As I pointed out elsewhere, this transmitter is very likely the same as on 7200
after 1900. Today, modulation is better at least for the music bits. As

Saut Afrikya min Idaa-tu Sudanya and in French: La Voix du Soudan,
  Radio National du Soudan

was 0500-0800 and 1400-1500, it could have been of course also via the same
transmitter - Sudan on 7200 was only observed 0230-0430v and ?-2200v recently.
Of course, VOSSRR might have been also via this transmitter. However I do not
remember reports of weak modulation for these transmissions.

[HCDX] UNID National Anthem on 594 khz

2010-01-15 Thread mvarnhem
Since some time I am monitoring 594 khz after the German station HR left the
frequency.

Often I hear at 1600UTC an UNID station with a National Anthem.

Radio Horizont, Bulgaria gives moderate reception on this frequeny at that
time mixing with other stations on the frequency. Before 1600UTC I also
heard Arabic music and songs.

I suppose after the NA, the station signs off, because R Horizont reception
improves.

A recording can be heard on:

http://webdisk.planet.nl/mvarnhem/publiek/album/594%20NA.MP3

I am anxious to know which NA and station this can be.

[HCDX] UNID language 1566 khz

2007-11-04 Thread mvarnhem
Saturday around 1905UTC I was listening to HLAZ Jeju on 1566 khz.

The signal was good, but had some fading. In this moment of fading I heard
an other station ( male talking) of which I don't think it is AIR Nagpur.

The language sounds very unfamiliar to me, but can be an African language?
If it is an African language, can it be TWR Benin?

You can hear a recording on:

 http://webdisk.planet.nl/mvarnhem/publiek/album/UNID%201566.mp3
http://webdisk.planet.nl/mvarnhem/publiek/album/UNID%201566.mp3

It starts with rlg songs = HLAZ S Korea

Than you hear the UNID language, especially well audible during a short
silence of HLAZ, than again HLAZ gets stronger with Korean.

Anybody has a suggestion?

Hallo Jari,
On the 7th of Feb I phoned Maarten van Delft here in The Netherlands, who
told me about his interesting reception that afternoon.

9223USB 1600-1610UTC: non-native English messages, probably pre-recorded
with warning against involvement in pirate actions off Somalia. If you want
a long happy life with your family, stop taking part in these illegal
actions. We know who you are and where to find you. Several times the
Coalition Maritime Forces were mentioned and a telephone number and e-mail
address in Bahrain with a request to give information about these pirates.

This was in English and very similar to your observations.
Quite interesting!!

Re: [HCDX] Radio Borivo on 830 kHz

2006-01-24 Thread mvarnhem
Hallo Hannu,
On 830 a station from San Antonio de los Altos (Caracas) Venezuela is
transmitting ; however it identifies as Radio Sensacion.

Hi there!

During my recent Dx-pedition KIVES5 in Finland, on 12th January I was able
to catch a Spanish language station on 830 kHz around 0300 UTC/GMT. It
sounded like Radio Borivo to me. The station had lots of commercial
announcements, one of them was San Antonio de los Alto. The program
consisted of sports phone-in-talk and several commercials.

Does anyone know, what this one could be? I also heard a Brazilian station
on the same frequency later. Any clues are welcomed.

Thanks.

This is a transmission of the programme of ABC Perth, Australia (720 AM)
according to an ID I heard two days ago.

Is it already clear who is transmitting these signals?
(WUN president Ary Boender informed me that the Australian Navy is 1,5 khz

[HCDX] Radio Farda 1575

So, 1575 is a new frequency from Dhabbiya, UAE?

This weekend I returned from a one week DXpedition in Northern Denmark.
During this week we also heard Radio Farda on 1575 khz with strong signals.
In Herman Boel's Mediumwave list we found that Kuwait is testing on 1575
khz, so we presumed the origine of these transmissions is Kuwait.
Is the location UAE confirmed or also still presumed?
We also heard Radio Asia on 1557 khz. Strange enough we didn't hear WYFR
Taiwan on this frequency.

[HCDX] Radio Sawa/VOA reply

2005-01-04 Thread mvarnhem
In April 2003 I send a reception report to Radio Sawa Jibuti Mediumwave to

330 Independence Avenue SW, Washington DC 20237, USA.

Today I received a standard letter + VOA sticker from the VOA Audience Mail
Dept at the same postal address informing me that they regret they don't
have a program guide available. They wrote they will add my name to a
mailing list for the new guide.

Nice, such Audience Mail Department..

RE: [HCDX] Re: Tropical SW Bands Virtually Empty

2004-12-03 Thread mvarnhem
We all will agree about the much quieter tropical bands.
However, when reading the loggings of the DXers in the USA and those of
European DXers I have the impression that the American DXer is luckier in
receiving these stations.
The US DXers still hear stations which we also could hear in Europe quite
easily in the past but hardly are heard here in Europe anymore.
In October I was on Curacao, Netherlands Antilles and I could hear many
tropical band stations from Latin America.
So, these stations still exist and are also still heard in the USA but are
difficult to be heard here in Europe.
Do we have to wait till quieter conditions on the sun or are other
parameters involved?

I would agree that the tropical bands are not as active as they were in the
late-70s through about 1990 when I was much more active in TB DXing. Not to
say that they are dead but they are much quieter (except for WWCR. WWRB and
the like!!!) than they were when I started DXing in 1976. No real surprise
here, as we will continue to see FM radio take over more from SW in the
years to come, IMO.
