Will I need a real (static) IP? You don't need a static IP. But an IP that doesn't change very often is a good thing. Having a static IP makes it easier for management purposes ... for VPN tunnel, ssh, etc. As for the WRT52GS device: will it allow you to set the net mask on the trusted side to /8? That is: 255.0.0.0 A lot of the inexpensive home/consumer firewall routers don't (properly) support the 10.0.0.0/8 network you need on the trusted ports. Bob W1QA

I have a WRT52GS (Firmware Version: v4.71.1, I don't believe Linksys made a WRT52GS. You probably have a WRT54GS. As for the WRT52GS device: will it allow you to set the net mask on the trusted side to /8? That is: 255.0.0.0 A lot of the inexpensive home/consumer firewall routers don't (properly) support the 10.0.0.0/8 network you need on the trusted ports. I doubt Hyperwrt supports this, but it's possible. However, the dd-wrt firmware does and that is what almost all of us using Linksys routers on our gateways have loaded. Since you were familiar with Hyperwrt, you may already be familiar with dd-wrt. How you load dd-wrt on a WRT54GS depends on the HARDWARE version (check the bottom label). Click on WRT54GS in the list at the top of the http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Supported_Devices page. You only need the mini version to run the ICOM gateway, not the full or any other variants. 73 -- John

[DSTAR_DIGITAL] Re: Repeater question
Thanks to everyone who answered my question. It sounds like a small 2m beam is my best bet to hit my local repeater and check into their Sunday night net on port C. I do have a DV Dongle, but I prefer to come in via RF if at all possible. I presume that the broadcast to all modules feature of D-Plus is a mode that the system admin has to set up. Is that correct? 73, Ned Raybould N8OIF
RE: [DSTAR_DIGITAL] Re: Repeater question
It's a built-in, and I don't believe there's any way for the local Gateway admin to turn that feature on and off. http://www.opendstar.org/tools/readme.txt If D-Plus is installed (virtually all US systems and most others, but not in Japan), it should do it. Easy to test locally with a pair of rigs. or a friend on the phone on a different module. just to make sure it works before you change your Net format to utilize it. Some people use it as a way to do a local CQ on all modules also. WY0X calling CQ on all modules of W0CDS, listening on Port Bravo. Then someone listening say, on an ID-1 who doesn't have VHF/UHF, would be able to reply via many methods. as one useful example. Ohhh. is it busted right now? I think I remember seeing that from Robin, maybe. now that you mention it Steve. I last REALLY used it months ago, so. I'll have to go test. Try UR=CQCQCQ and RPT1= The repeater call and band you are on, and RPT2=The local repeater call and band you want to come out on. This works without a gateway. nu5d Nate Duehr wrote: It's a built-in, and I don't believe there's any way for the local Gateway admin to turn that feature on and off. Re: [DSTAR_DIGITAL] Re: Easy way to reply to CQ from Japanese station.
It might be a good idea to try with a JA callsign which is not registered in the US gateway. I think you entered your callsign into one of them to get your dongle work. I am not pretty sure, but unless jarl, icom or whoever admin made a good progress behind the scene, it might have something to do. 73, -- JI1BQW - Kay Ishikawa --- Original Message --- On Wed, 08 Apr 2009 12:10:17 - Y.Kawabe tiarad...@yahoo.com wrote: Everyone in Japan apparently arrives via 4-land.
