Re: [Dspace-tech] DSpace 3.2 customize reporting

2014-04-08 Thread LifeH2O
Thank you very much Terry Brady. It looks great. And stats is only a part of
this system. It is great to see that we can finally have full admin control
on DSpace over the web. Now to run it along DSpace installation what method
did you use. I found Quercus, PHP/Java Bridge and this
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/779246/run-a-php-app-using-tomcat

Which one did you use or think the best way to do that?

[Dspace-tech] DSpace 3.2 customize reporting

2014-04-06 Thread LifeH2O
We need to customize reporting/statistics (no of uploads by a user, most
accessed collection, etc. etc.) But SOLR

can only be used locally.

What is the best way to do that? We were thinking about Jasper reports or
using a desktop application that can generate reports from database. But why
do that if SOLR can do it already.

Re: [Dspace-tech] dspace instance copy/mirror

2014-03-04 Thread LifeH2O
I copied it in a few simple steps.

>From old machine
1) Copied complete DSpace directory
2) Exported database
3) Copied Tomcat Settings

On new machine:
4) Imported Database
5) Pasted DSpace to same directory as old machine

And it is working fine. Is there anything wrong in this process? Does DSpace
provide a standard way to do that?

[Dspace-tech] Mathematical formulas support

2013-09-06 Thread LifeH2O
Abstracts can have mathematical formulas but it is a simple text area.

We thought about TinyMCE but it is ugly as we need to upload images of
formulas separately. Best solution would be to use editor which can convert
pasted formulas from word (in our cse) in TeX format but displays them as
proper equation.

Also how to display the equations when viewing an item is another issue.

Also what will happen to indexing when this TeX gibberish will be added
inside abstract?

Any ideas?

[Dspace-tech] Add New E-Person from Administrator is useless

2013-07-29 Thread LifeH2O
DSpace v3.1 (JSPUI)

There is an "Add EPerson" button in "Administer EPeople" section. I want to
create a new user who can log in. I click on [Add EPerson], write email and
other info, check "Can Log in" box. And press save.

*It doesn't make sense.*

The email is sent to the email address 'newuserXX' as soon as I press [Add
EPerson] button. While it should be sent only to the specified email address
when [Save] is clicked.

What is the purpose of *Can Log In* check box when we cannot set the
password?? There is no way the newly created user can log in (he can perhaps
login via forget password system).

*Create New Users from Administrator Panel*
We did this by using "dspace create-administrator" command and then changing
the rights of the newly created admin

Then this is something that DSpace lack. Authors are just a field but the
feel like separate entity while using DSpace. For now we have done an ugly

Can authority control do this? In this video
   they selected authors from a separate
record.

[Dspace-tech] Dspace Date with Time control

2013-06-27 Thread LifeH2O
DSpace JSPUI v3.1

In DSpace currently there is a date control which has only Year, Month and
Day fields. We need Hour and Minute for time as well.
We have tried editing edit-metadata.jsp like this

.append(LocaleSupport.getLocalizedMessage(pageContext,
"jsp.submit.edit-metadata.hour"))
.append("0)
sb.append("_").append(i);
 if (readonly)
 {
 sb.append("\" disabled=\"disabled");
 }
 sb.append( "\" size=\"4\" maxlength=\"4\" value=\"" )
.append((dateIssued.getHour() > 0 ?
 String.valueOf(dateIssued.getHour()) : "" ))
.append("\"/>");

It added another textBox for Hour but didn't store it or perhaps didn't
retrieve it back.

[Dspace-tech] Email notification to existing specified users only

We are making system for university. When a student submits his report with
adviser and co-adviser names, only the adviser/co-adviser should be notified
by email to accept/reject/edit submission.

What we want is that while submitting advisor should be selected in drop
down (or suggested while typing). So only the advisors who already exist in
the system can be selected. When item submission completes only those
selected advisors should be emailed. Not the whole group in workflow who can
accept/reject.

2013-06-10 Thread LifeH2O
Both old and new system are running on the same server. After setting solr
for DSpace 3.1, old dspace was giving the forbidden request error

I solved it in DSpace 3.1 by changing 'our site url' to 'localhost' in
solr-statistics.cfg
server = http://localhost/solr/statistics

I did the same for DSpace 1.6 by doing this
#solr.log.server = ${dspace.baseUrl}/solr/statistics
http://localhost/solr/statistics

Now solr of DSpace 3.1 is being used for both systems at a time. Is it a bad
thing? We don't have source code available for Dspace 1.6, therefore cannot
just comment out solr code.

Re: [Dspace-tech] How "bi_private" table and sequence are missing?

2013-06-05 Thread LifeH2O
@Helix I did ran index-init in fact. Also index-init -f after emptying
[dspace]/search/ directory didn't help.

@Andrea Thankyou for detailed help and explanation.
The resource_id of the item with handle 123456789/395 is 464
And the owning_collection=12 where item_id=464
And the problem is that there is no collection with id 12

What happened was that in previous version we had a different collection,
community structure. To migrate items to new structure, we replaced old
collection ids with newer ones in collection2item table. We didn't knew
about this table. So the owning_collection column contain all old entries.

I replaced the owning_collection values with the new collections and items
are opening fine. Thank you.

For solr, I placed the solr.xml in both C:\Tomcat
7.0\work\Catalina\localhost and C:\Tomcat 7.0\conf\Catalina\localhost but it
is still not working.

I ran init-index after stopping tomcat. Unfortunately I forgot making backup
of existing index. Now I am unable to open any item. When I click to open,
it keeps loading. There are two exceptions I am seeing in dspace.log. Solr
refused connection and another. Solr exception looks irrelevant. It occurred
long before opening an item.

Here is the exception log that I get when trying to open an item.

[Dspace-tech] How "bi_private" table and sequence are missing?

2013-06-03 Thread LifeH2O
We upgraded DSpace 1.6 to DSpace 3.1 using existing database of 1.6

After running upgrade scripts, while deleting a submission in progress, we
found that table "bi_private" and sequence "bi_private_seq" were missing.

To solve this issue we added these two by importing them from DSpace 3.1
installation.

We didn't find code to create "bi_private" in who DSpace source code. Why???
Also this code should have been added in upgrade scripts. How "bi_private"
table is created???

2. Edited workflow.xml by duplicating "editstep" in default workflow and as
result created 4 step workflow.

[Dspace-tech] How to Add more than 3 Workflow Steps?

2013-04-05 Thread LifeH2O
*Version: DSpace 3.1 (JSPUI)*

By default DSpace allows 3 workflow steps (I might not have understood it
correctly). Each perform different operations. How to add 4 or 5 or more
steps before submission? Let say I want to add 5 people each with
Accept/Reject/Edit priveleges in a sequence in submission workflow??

Re: [Dspace-tech] LDAP is not enabling

2013-02-20 Thread LifeH2O
After emailing, I tried tracing the issue again. Found the bug. Corrected
it and made a pull request (I am not sure if that is the right way to do).

getBooleanProperty("ldap.enable"); was searching for ldap.enable in
dspace.cfg instead of its own file.
