Re: [Dspace-tech] [Dspace-general] Fwd: [LIS-Forum] DSpace Version Update with data Migration : Solution

2014-11-05 Thread helix84
Hello everyone,

please, note that DSpace 5, due to be released in December, will make
multi-version upgrades a little easier, so if you're planning one, you
may consider waiting for the release. DSpace 5 will do the database
upgrades from older versions automatically, thus removing many manual
steps. We want to ensure this new feature is well tested, so if you
have an old DSpace version, we invite you to test the migration of
your old DSpace database on a DSpace 5 release candidate installation
in a testing environment (I agree with Vinod that the recommended way
to upgrade a very old DSpace version is to make a fresh installation
of DSpace 5 and give it a copy of your old database, assetstore and
indexes, which it will upgrade). The DSpace 5 testathon will be soon
announced in a separate email.

[Dspace-tech] HiDPI favicon?

2014-11-05 Thread Alan Orth
I never noticed until I had a HiDPI screen (MacBook Pro with Retina
screen), but the default favicon for XMLUI and probably JSPUI is pretty low
definition.

Right now we're using 16x16 pixels, but we should be using something more
like 48x48 or even 128x128, see some examples:

https://medium.com/favicon.ico
https://wiki.duraspace.org/favicon.ico
https://www.google.com/favicon.ico
https://www.apple.com/favicon.ico

I'd make one myself but I'm not sure where the original came from...

Alan

Greetings:

You have to make sure to uncomment the following lines:

mail.extraproperties = mail.smtp.socketFactory.port=465, \

mail.smtp.socketFactory.class=javax.net.ssl.SSLSocketFactory, \
   mail.smtp.socketFactory.fallback=false

And also, enable your gmail account to accept connections, because sometimes
for security issues, gmail blocks any attempts of connections from unsafe
applications (DSpace included). If this happens Gmail will automatically
send you an email to let you know.

[Dspace-tech] Error running custom java scripts in 1.8.2

2014-11-05 Thread Avino, Thomas W. (LARC-B702)[LITES]

Ever since we upgraded Dspace 1.7.1 to 1.8.2, none of our custom java scripts
run (these are not overlays). I get the error below.
On our old Dspace, we put custom java code in the

directory (local was created by us). We never had any issues until the upgrade

Re: [Dspace-tech] Error running custom java scripts in 1.8.2

2014-11-05 Thread Stuart Yeates
The error message you are seeing is 100% consistent with dspace not being able
to find the correct jars.

There are two main options.

1 They haven't been compiled and copied over to the new build (look for them in
the directories of the new build)

2 The change to add them to the CLASSPATH is not present ('ps auxwww' should
tell you the full classpath that tomcat is using, look for the path you found
in (1))

cheers

[Dspace-tech] DSpace 5.0 Testathon begins Nov 10, 2014 -- Users / Feedback wanted

2014-11-05 Thread Pottinger, Hardy J.
From Hardy Pottinger, DSpace 5.0 Release Team Member

The first Release Candidate for DSpace 5.0 will be made available for testing
on November 6, 2014.
Some new features of interest include:

For all UIs:

 * Batch import from Zip files uploaded via the admin interface of either UI
 * Easier Database upgrades, thanks to the inclusion of Flyway, an open-source
database migration tool
 * A feature-complete REST API, supporting both read and write operations
 * Linked (Open) Data support
 * Metadata for all DSpace Objects
 * Improved thumbnail generation (via ImageMagick/Ghostscript)
 * Google Analytics integration now tracks downloads of bitstreams
 * A place to add third-party plugins

For JSPUI only:
 * HTML5-based drag and drop upload interface for uploading bitstreams during
submission
 * Per-item configurable visual indicators for browse and search results

