[Dspace-tech] Psuedo video streaming with item attachment and seeking enabled

2013-02-25 Thread Jonathan Freesbay
Hi,

I added a html 5 video tag to play the video's I uploaded to dspace. The
video can be played, but I cannot seek to parts which aren't downloaded.

The command curl -H Range:bytes=16- -I localhost:8080 gives
Accept-Ranges: bytes back, so tomcat understands content-range. Does
this mean that the servlet handling the file downloads doesn't implement
content-range? What other options do I have within dspace to do this or
will it be difficult to implement content-range on servlet level?

Regards,

(This is my second post for the same question, as the first was sent to
dspace-gene...@lists.sourceforge.net, as the question should be sent to
this mailing list.)

Re: [Dspace-tech] Private config includes?

2013-02-25 Thread Alan Orth
Thanks, helix.

I'll check out the build.properties for 3.0, hopefully I can specify my
database configs there. I'll also make sure to comment on the Jira
ticket to make my use cases known for that new Dynamic Configuration
functionality.

We currently use git to manage our development / production DSpace
instances. Because our github repository is public we don't keep our
configs under version control (to protect database passwords, etc).
This is a bit of a kludge, and requires us to `ant update
-Dconfig=configname` as well as keep several config/modules/ directories
around (one for production, one for development).

I was just thinking it would be nice if there was a way to have a
private includes functionality (similar to httpd configuration), so I
could include private.conf or something. Does this exist already?
No, there is only the build.properties functionality since 3.0 [1],
but that intentionally doesn't allow you to specify all the
 configuration options.

The proposed Dynamic Configurations functionality [2] is a proposed
reimplementation of the configuration service. It's still in the early
stages, so make sure to mention your needs in its Jira issue [3]. If
it's accepted, it could be available as soon as in 4.0.

Re: [Dspace-tech] Google Docs Viewer

2013-02-25 Thread helix84
Hi Matt,

when I tested it, only as a proof of concept, it worked great both for
PDF and DOC files. I don't remember whether it handles raster images,
but I listed the formats it handles here:
https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACE/Document+Viewer+Integration

The only thing to keep in mind is that the document in DSpace has to
be publicly accessible (bitstream Anonymous READ), otherwise the
Google servers can't get their hands on them and therefore render
them.

BTW there's something here (I haven't read it):

Re: [Dspace-tech] help for reset password

2013-02-25 Thread Brian Freels-Stendel
Hi Ravi,

Usually, you can click the Forgot your password? link on a login page.
You'll need access to the specified email account to complete this process, of
course.

If you want to change the administrator password, and don't have access to the
email account for some reason, you can always re-run

[dspace]/bin/dspace create-administrator

This will recreate the administrator account with the newly provided
information.
