[Dspace-tech] java heap error and how to disable discovery
Dear all 1. After upgrading dspace from 3.2 to 4.2 it is observed that java throws error of 'java heap error' though CATALINA_OPTS is set to export CATALINA_OPTS=-Xmx2048m -Xms512m -Dfile.encoding=UTF-8 -XX:MaxPermSize=128m in /etc/profile as well as in /etc/bash.bashrc earlier it was set with JAVA_OPTS but after changing it to CATALINA_OPTS the error messages reduced. Is the above line configuration correct for 4 GB RAM or anything else needs to be done to get rid of 'java heap error' messages. 2. Discovery also throws error of 'java null exception' if any anonymous user tries to browse/search/sort any records. How to sort out this issue. 3. Hello P. Hadadan, You might want to try out DSpace for yourself. We have a Demo version of it up and running at: http://demo.dspace.org/ You can login using any of the demo user accounts specified in the paragraph of text at the top of the Demo XMLUI or JSPUI interfaces: http://demo.dspace.org/xmlui/ http://demo.dspace.org/jspui/ (The demo acct emails are provided, passwords are all dspace). You also may wish to review the latest system documentation at: https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSDOC4x/DSpace+4.x+Documentation To answer your questions: 1. DSpace doesn't really have a resource type concept. It has Items, which include metadata. You can add new Items at any time. 2. DSpace *does* allow you to add new metadata fields to Items in the system. There are certain metadata fields provided by default, but you can add more as you wish. This is all managed in the Metadata Registry (which is editable by Administrative users). - Tim On 9/10/2014 2:40 AM, P.Hadadan (NW) wrote: Dear All, I'm already familiar with Dspace and want to explore its feature. Re: [Dspace-tech] Problem with solr statitsics not been updated
Hi, You probably should check your [dspace]/config/modules/discovery.cfg and [dspace]/config/modules/solr-statistics.cfg files for the value of search.server there. The first config is used by Discovery to connect to Solr (and used by that update-discovery-index command). The second is used by the Solr Statistics module. https://github.com/DSpace/DSpace/blob/dspace-3_x/dspace/config/modules/discovery.cfg#L8 https://github.com/DSpace/DSpace/blob/dspace-3_x/dspace/config/modules/solr-statistics.cfg#L12 My guess would be that the configuration in that file is incorrect, which would explain why it keeps resulting in a connection refused error. - Tim On 9/10/2014 8:46 AM, amutsik...@uzlib.uz.ac.zw wrote: I have been experiencing problems with my solr statistics not been updated. Re: [Dspace-tech] How to display the full title of queued items
Hi Guillermo, There are three instances of truncating the title to 50characters in that file. Just search for substring. https://github.com/DSpace/DSpace/blob/master/dspace-xmlui/src/main/java/org/dspace/app/xmlui/aspect/submission/Submissions.java It doesn't seem correct for Java to do the truncation to 50 characters. [Dspace-tech] DSpace 5: Dates and Features
Greetings from the DSpace 5.0 Release Team! We have another exciting release of DSpace in the works that has been growing steadily over the past few months. Many contributors have been busy adding new features and improvements to DSpace. This speaks volumes to the maturity, stability, and future of DSpace, that as the software project approaches its 12th year, we're still going strong. Read on for ways to help contribute, and find out the new features in DSpace 5. The full release schedule is here: https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACE/DSpace+Release+5.0+Status October 6: Deadline for Feature Pull Requests In plain English, October 6 is the last day you may submit new features for acceptance into DSpace 5.0. If you are working on a new feature for DSpace, we urge you to prepare a Pull Request now. Getting your work visible early as a Pull Request allows others to review, and help steer your contribution to inclusion in the next release. Here’s how: https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACE/Code+Contribution+Guidelines Other Important Dates: October 31 5.beta-1 - Release Candidate 1 November 03-14 Testathon (mark your calendar) November 20 5.beta-2 - Release Candidate 2 December (mid) DSpace 5.0 Release Of course, this also means we have a large pile of pull requests which need review, and other features that have been contributed but should still receive plenty of testing. We’d like to take a moment to call a few of those out, as they represent features we know are important to the community. If any of these features “speak to you” please consider pitching in with the review and testing work. The complete list of pull requests is here: https://github.com/dspace/dspace/pulls Six great new features in DSpace 5 We couldn't choose just 5 great new features in DSpace 5, here's six great features you should take a look at: DS-1461/DSPR#591 Batch Import Items from ZIP through UI https://github.com/dspace/dspace/pull/591 DS-1582/DSPR#629 Metadata for all DSpace objects (not just items) https://github.com/dspace/dspace/pull/629 DS-2061/DSPR#568 Linked Open Data for DSpace https://github.com/dspace/dspace/pull/568 DS-2049/PR#612 ORCID Integration https://github.com/DSpace/DSpace/pull/612 DS-2052/PR#587 Mirage2 Responsive Theme https://github.com/DSpace/DSpace/pull/587 DS-2108/PR#615 Google Analytics Statistics viewer (page views and downloads) https://github.com/DSpace/DSpace/pull/615 There are also many more great proposals for DSpace 5. The status page https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACE/DSpace+Release+5.0+Status has a full listing of things that we hope would make it in, contributions welcome. Lastly, we are still looking for more people to join the Release Team. Responsibilities include attending weekly developer meetings, reviewing pull requests, and ensuring requests get proper feedback and testing.