For XMLUI only:
 * Mirage2 theme, utilizing many modern web design tools and technologies,
facilitating a responsive web design, adapting to any screen size
 * ORCID integration via an authority plugin, and a new authority cache
 * Serpa/Romeo lookup
 * Rendering MathML code in abstracts
 * Error pages (including page not found) are all styled with your own site
styles
 * Collection drop down box performance improvements for repositories with a
large number of collections
 * (Optional) ability to generate citation cover pages on PDFs
 * An aspect for adding Google Analytics web usage information to item pages

There's much more. Please see full list on the Release Status page at:

https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACE/DSpace+Release+5.0+Status

ATTENTION ORACLE SITES

Hi, sorry to shout at you, but now that we have your attention, please do plan
on testing the release candidates of DSpace 5.0 on your own infrastructure.
We'd like to minimize the surprises on the day that 5.0 is officially released,
and the best way to do that is with your help. If at all possible, please
consider testing DSpace 5.0, to ensure it is compatible with Oracle. Ideally,
this would mean testing a new install, and an upgrade. Thanks!

We've really improved our Oracle testing capabilities during this release
process, and that's something that makes me particularly proud. But, setting
pride aside, we still need your help to test DSpace 5.0.

INVITATION TO TRANSLATORS

If you are willing to translate DSpace message catalogs into another language:
the 5.0 catalogs should be nearly stable now.

TESTATHON and NEXT STEPS:

We plan to tag RC1 on Thursday November 6, 2014. There will be another
announcement when it is ready for download. If you would like to try out the
next release of DSpace in your own test environment, please do, and tell us
what you find.

The 5.0 Testathon begins on Monday, Nov. 10, 2014 and continues through Nov.
21. RC1 will be available on http://demo.dspace.org. You can try it out
without installing your own instance, and your feedback would be appreciated.
Look for the red Feedback button to report issues with the demo site.

As always, if you really want to get your hands dirty, you can spin up your own
testing instance of DSpace using Vagrant-DSpace:
https://github.com/DSpace/vagrant-dspace

The actual use of a software product is always more varied and surprising than
the developers and maintainers imagined. Please help us ensure that DSpace 5.0
will do what you expect. Thanks!

[Dspace-tech] Login fails when following my dspace link

2014-11-05 Thread Anthony Petryk
Hello,

JSPUI 4.0. Our users have reported not being able to login to DSpace when
following the my dspace link ([dpsace.url]/mydspace), in notification emails
for example. The browser is redirected to the login page (/password-login) but
the page just refreshes after clicking the submit button. We considered just
hard-coding the links in the email templates to /password-login (which work
fine for logging in), but other users have reported the same issue when trying
to access restricted bitstreams, so it's obviously not a problem specific to
mydspace.

Could this have something to do with secure pages? We have the following
security-constraint in our web.xml for the jspui webapp:

 url-pattern/password-login/url-pattern

Any help is appreciated.

[Dspace-tech] Search/Browse for redundant metadata

2014-11-05 Thread Jeffrey Sheldon
Folks,

We're migrating away from custom metadata fields in our DSpace 3.3 install and
I've been asked to provide both the old and new metadata in Search and Browse
conditions.

Specifically, here are two examples of old and new:

dc.contributor.author
dc.creator (standard)

dc.date.published
dc.date.issued (standard)

Without changing any settings to support the new (standardized) metadata
fields, batch uploads where dc.creator is used to hold author info means those
authors won't show up when browsing by author.

Likewise, items which use dc.date.issued rather than dc.date.published will
turn up in search results with empty dates associated with those items.

I can easily change every instance of dc.contributor.author and
dc.date.published in dspace.cfg with an index update (and database content
migration) for complete changeover. However, there's more at stake and I've
been asked not to do a full conversion so that it can be managed in stages.

There-in lies the problem. I have not been able to get two instances of
metadata fields to play nicely together in Browse and Search for publication
date and author. Is it even possible to configure for more than one instance?
From what I'm seeing, it looks like a one-to-one mapping.

Regards,
-Jeff
