Re: [Dspace-tech] browse index: full vs. single

2011-09-01 Thread Claudia Jürgen
Hello Josh,

there are two types of browse indices "metadata" and "item" see section
6.2.26. Browse Index Configuration of the System Documentation
http://www.dspace.org/1_7_1Documentation/DSpace-Manual.pdf
What you refer to as "full" is an item index.

In dspace.cfg there is a section Browse Configuration:

a metadata index has the form
webui.browse.index. =  : metadata : .[.|.*] : (date | title | text) : (asc | desc)

an item index has the form
webui.browse.index. =  : item :  : (asc
| desc)

After having changed the browse configuration you got to stop your
instance, run [dspace]/bin/dspace index-init and restart it.

Hope that helps

Claudia Jürgen

We have implemented it, but are looking for ways to use the files.

[Dspace-tech] Cannot Log-in to DSpace (xmlui) using Chrome‏

2011-09-01 Thread dantexier
Hi, I have a problem with Chrome and xmlui when I try to customize it ,but I
use Firefox and everything is OK.

I try to log-in nothing happens: The system does not show the user name on the
top and it looks like when anonymous user works. Points important:
- It works fine in JSPUI (all browsers)
- In XMLUI, the system is still reacting to wrong username/password but when
those are correct, nothing happens.
- The DSpace log file shows no error: shows a successful login, but then
loosing the name and anonymous user appears.

Thanks,
Jose Daniel

2011-09-01 Thread Peter Dietz
Hi Jose,

I've noticed some other separate issues with Javascript libraries with
Chrome the other day too.

Chrome does work in the out-of-the-box XMLUI, so I don't know how much you
have customized your theme, but the first thing I would double check is your
Console in Chrome's Inspect Element (Control+Shift+I), and see if you have
Javascript errors.

Normally these kind of things are fixed when the javascript is clean.

[Dspace-tech] change to browse

2011-09-01 Thread Blanco, Jose
I would like to make the following change to the browse.

I have a new dc called description.restricted. I want the browse not to
display the items that have the string 'restricted' in this field. This would
apply to the following browse:
Title
Author
Date
And
Subject

I have been looking at the code and am not able to see a very easy way to do
this. Is there a place where I can put this where clause. The clause is
something like this:

WHERE metadatavalue.item_id not in (select distinct item_id from metadatavalue
where text_value='restricted' and metadata_field_id =108)

I see that items that archived or withdrawn are not displayed, but I'm not sure
how I could add this new filter. Could someone give me some clue.

Thank you!
Jose

[Dspace-tech] Building from source does not work as expected.

2011-09-01 Thread Christian Voelker
Hello,

I habe already set up a test instance of dspace 1.7.2 using the binary release.
Now, to integrate a translation of the Messages file for Discovery it looks
like I have to switch to a source build.

I downloaded the source distribution, unpacked and ran mvn package and switched
to the target/dspace-blurb.dir. When listing the contents of the webapp
directory I find it cluttered with all the many .jsp files and folders the
belong to the jspui besides a few different folders such as i18n, aspects or
themes. Obviously, the same stuff gets copied from dspace-source to dspace when
running ant update. As such, the xmlui cannot be reached as opposed to the
binary distribution where everthing works fine.

I expected to find more or less the same stuff in the webapps directory when
using the source distribution as with the binary distribution. However, in
binary distribution, the webapps dir contains a set of folders such as xmlui,
jspui, lni, oai and so on, very neat. And, it works. I tried to pull sources
with subversion, same thing. The dspace.cfg ist the same as in the working
binary file tree. The install docs dont distinguish between binary and source
distribution. No errors get thrown while running mvn package.

I probably do a very stupid mistake or just overlook something essential but
for now I am really clueless. Thanks for any hint.

Bye, Christian

We are moving collections from a DSpace 1.5.1 system to a
DSpace 1.7.2 system.
22 Collections seemed to export/import fine.
However 2 collections will not export correctly.
They have individual items with a foolishly
large number of files attached.
One collection only has 2 items but with
1100 files in one and 770 in the other.
The 1100 file item exported OK, but the 770
file item produced a truncated contents file with a truncated file name,
so the import fails on a bad file name. I can certainly re-create the
contents file, but this failed export undermines my confidence.
An export/import process might lose something.
My remaining collection is huge with some
items with many files like this.
What is the practical size limit of a collection and
of an item? These are also fairly large files, around 30Mbytes each.
It would be excessively laborious to
export/import this kind of collection, one item at a time.

This shouldn't happen. In which directory are you running mvn package?
For the source distribution, this should (in 1.7.2) be run in the dspace
subdirectory, *not* the top-level directory. Though I just did a trial
build from the top-level directory and my
target/dspace1.7.2-build.dir/webapps/ looks fine:

$ ls [dspace-src]/dspace/target/dspace-1.7.2-build.dir/webapps/
jspui lni oai solr sword xmlui

What's your maven version? There are known issues with DSpace 1.7.2 and
maven 3.

cheers,
Andrea

Re: [Dspace-tech] Building from source does not work as expected.

2011-09-01 Thread Pottinger, Hardy J.
Hi, Christian, I've seen this happen, and was able to address it by
switching to an earlier version of Maven (2.2.1... Someone had upgraded
Maven on accident, to Maven 3).
