Re: [Dspace-tech] HistoryState and History tables

2010-05-03 Thread Terrance Davis
Thank you.

On a related note. The two commands,

CREATE SEQUENCE history_seq;
CREATE SEQUENCE historystate_seq;

exist in the dspace 1.5.2 postgresql database_schema.sql script. Are
those sequences also an oversight? (I am doing a complex migration, so
need to be sure.)

Best regards,

Terrance Davis

Re: [Dspace-tech] remove bitstream

2010-05-03 Thread Tim Donohue
Hi Christian,

A similar question was asked just last week on dspace-general mailing
list. You can see the thread of discussion here:

http://www.mail-archive.com/dspace-gene...@lists.sourceforge.net/msg00242.html

In particular, here's the response I sent about the new features in
DSpace 1.6.0 which help you to Delegate Administration privileges:

http://www.mail-archive.com/dspace-gene...@lists.sourceforge.net/msg00250.html

So, you may want to think about upgrading to DSpace 1.6.0. Not only are
there many new features available, but that release also helped to make
steps to improve our Administrative privileges in DSpace. In 1.6.0,
there are now Site Administrators, Community Admins, Collection Admins
and even Item Admins. Previous to 1.6.0, there were only Site Admins and
Collection Admins.

In 1.6.0 you can also configure exactly what rights you want each
Administrative role (Site/Community/Collection/Item Admin) to have,
based on your local institutions policies. For more information on
configuring these access rights, see the 1.6.0 Configuration Documentation:
http://www.dspace.org/1_6_0Documentation/ch05.html#N126F0

Good luck,

- Tim

Whenever I access D-Space pages I receive the 505 error.

I am sure this is a simple matter, but none of the solutions offered in

Re: [Dspace-tech] DSpace 2.0 projected release date?

2010-05-03 Thread Tim Donohue
Sue & All,

I've just updated our DSpace RoadMap to have more details around the
upcoming DSpace release plans. So, hopefully this will provide some
more detail to what Peter already said:

http://wiki.dspace.org/confluence/display/DSPACE/RoadMap

I'm hoping to keep this RoadMap up-to-date as much as possible -- but,
obviously it needed some updates. So, thanks for asking about the roadmap!

Re: [Dspace-tech] Media filtering problem - filtering was unsuccessful

2010-05-03 Thread Thornton, Susan M. (LARC-B702)[RAYTHEON TECHNICAL SERVICES COMPANY]
We had the same problems and finally replaced the use of PDFBox to filter .pdf
files with XPDF2Text. Our only documents that won't filter now are truly
corrupt files. Plus XPDF2Text is 10 times as fast as PDFBox. Take a look at
this:

Subject: [Dspace-tech] Media filtering problem - filtering was unsuccessful

We are experiencing problems with media filtering of PDF files added in our
thesis digitisation project.

A number of the files (perhaps 10%) will not filter, the command window just
pauses for up to 15 minutes or so, then displays:

"SKIPPED: bitstream 5698 (item: 10182/1780) because filtering was unsuccessful"

No other error message or clue is given.

I can see no common feature of the PDFs that won't filter - they can be b&w
only or some colour, different PDF versions. Yes, they are all quite large
files (10MB or larger), but not all files of this size are failing in this way.

I find that if I split the file into parts and re-upload, they will then filter
OK.

Has anyone else experienced this and do you have a solution?

The solr statistics is working fine, my mistake I was not created a
symbolic link to solr directory with tomcat webapps, your assistance it
really worked and I was also never put solr.log.server =
http://localhost:8080/solr/statistics.

I am testing all the new features and tools in dspace-1.6.0 so when we
migrate to new version 1.6.1 that we still expecting I will not have
much task to do but to just apply.

Thanks

Hi Lewatle,

You have:

solr.log.server = /home/dspace/solr/statistics

This needs to be a URL rather than a file path. We have found that most
people have success when using the following setting:

solr.log.server = http://localhost:8080/solr/statistics

This assumes that tomcat is running on port 8080 (adjust if not) and
that you have deployed the [dspace]/webapps/solr webapp to tomcat?

Thanks,

Re: [Dspace-tech] tomcat as service

2010-05-03 Thread Hayden Young
How did you install Tomcat? Via yum? If so, there should already be a
startup script in /etc/init.d and you should be able to start restart
Tomcat by executing a command such as;

service tomcat restart

I haven't used redhat for a while but I think once it has been installed
you may have to configure it to start on bootup using something like;

chkconfig tomcat on

Cheers

[Dspace-tech] Dspace-1.6.0 SOLR Statistics

2010-05-03 Thread Lewatle Phaladi
Hi

I am trying SOLR statistics on my Dspace test server and I have edited
a dspace.cfg to the bellow changes and restarted Tomcat.

In my dspace.cfg file I don't have property name that says
solr.spidersfile and I am also not sure about the dsrun
org.dspace.statistics.util.SpiderDetector -i  command, I
need idea from someone who have done this solr statistics before and it
is working to share with the solution. On my web browser the results
shows :

Statistics

Total Visits

  Views

File Visits

Views

Top country views

Views

Top cities views

  Views

I was expecting the results more or less similar to :
http://demo.dspace.org/xmlui/handle/123456789/60/statistics
In dspace.cfg I have done this changes :

# Usage Logging #

solr.log.server = /home/dspace/solr/statistics

solr.dbfile = /home/dspace/config/GeoLiteCity.dat

# If enabled the statistics system will look for an X-Forward header

# if it finds it, it will use this for the user IP Addrress

# it is enabled by default

 useProxies = true

# Control if the statistics pages should be only shown to authorized
users

# If enabled, only the administrators for the DSpaceObject will be able
to

# view the statistics.

# If disabled, anyone with READ permissions on the DSpaceObject will be
able

# to view the statistics.

statistics.item.authorization.admin=false

# control solr statistics querying to filter out spider IPs

# false by default

# solr.statistics.query.filter.spiderIp = false

# control solr statistics querying to look at "isBot" field to determine

# if record is a bot. true by default.

# solr.statistics.query.filter.isBot = true

# URLs to download IP addresses of search engine spiders from

solr.spiderips.urls = http://iplists.com/google.txt, \

  http://iplists.com/inktomi.txt, \

  http://iplists.com/lycos.txt, \

  http://iplists.com/infoseek.txt, \

  http://iplists.com/altavista.txt, \

  http://iplists.com/excite.txt, \

  http://iplists.com/misc.txt, \

  http://iplists.com/non_engines.txt

Regards,

Lewatle

[Dspace-tech] Collection Policy

2010-05-03 Thread Lewatle Phaladi
Hi All

We were having a closed policy for our previous collections and now we
use open policy for all recently created collections, our problem is we
want to apply changes to even those old collections so they all use open
policy without changing them one by one, what is the best way to do so
?

Regards,

Lewatle
