2014-09-08 Thread Yoseph Bizuneh
We are using xmlui interface (mirrage theme), we want to change the
logo to put our University logo, we installed dspace-4.2 on Debian 7
wheezy
where exactly should we edit in-order to change the logo?

Please post me step-by-steep instruction to do that.

[Dspace-tech] Handle server on Windows 2012 R2

2014-09-08 Thread Marko Višić
Hi,
we have Dspace 4.2 on Windows 2012 R2 and we tried to run the handle server
(with the command c:\dspace bin\dspace dsrun net.handle.server.Main
c:\dspace\handle-server) but it starts and then just immediately shuts down...

Error output:

We've already been in contact with the people at Handle System so we asked them
about it and they suggested we use the command:

java -Xmx256m -cp c:\dspace\lib\*;c:\dspace\config
-Ddspace.log.init.disable=true
-Dlog4j.configuration=log4j-handle-plugin.properties net.handle.server.Main
c:\dspace\handle-server

That command worked and the server successfully started...

I just wanted to ask if we've used the wrong dspace command in the first place
or maybe that's a Dspace bug on windows...?
Best regards,
Marko

Re: [Dspace-tech] DSpace SWORD and Drupal

2014-09-08 Thread Steinberg, Benjamin
We are depositing to DSpace with SWORDv2 from a Drupal webform, but it's
not a module -- it's PHP code called by the form's additional processing.
I know, it would be better as a module

We also have deposits coming in via SWORDv1 from OpenScholar websites.
OpenScholar (http://theopenscholar.org/) is a Drupal-based web publishing
service. I don't know much about how it works at the OpenScholar end, but
it looks like their citation_distribute module is the one to investigate:

Re: [Dspace-tech] Missing items in collection

2014-09-08 Thread Bill Tantzen
Well, I admit I'm not really clear on the big picture, but it looks to
me as if the problem is in SolrServiceImpl.java in writeDocument().
The clause that calls the solr extract handler does not seem to add
any of the record metadata without prepending 'literal.' to it --
specifically search.uniqueid!

If you ignore that section of code -- for instance if you dumbly
substitute the line

  if(falseCollectionUtils.isNotEmpty(streams))

for the original test on line 692, everything proceeds normally.

This is an addition since v4.1, and again, I'm not sure what is
supposed to be accomplished here but it doesn't seem to be working
quite right.

Any comments from the author(s)?

Cheers!
Bill

[Dspace-tech] Syncrhonization and central repository

2014-09-08 Thread Germán Biozzoli
Hi everybody

I'm asking if is there some way to maintain a remote repository completely
synchronized with a central one (both DSpace's), including changes in
communities/collection structure additionally to consume the items added.
I've seen a presentation that combines OAI-ORE and SWORD, anybody is doing
something like this?

Re: [Dspace-tech] Syncrhonization and central repository

2014-09-08 Thread Peter Dietz
Hi Germán,

Probably not what you were looking for, but if you control both servers,
why not give the second server access to the database and filesystem. You
could give it read only permissions.

But to support a fully automated replica mode I haven't seen that. But it
would be useful, especially if you wanted to guarantee a level of
preservation. (You would have to be cautious that someone deleting the
master node, would cascade and delete the slave/replica.)

Another option, depending on your use case, could be to use the rest API.
I've built a simple user interface that communicates via rest (rails,
play!), that let you build a remote user interface to the repository. You
could setup some type of mirror process that saves the data locally, though
not really DSpace anymore, just whatever is efficient for holding content.
I suppose one could build a population script that stashed that data that
you got from rest, and ingested it into the second DSpace.

The rest API won't give you ALL the information though, such as restricted
content, full users/ groups/ permissions.

[Dspace-tech] Authorizations

2014-09-08 Thread Keir Vaughan-Taylor
Using DSpace 4.1
I want to create a new group and then define access policies where say
all the items in a collection are viewable and by users in that group.

Using the AccessControl-Authorization menu then manage community and
manage collection policies I have tried adding Read, default_item_read
and also default bitstream_read but users in that new group cannot view
items already in the collection.

I can give access to users in the new group by placing the group in a
previously existing group that has access to all the items and then they
get access. The trouble is that previous give has attributes that I
don't want extended to this new group.

Its as though new policies won't extend to previously created objects.
Is there perhaps a way of forcing this through with SQL?

