wait while their browsers download 5GB of video content before starting to play it. I've experimented with storing a simple SMIL document as the item's primary bitstream, and having that point to a streaming server which supplies the actual video. The problem I ran into is that SMIL support in popular browsers was poor to nonexistent at that time. I haven't retested for a while, so the situation may have improved. -- Mark H.
