[DX-CHAT] LOTW confirm dates?

2003-10-06 Thread Charles Harpole
Haven't used it yet, but can anyone tell me this abt LOTW:

What if your QSO time differs from the time in the DX log record? How much
difference in time will the system accept if any??? What about differing
dates ???

Thanks, 73,

Charles Harpole

[DX-CHAT] callsign vs. LOTW bottomline

2003-10-06 Thread litwins
Regarding the issue as to where to put the portable callsign identifier
(before or after the home call)...the word from LOTW is to request 2
certificates...one with the portable location before and the 2nd with the
portable identifier after (if u are in doubt) ...and sign the same log with
both and submit both logs. This will assure that the guys u worked from the
portable location, no matter how it was entered into their log, will get the
credit for their Q. 73/dx

Re: [DX-CHAT] Only Mother Nature Knows

2003-10-06 Thread N4KG
Most 'simplistic' propagation programs do NOT do a good job of predicting
Long Path (or Low Band) propagation.

I find that Terminator Maps such as The DX Edge or the MAP protion of W6EL
Prop combined with a knowledge of how Low Band Propagation works is much more
useful.

Hello
i feel that it is TOO soon to speculate why they have shut down.
there could well be a multitude of reasons apart from a yl problem
remember this is africa where dashing (tipping)is a way of life maybe
they gave more to one than another.let us wait and here it from the
horses mouth when they are back home safe and sound.by the way i never
managed to work them .lets hope there will be another op and that the
problem that has arisen is not unsurmountable.

RE: [DX-CHAT] Ref: IonCap Prop

2003-10-06 Thread Dave Bernstein
WinME is the one version of Windows not supported by any DXLab
application -- its just too full of defects.

That said, PropView will probably run on WinME without difficulty.

PropView, which utilizes the IONCAP engine, accurately predicted the 20m
longpath opening from the US East Coast to VK9/X. Its free, and
available via www.qsl.net/dxlab .

Last few days, I been tinkering with W6EL Prop trying to get
it to spew forth some LP Prop from VK9/X to NC.

Skewed the solar indices up an down, inside and out.
Added gain to my vertical, lowered the radiation angle. Decreased the
path loss, still no LP

Sunday PM around 2330 UTC, VK9XN Long Paths to the
East Coast and Mid-West...Ha !!

Speaking of Mother Nature - trouble in 3C - probably had something to do
with a woman. Don't get me wrong ladies. Women themself are usually no
problem. It's the men who usually cause the problems. General Patton had
a whole Army of men, and he knew all about "bad problems" with women and
men. President Truman, you know, was very insecure about his presidency.
He was always worried that
after the war, some retired General would beat him out of a term. I have
often wondered if Patton's car accident leaving Great Britain was just a
fluke, or Truman had his brakes tinkered with.

Truman was especially worried about the General with the corn-cob pipe
who was in charge of the post WWII military to civilian transitionary
government in Japan. This General who had no political ambitions still
holds the record for the largest ever ticker-tape parade in NYC. This
General also knew about "bad problems". Well.maybe we shall soon
find out what happened that was "very bad" in 3C. Truman also found out
about a General he wan't even worried about, some guy by the name of
Isenhower.
