T8 was definitely used in 1997 (T88JA in March 1997 for instance), but
I don't know how much earlier.

  Hi,
  Found this in the Bulletin:

  *The Ohio/Penn Dx PacketCluster
  DX Bulletin No. 275
  BID: $OPDX.275
  *October 21, 1996
  snip
*T8, REP. OF BELAU (ATTENTION PREFIX HUNTERS!). *Jim Hood, WV5S,
President of the Oklahoma DX Association has informed the DX/Contest
community of the following statement: In 1994, Belau (Palau) declared
its independence from the USA. Consequently, the KC6 prefix needed to be
replaced by a new unassigned prefix. The prefix T8 has been assigned to
Belau. Oklahoma DX Association members N5OK and N5CG have now activated
the T8 prefix for the first time as T88T.

  Hope this helps.

2009-11-30 Thread Urb LeJeune

Folks,

Please move this discussion to DX-CHAT

From the DXCC PX cross reference: KC6 (before 1998) = T8

There were two KC6 countries, Eastern and Western Carolines.

1981.

T8 may have been one of the many prefixes used by South African
homelands, i.e.:

S4 (Ciskei) = ZS
S8 (Transkei) = ZS
T4 (Venda) = ZS
H5 (Bophutatswana) = ZS
V9 (Venda) = ZS

(ref: http://www.arrl.org/awards/dxcc/prefix_refs.html)

But that's just speculation.

T8 was used from Seborga starting May 1995

(ref: http://freenet-homepage.de/dl8aam/Seborga.html)

T8 was allocated by the ITU to Palau in 1996 (see above reference).

I think that T8UZA is a busted call. I found a 1994 QSO with I8UZA in
my log, and I could be mistaken for T if hand-written.

p.s. I have an extensive list of KC6 calls that were used from W.
Caroline/Palau, send me yours and I'll cross-check.

I didn't think Palau had the T8 prefix in 1981. I thought it was still KC6
back then, up to about 2002.
