[Dspace-tech] dspace item import

2007-07-09 Thread John Furfey
In the item import command, how does one specify the handle? I don't
want the system to generate a new one, I want to use an existing one.

Thanks.

[Dspace-tech] Statistics Question

2008-01-04 Thread John Furfey

Hello,

We've been experiencing some problems with our statistics for a while
now. Here are a few symptoms:

1. General report only shows about 10 weeks of data, keeps cutting
off the older stuff
2. Monthly reports follow this pattern, as only the most recent 3
months have data, the rest show all zeros

3. Presently, our general report cuts off at 12/30, no 2008 data
4. Monthly report for 1/2008 is all zeros, with the exception of the
'Archive Information' section

The systems administrator who set up this installation, has since
moved on, and we're trying to get our stats back on track. Two
questions:

1. I notice that in addition to stat-monthly, stat-general, stat-
report-monthly & stat-report-general running as a cron each night,
stat-initial & stat-report-initial are also running each night.
Should these initial jobs be running each night?

2. At this point would it be best to just rebuild statistics as if
we were bringing up a new installation? All log data would be
preserved, just the reports would be overwritten, correct?

Thanks for any advice.

[Dspace-tech] RSS feeds

2008-01-10 Thread John Furfey
Is is possible to configure feeds in Dspace to push out a 'smarter'
feed?

Such as described here:  http://web.resource.org/rss/1.0/modules/dc/

We're interested in being able to see the DC tags in the RSS.

Thanks.

[Dspace-tech] statistics error

2008-04-30 Thread John Furfey

Just discovered a new problem with our statistics this morning.

https://www.mydspace.org/statistics is returning an error page that
I've never seen before.

"Internal System Error - The system has experienced an internal
error. Please try do what you were doing again, and if the problem
persists, please contact us so we can fix the problem."

I am able to manually navigate to monthly stat reports, and they look
normal. It's just a problem with the "Most recent general report".
I've the [dspace]/logs and [dspace]/reports and all necessary files
were generated by cron this morning. I also restarted tomcat.

Any ideas?

[Dspace-tech] Moving to a new server

[Dspace-tech] migrate data to 1.5

2008-08-01 Thread John Furfey
We're in the process of upgrading from 1.4.2 to 1.5, and we're also
moving to a new server.

We've got 1.5 up and running and we're trying to figure out the best
way of migrating our data. Is it possible to do a pg_dump from the
1.4.2 server and do a pg_restore on the 1.5 server? Or will 1.5's
new db schema prevent this?

Thanks for any response, I have not been able to find any
documentation for this scenario.

[Dspace-tech] bitstream import on 1.4.2

2009-01-13 Thread John Furfey
Hello,

Is there a way on 1.4.2 to import a bitstream and add it to an
existing record from the command line?

Our config file indicates that we should be able to upload items as
big as 512 MB, but the UI keeps timing out when we try to add a 135MB
bitstream to this record. In the past, we've gotten around this by
using the Item Importer, but that was with complete item packages. In
this case, I'm just looking to bring in an additional bitstream file.

Thanks for any guidance.

Hi John,

during upgrade, did you run database_schema_14-15.sql as indicated in the
docs. This will create the language column in eperson, see

alter table eperson add column language VARCHAR(64);
update eperson set language = 'en';

Hope that helps

[Dspace-tech] rolling back a patch: database_schema_13-14.sql

2009-01-23 Thread John Furfey
I erred in applying the above patch to a 1.4 system, and the results are that
now there are duplicate metadata fields for each item view. Example:

Issue Date: Oct-2007
Oct-2007

Abstract: Conference presentations from IAMSLIC Conference and SAIL Meeting
held October 7-11 2007 in Sarasota, Florida, USA.
Conference presentations from IAMSLIC Conference and SAIL Meeting held October
7-11 2007 in Sarasota, Florida, USA.

Is there an easy way to rollback a patch, or is it better to restore the db
from a backup?

Thanks.

I tend to agree with Dorothea on this one. I suspect it will be
difficult to roll back all the changes unless someone out there knows
how to magically unto completed transactions. If you can restore from
backup that would possibly be the safest decision. Otherwise,
reviewing the file, I see the following changes That I suspect would
duplicate table rows...

-- Migrate the existing DCTypes into the new metadata field registry
INSERT INTO MetadataFieldRegistry
(metadata_schema_id, metadata_field_id, element, qualifier, scope_note)
SELECT '1' AS metadata_schema_id, dc_type_id, element,
qualifier, scope_note FROM dctyperegistry;

-- Copy the DCValues into the new MetadataValue table
INSERT INTO MetadataValue (item_id, metadata_field_id, text_value,
text_lang, place)
SELECT item_id, dc_type_id, text_value, text_lang, place FROM dcvalue;

These will duplicate rows in the MetadataFieldRegistry and duplicate
copy DCValues into the MetadataValueTable. I assume that is where your
duplication is occurring.

I might also be concerned about your bistream sizes now with the
following update:

ALTER TABLE bitstream ADD COLUMN size_bytes BIGINT;
UPDATE bitstream SET size_bytes = size;
ALTER TABLE bitstream DROP COLUMN size;

Finally, I think if your using the ChecksumChecker, you might
encounter issues with duplicates in your checker tables caused by many
inserts into them as well.

If you haven't had any changes you need to maintain today, I would try
to recovre from a db backup instead of having to do surgery.

Re: [Dspace-tech] WHIP Announcement web page 2009

2009-02-13 Thread John Furfey
Judi,

I can update this page, but I'm unfamiliar with WHIP. Do you have the link to
the registration site? I'm assuming that you want the 'not open yet' message
replaced with a link to register.

[Dspace-tech] Importing Items

2007-03-02 Thread John Furfey
Hello all,

We're just beginning to investigate the importing functionality of
dspace and I can't seem to find any good documentation.

I'm assuming that I'll need to give dspace some sort of xml document
containing the metadata, and the item itself. What's the best way of
getting started, any good resources out there?

Thanks,
John

[Dspace-tech] mapfile

We've just begun to experiment with the itemimporter and I'm wondering
what the 'mapfile' is. I'm brand new to dspace.
