RE: [HCDX] Radio Farda QSLing

2003-07-11 Thread Andy Sennitt
A quick search on Google produced this post by Bob Coombs to this very list
on 18 Feb 2003:

Received a email verification of my Saturday (2-16-03) report in three
days from Radio Farda today. Send reports via their comment feedback
address on their website (www.radiofarda.com). They do not have Qsl
cards available as of yet. EQSL better than nothing I guess!.

[HCDX] Iraqi Republic Radio - the voice of the Iraqi people

2003-03-28 Thread Andy Sennitt
got the ID ...remember that one started in 1991 during the first gulf
war..used to pick them up on 11710 and 9570..this one is // 9570 kHz.

Just in from Tarek in Egypt:

"19.00 UTC I picked the Iraqi Republic Radio - the voice of the Iraqi
people.
with the news and ID on a new frequency, 4785kHz first time to hear it on
this freq. used to hear it mainly on 11710 and 9570...if I'm not wrong...
still remember when this station started in 1991 they used to play only
songs for 2 hours no IDs at all I was really confused about this one till
they came up with this confusing ID..Idhaat algomhuriya al Iraqiya - sout al
shaab aliraqi. around that time the ID of the official Baghdad radio was
the same..till baghdad changed it's ID to Idhaat jomhuriyat AL IRAQ.
it may not catch your ears the difference but around that time it was
really REALLY confusing."

[HCDX] Information Radio on 4500 kHz

2003-03-28 Thread Andy Sennitt
Tarek Zeidan in Cairo found Information Radio on 4500 kHz this evening. It's
coming in well in The Netherlands. I have put a 2 minute audio clip online.
you'll find the link at the bottom of this page:

Another frequency to check is 6175 kHz. Vladimir Titarev heard them there in
parallel with 11787 between 0500 and 0800 this morning.

RE: [HCDX] Baghdad 11787

2003-03-21 Thread Andy Sennitt
There was actually some modulation today, but very, very low and only
perceptible on music peaks and occasional voice peaks. The transmitter goes
off the air around 1300 UTC and returns around 1600 UTC - that has been the
case for the past two days. The carrier is strong here in The Netherlands,
but you need to use USB mode to avoid Cairo on 11785. Very briefly this
evening the modulation improved enough for me to make a short recording.
Shortly afterwards I also recorded Information Radio on 9715, which was
running neck and neck with DW Russian, and occasionally overriding it! Links
to both files plus today's BBC Monitoring observations are in our Iraq media
dossier at http://www.rnw.nl/realradio/features/html/iraq030319.html

Fair enough, then the information I had was wrong. I just passed on what I
was told :-)

Thanks for the correction, Alf.

What gives is that you are not familiar with Farsi pronunciation. In the
Farsi language, the final a is pronounced more like our letter o. And I dare
say they have regional accents too. Similarly, the Dutch pronounce Amsterdam
a lot different to the way American's say it :-)

Indeed it is, and we made a recording in Hilversum at 1635 UTC yesterday.
You can hear a 3 minute Real Audio file by clicking on the link at
http://www.rnw.nl/realradio/html/medianews.html

The same audio file is also available www.clandestineradio.com, with whom we
work closely.

The UK media have picked up on this story. Nick Grace of CRW was interviewed
about it on this morning's edition of Up All Night on BBC 5 Live.

Hmm...that will likely confuse people some more. The station that Radio
Farda will replace is Radio *Azadi*, not Radio Azada and certainly not Radio
Azeri :-)

Well, I wouldn't use the word amazing, as the closure was widely predicted
in the press over the past few weeks, and in Media Network :-)
Interestingly, a friend who tried to contact them received an E-mail that
said:

"TEAMtalk252 is no longer available as a radio service.
Control of the frequency has been passed back to RTE Ireland."

However, there are reported to be some UK broadcasters interested in using
the frequency, so I doubt it will be silent for long...

[HCDX] RTE to buy TeamTalk 252?

2002-08-02 Thread Andy Sennitt

Here's the official announcement:

Disposal of interest in radio business

The board of ukbetting plc is pleased to announce that it has agreed in
principle to dispose of TEAMtalk Media Group plc's ('TEAMtalk') indirect 80%
shareholding in Radio Tara Limited for a nominal consideration to Radio
Telefis
Eireann ('RTE'), which owns the remaining 20% shareholding. TEAMtalk and RTE
have entered into exclusive negotiations with a view to completing the
transaction at the earliest opportunity. As part of the agreement TEAMtalk
252
will cease broadcasting with immediate effect.

The 80% shareholding in Radio Tara Limited was acquired by TEAMtalk in
December
2001 for a consideration of GBP 2.0 million. Since its acquisition Radio
Tara
Limited has lost approximately 60% of its weekly reach according to RAJAR
figures as at 31 March 2002. Radio Tara Limited has also incurred unaudited
pre-tax losses of GBP 2.2 million since its acquisition. The disposal of
this
shareholding will stem a significant cash drain on the TEAMtalk business.
