[Dspace-tech] dspace 1.6.0 rc1 bugs

2010-02-04 Thread Fabien COMBERNOUS
Hi,

After my tests of dspace 1.6.0 rc1, i reported the following bugs :
http://jira.dspace.org/jira/browse/DS-474
http://jira.dspace.org/jira/browse/DS-475
http://jira.dspace.org/jira/browse/DS-476

Thank you to people helped me on IRC.

Issues 475 and 476 are probably critical for me. I am not sure to be
able to use dspace in a production env.

Best regards,

[Dspace-tech] email notification

2010-02-04 Thread Sergiu Ioan Irimia
Hello. I'm using Dspace 1.5.2. Manakin/xmlui on windows server 2003.My problem
is that we do not want to use handle server. So far I've managed to change all
the links that bothered me including http://handle.net/ manually, but I'm
stuck at a link generated by the system in the email send to confirm the
acceptance of a submission.
Here is the message:You submitted: fasdf

To collection: 1.2. .

Your submission has been accepted and archived in ,
and it has been assigned the following identifier:
http://hdl.handle.net/123456789/116

Please use this identifier or the URL address when citing your submission.

Many thanks!

I would like to change the identifier received in this mail from
http://hdl.handle.net/123456789/116 to http://[my site]/123456789/116,
preferably without recompiling dspace. I've tried to resolve the problem but no
luck. Any help is highly appreciated.

[Dspace-tech] Thumbnail Display

2010-02-04 Thread RENTON Scott
Hi folks,

I'm using Dspace to set up an imaging repository, and one of the requirements
is that items can be browsed with the thumbnail showing.

I think I've carried out the steps, so if anyone can tell me what I'm doing
wrong, that would be great.

1. Changed dspace.cfg to the relevant settings to show thumbnails

(webui.browse.thumbnail.show = true

# max dimensions of the browse/search thumbs. Must be = thumbnail.maxwidth
# and thumbnail.maxheight. Only need to be set if required to be smaller than
# dimension of thumbnails generated by mediafilter (1.2+)
webui.browse.thumbnail.maxheight = 80
webui.browse.thumbnail.maxwidth = 80

# whether to display the thumb against each bitstream (1.2+)
# (This configuration is not used by XMLUI. To show thumbnails in the
# XMLUI, you just need to create a theme which displays them)
webui.item.thumbnail.show = true

# where should clicking on a thumbnail from browse/search take the user
# Only values currently supported are item and bitstream
webui.browse.thumbnail.linkbehaviour = target page type

# maximum width and height of generated thumbnails
thumbnail.maxwidth 80
thumbnail.maxheight 80)

2.Ran filter-media (locally, from a cmd window, before I attempt this on the
test server).
3.Ran the two index processes available in 1.5.2 (index-init and index-update).
4.Restarted Tomcat.

Is there anything else I need to do? I have a few .jpg items in there, and
nothing changed when I re-entered Dspace!

Cheers
Scott

[Dspace-tech] License submission steps

2010-02-04 Thread Evans, Kevin
Hello yet again list

I have a question about the License submission steps.

We wish to use both the default license and the CC License. But we wish to
swap the order the submitter chooses. i.e Default License first followed by
CC License.

Is this possible in XMLUI?

Re: [Dspace-tech] License submission steps

2010-02-04 Thread Tim Donohue
Kevin,

Unfortunately, in both the JSPUI and the XMLUI, the CC License and the
Default License are part of the same step and therefore cannot be
reordered. This is basically a mistake in how this step was implemented
initially, and we really should be looking to separate these into two
different steps (a CC License step and a normal license step).

If you or anyone else out there wishes to take this change on, I think
it'd be a worthwhile one.

I want know how to manipulate my dspace default search to be able to

results, anyone who knows how to control dspace search may advice in

Re: [Dspace-tech] Set up Search

2010-02-04 Thread Claudia Juergen
Hello Lewatle,

if you do type in Ideals in Architecture including the quote signs you
will search for the complete string and you get a single hit on your
instance.

Without the quote signs it will search for

Ideals [search.operator] in [search.operator] Architecture

The default search.operator in dspace.cfg is set to OR, so this will
result in

ideals OR in OR architecture

in is most likely a stop word (haven't checked), so the final search
will be

ideals OR architecture.

You can change this by changing the search.operator to AND, but if you
really want the complete literal to be searched (regardless of search
operators you nee to use quote signs.

Hope that helps

Claudia Jürgen

Re: [Dspace-tech] DSpace 1.5.2 cocoon.log access problems (continued)

2010-02-04 Thread Eric Schewe
Except for the problem that the Tomcat users home directory is
/usr/share/tomcat5 which it doesn't have enough permission to create a
'.m5' folder in when you run 'mvn package'.

Re-configuring the Tomcat home directory will more than likely break
Tomcat.

Guess you need a dspace user to build dspace with and then run
everything under Tomcat after it's built. Or create a '.m5' directory
manually with the correct permissions.

That's what I would do, unless you have some reason for the separate
accounts. DSpace doesn't care what its account is named, and Tomcat
will be easier to live with if you just let it own everything it
touches.

[Dspace-tech] Sloooow submission process in DSpace 1.5.1

2010-02-04 Thread Thornton, Susan M. (LARC-B702)[RAYTHEON TECHNICAL SERVICES COMPANY]
Hello,

We have been noticing recently that, as our repository grows in size (we
currently have approx. 125,000 Items and adding more each week), our online
submission process is getting slower and slower and slower. It's gotten so bad
that, even if I'm only trying to add more authors to an Item by clicking the
Add more button:
[cid:image003.jpg@01CAA5C7.FD9229D0]

It is taking a really long time (just now it took approximately 20 seconds) for
the application to respond with the subsequent screen:

[cid:image004.jpg@01CAA5C7.FD9229D0]

To make things worse, once the customer clicks on the I grant the license
button, the application hangs not just for seconds, but for minutes (I saw one
case of 11 minutes recently). Our customers are getting very frustrated with
this.

Has anyone else had this problem or does anyone have an idea of where DSpace
might be getting bogged-down. I looked at the INFO messages in the dspace.log
file and there seems to be a whole lot of update_item lines in there while
not much seems to be happening on the screen, but I didn't look at the programs
in detail.

Any help would certainly be appreciated.

Sue

Re: [Dspace-tech] Sloooow submission process in DSpace 1.5.1

2010-02-04 Thread Graham Triggs
Hi Sue,

(You don't say explicitly, so I'll assume that you are using Postgres)

I can't explain why the addition of metadata rows is taking so long - there
are a number of factors that could come into play... server getting many /
expensive requests, resource contention, postgres needs maintaining (ie.
vacuum) or tuning or upgrading, or all three.

However, the issue of slow installing (license granting) of items, is quite
likely answered in this post:

http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_name=9efc26fb-749c-4a67-8481-f1a6ce09b...@gmail.com

to put it briefly - the item installation takes on some extra work in browse
indexing to ensure that general browse lookups are efficient (you only add
an item once, users might issue 100s of browse requests a day). The SQL that
makes that calculation is written in it's most efficient form.

But you still need the database to be configured properly in order for that
operation to be executed in an efficient way. If you are using the default
work_mem setting, you can easily save 60% of your installation time - and
generally improving the efficiency of the database - by increasing it
appropriately.

G
