Still no three-band mobile or handheld.

Have to go with Kenwood TM-741 and Satoshi's DV Adapter then to be able
to talk D-STAR on all three bands.

I have the 91ad. I've just downloaded the software, and am trying to install

what happens after you download the file. The reason for such excitement is
that i am totaly blind, and this rs91 software that I am using is not verry
useful. I can kinda sorta edit memories, but as for having any kind of
functionality it doesn't. The idea of an alternative really has me excited
particularly if I can use the thing!!!

Okay I have the software installed, and when I use the csvdump.exe file. I am
not seeing a good gui. What kind of graphics are you using? Are they bitmap
graphics? If so can you make this a windows standard diwlogue? This would
make it easier for those who are totaly blind to use.

Assuming you're on Windows, there is a csvdump.exe in the zip file. Run
that and you'll get a GUI that lets you select your radio and serial
port. With the 91AD, you can go straight to the bottom and choose a
filename and hit export to dump it out.

The reason for such excitement is that i am totaly blind, and this

Well, I should point out that there is also a command-line tool in the
package that lets you do things without a GUI. Right now, it doesn't
have an option to dump the data to CSV, but I'll gladly add it. It's
the chirp.exe binary in the zip file. If you're comfortable running
that from a command-line, it may work better for you with a screen reader.

What call sign data that is presented doesn't matter. It is nothing of use
anyway. If you can determine what box you've checked, or which combo box you
are in, mainly using gateways etc, then you've got the gist of using the
dongle. The only box that isn't labeled thus far is the box that you would use
if you wanted to connect pier-pier, and I'll bet AA4RC could get that taken
care of.

Understand you got the dongle to work with JAWS? I'm curious how because even
with the Java access

JAWS did not pick up all the data in the data fields. What else did you do to

far, and I hope that d-star continues to grow. I'd like to seesome d-star on
radio classes where newcommers to the d-star area of our hobby can go to learn
about what their radio, and d-star can do. Is that possible? o

The bottom line is that you don't use the dial. If you are in memory mode,
then you can use 001, 002, 010-100 to access various memory locations. It
would be nice if the radio had a beep at channel 1 like the kenwood thf6...

Justin, thank you also for your timely response ...
I've not played with a 91, and in fact I've not had a chance to play
with MY 92AD since I lent it to ANOTHER friend while we are testing
  the repeater.
Being sighted, I have the disadvantage of relying on seeing when I am
on channel 1 for example. If I recall correctly, there isn't a hard
stop to tell you when you are on the first channel for reference, so
how do YOU know where you are starting from?
I DO program with the software, and have perhaps 10 entries for a
given repeater, with each entry having a different URCALL, from
CQCQCQ to WY0X, depending on who I want to reach.

  Thanks for the tips,
  Dave

It taikes some getting used to... The one thing that could be implemented is a
hard fast way of knowing whether you are hitting a d-star repeater when you are
transmitting. possibly a curtisy beep or something...

2008-07-11 Thread Justin Mann
Hi there,
I am totally blind, and i have a 91ad, and so far I've not had much difficulty
getting the rig to work. The key to making any of these radios work is that
you have to program them using the software. Then, you have to set each memory
location to a speciffic call sign, and/or repeater. so forinstance this is
how I have my setup starting with channel 1
mem 1: 440.8125 urcall :cqcqcqcq rpt1 w7mot b rpt2 w7mot g
mem2:
urcall: /w7mot a rpt1 w7mot b rpt2: w7mot g
I hope that makes some sense. Each memory has the same freq/offset, but just
different urcalls, and the repeater1, and repeater2