I tried the Advanced Policy manager only the utility seems to allow one
policy for any particular group. The Advance Policy Manager initially
appears with the action READ and even if the policy is changed the next
time it still appears with READ as the default action and no indication
of what a group might previously have been set to. Doesn't sem to work
anyway.

My basic need is to create a group and give access to all items in a
collection to persons in that group. Is there a technique to get this
working?

Re: [Dspace-tech] Authorizations

2014-09-08 Thread David Cook
Hi Keir:

That's exactly it. New policies don't extend to previously created items,
bundles, and bitstreams. If you look in the docs, there is a mention that
permissions don't commute.

The Advanced Policy manager is what you need. Really, it's not a manager
per se. It's just a tool that clears policies and adds policies in a batch
job. READ is the default for the dropdown menu, so it will always say
READ. It's a limited tool, but it's nicer than trying to work out all the
SQL yourself. I can assure you that it does work, at least in Dspace 4.2. I
was just using it yesterday to update permissions/authorizations for past
bitstreams.

The technique is just to create the group you want, add the e-people to it,
choose item (or bitstream), choose the collection, and then choose the
authorization you want to add. You'll need to do this multiple times if you
want to apply multiple actions (eg read, write, add, etc).

What problem are you encountering? I was stumped yesterday when I couldn't
update item metadata in the JSPUI, but I figured it out eventually. While I
had authorization for the item, I didn't have authorization for the
bitstream. The current JSPUI has a peculiarity (I would call it a bug) where
it updates item metadata and bitstream metadata at the same time. If you
want to get around that, fix your authorizations or use the XMLUI (which
separates out the item and bitstream metadata update pages).

By the way, Keir, I actually work just down the street from you. If you ever
want to chat Dspace, I'm happy to meet up or you can give me a call at 02
9212 0899. I am literally just a walk away ;).

[Dspace-tech] Registrations

2014-09-08 Thread rdiascampos
Hi.

I want to prevent people to do autoregistration in my test repository.

I couldn't understand how to use xmlui.user.registration.

In some old message in this list (helix84 | 10 Sep 15:34 2013) I found

a) You can disable registration in XMLUI completly by setting
"xmlui.user.registration=true" in [dspace]/config/dspace.cfg.

In dspace.cfg I can read

# Determine if new users should be allowed to register or edit their own metadata.
# These parameters are useful in conjunction with shibboleth where you want to
# disallow registration and disable the user's ability to edit their metadata
# because both come from Shibboleth.
#xmlui.user.registration=true
#xmlui.user.editmetadata=true

which seems to mean that true is the default that allows users to autoregister.

What would be the meaning of xmlui.user.registration=false?

Thanks.

It might be more helpful if you told us the problem you're trying to solve.

For example, we have HTTP and HTTPS views of our repository, which are simply
done using apache proxying.

[Dspace-tech] PDF puzzle

2014-09-08 Thread Keir Vaughan-Taylor
I have a number of publication submissions in some case where there are
multiple PDFs in one submission. Normally when accessing PDFs they
appear in the browser which is what I want.

In once instance there are multiple PDFs in a submission all of which
appear in a browser correctly but one of them instead presents an
external dialogue requesting what PDF reader should be used.

The format for all the PDFs is Adobe PDF The dublin_core.xml

There is a similar problem in the forums but no satisfactory answer
http://sourceforge.net/p/dspace/mailman/message/31873185/

Extractin strings from the offending PDF and comparing it to a well
behaved PDF elicits no obvious differences.

Has anyone discovered a reason for this?

Thanks for your considered reply.
I think part of my problem is that index was running at the time trying
to use the Advanced Policy menu and it have have been timing out at
times giving a system error. A little unsettling.

I went to lunch re-read your email checked the indexing was stopped and
tried again. this time it went through and the new group inherited the
desire permissions.

Thanks for the comments David and we should catch up for coffee.

a look at this configuration option for DSpace 4.2:
https://github.com/DSpace/DSpace/blob/master/dspace/config/dspace.cfg#L1447

You might like to read up on the Content-Disposition HTTP header:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1395151/content-dispositionwhat-are-the-differences-between-inline-and-attachment
Essentially, the DSpace setting decides from which size onwards it will
send disposition=attachment rather than disposition=inline

I believe some browsers / browser plug-ins ignore the
content-disposition flag and make their own decision on which one to use.
