Re: [Dspace-tech] Sidebar search box broken?

2011-05-12 Thread Bram Luyten
Seems to be a genuine bug, Mirage related, as tested on two non-mirage 1.7's
didn't give the problem:
http://ir.dut.ac.za/handle/10321/212
http://dspace.upv.es/handle/10251/9187

logged it as a bug in JIRA for fixing

[Dspace-tech] DuraSpace 2011 Community Sponsorship Campaign

2011-05-12 Thread Valorie Hollister
Dear DSpace Community,

Last week kicked off the 2011 DuraSpace Sponsorship Campaign (see press release
below). As most of you already know, the sponsor program is designed to help
sustain the DuraSpace organization, a not-for-profit. In addition to the press
release, we have mailed out 700 sponsorship packets to library directors at
institutions around the world, including many of yours. For more information
about the sponsor packets you can visit: http://www.duraspace.org/sponsors.
You can also read more about our 22010 accomplishments and our 2011 initiatives
in our annual report (http://www.duraspace.org/about.php).

Please encourage your organization's leadership and others in your network to
support our efforts. With the community's help we will continue to enhance our
existing technologies, advocate for our user community and innovate with new
solutions that ensure the long-term durability of our collective digital
heritage.

Thank you!

I tried a couple of things people suggested such as making sure I was
running the command prompt as an administrator, restarting the server to
make sure no odd java processes were running, and restarting all of the
DSpace services. I still am getting an error when I try to start the

2011-05-12 Thread Wendy J Bossons
Not to confuse the issue, but I am running a 1.7.1 instance and using Mirage,
but could not replicate this behavior, e.g. I'm not seeing this "Page Not
Found" issue.

Will send the url in a separate email to Bram as this is not generally a
publicly advertised site.

However, when I tried one of the cited instances in the JIRA, it was replicated
as reported.

[Dspace-tech] [dspace-tech] Copying solr statistics data

2011-05-12 Thread César Sabater
Hi all,
I'm using Dspace 1.6.2 with solr statistics, also I have another test
repository with the same version and the same data. So I want to copy
the first repository stats data to the second one. Is ok if I copy
[dspace]/solr/statistics/data folder to solr data folder in the second
repo?

Also I can convert an inmport the logs form the first one to the
second.. but that seems to be much more tedious.

Greetings!
César Sabater

Hi César,

Copying the data directory should be sufficient, just make sure you stop the
tomcat of your test repository while copying.
Also I'm not sure how the copying will handle it if your production server
solr is logging data in the meantime (for safety reason I would suggest
shutting it down just to be sure).

Kind regards,

Re: [Dspace-tech] DSpace-tech Digest, Vol 61, Issue 25

2011-05-12 Thread Brown, Simon Contractor, Digital Consulting Services
How do I locate the reference DS-534? My confusion with mixing metadata
schemas actually stems from my consufusion about the 'name' of namespaces being
the prefix for metadata elements in a schema despite the same xml tags
( and ) in every schema. Because they all say Dublin
core, I assumed you could used Dublin core in multiple schemas.
Thanks,

The search box in our Mirage install's sidebar appears to be broken in the same
way it's broken on the demo site:

http://demo.dspace.org/xmlui/handle/10673/9528
http://dcommon-test.bu.edu/xmlui/handle/2144/999

Searching "This Collection" (which should be "This Community") on either of
those pages produces "Page not found."  I can't find any documentation of this;
is this known? Is there a solution?

[Dspace-tech] Using item update to add only bitstreams.

2011-05-12 Thread Isaak, David C

Greetings,

I am a repository manager currently running version 1.7.1. I have successfully
used the Item Importer feature before with my files in DSpace's simple archive
format, but now for the first time I would like to use the Item Update feature
to just add bitstreams to my metadata only records. It is not entirely clear
to me from the manual (section 9.5) what needs to be included in the
dublin_core.xml file in this scenario. Since I am not adding new metadata, is
all that is needed the id and collection tags?

Thanks in advance,
David

In DSpace 1.7.1 I've translated my input-forms.xml into spanish and
everything is OK but when I choose a month in the combo it's only shown

Any ideas?

Sorry -- that's a ticket in our bug-tracking system, which is at:

  http://jira.dspace.org/

Just enter DS-534 in the search box.

However, that just tracks the bug report and its resolution. The
actual documentation of the input format is at the immediately
preceding URL.

[Dspace-tech] add-on code separation

2011-05-12 Thread Wei Li
hi,

I am currently adding a step to the submission process to implement an
additional future on top of DSpace-1.7.1. Currently the way I am doing
this is very messy, i.e. all my code are mixed with the dspace base
code, including:
1) new classes in dspace-api/submit,
2) dspace-jsp-api/submit,
3) new jsps in dspace-jsp-webapp,
4)some customizations on jspui,
5)changes on config/item-submission.xml
6)changes on Message.properties
7) a couple of new config files in the dspace/config directory .

So I want to have a clean separation of the code(changes) I added and
the dspace base code so that I can update them independently.
Therefore, I am wondering how I could accomplish this nicely or
whether there is a guildline about this.

Thank you very much!

Sincerely,
Wei

Re: [Dspace-tech] add-on code separation

2011-05-12 Thread Mark Diggory
The simplest approach is:

1.) yes, your item-submission and other configuration should go under
[dspace-src]/dspace/config

2.) Place your submit code into
[dspace-src]/dspace/modules/jspui/src/main/java/your/package/name/YourStep.java

3.) place your messages.properties in
[dspace-src]/dspace/modules/jspui/src/main/resources/Message.properties

If any of your code needs to be available from cli apps as well, you will want
to make a new module project (for example)

cd [dspace-src]/dspace/modules
mvn archetype:generate -DarchetypeArtifactId=maven-archetype-quickstart
-DarchetypeGroupId=org.apache.maven.archetypes
-DarchetypeGroupId=org.apache.maven.archetypes -DgroupId=org.dspace.modules
-DartifactId=api -Dversion=1.7.1

and add it as a dependency to the other modules like dspace/jspui/pom.xml and
to dspace/pom.xml

api
org.dspace.modules
1.7.1

You may then completely remove the all the [dspace-src]/dspace-x projects
from your code so that your not having to repeatedly build them every-time you
want to deploy your instance.

Use a tool like Intellij IDEA to manage your project, it will guide validate
the poms and if you follow the IDEA guide you can learn how to debug your
changes on the fly via IDEA and manage your changes to the codebase.
https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACE/IDE+Integration+-+DSpace+and+IDEA

Best,
Mark Diggory
