[DX-NEWS] K1B: Update May 03.2002.
Folks, Not much to add today, other than that another 'batch' of 10.000 QSOs is in the log (still not on-line). This seems to be the daily average. There was very good opening on 80(CW) this morning, as well as on 40 (SSB), and 160. Many QSOs are made between 07:00 and gray-line time window. Unfortunately no 30 mtrs today. I have updated my web site with more-less known links and the first picture that arrived yesterday. http://www.magma.ca/~ve3exy We may have SSTV QSOs today. Other digital mode QSOs are already measured by the thousands (RTTY, PSK). The size of the files appears to be the problem for shipping the logs. If they chop the logs into pieces, the phone bill may happen to be everything but symbolic. All your yesterday's feedback messages have been passed over to the team. Stay tuned for the next report from the Island. 73 Nenad . ### --- Subscribe/unsubscribe, feedback, FAQ, problems, etc DX-NEWS http://njdxa.org/dx-news DX-CHAT: http://njdxa.org/dx-chat To post a message, DX NEWS items only, [EMAIL PROTECTED] Archives http://www.mail-archive.com/dx-news%40pro-usa.net/
Re: [DX-NEWS] QRM on bands
On Thu, 2 May 2002 John J Dize [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: I must say thiswe are quick to condem those for the QRM in past dxpeditions. And sometimes it is deserving. I must say the K1B dxpedition has been relatively free from annoying QRM and freq. police. It has been my observation over many years of DXing that when callers feel they have a good chance of contacting the DX station, they behave well. GOOD OPERATORS at the DX end, efficiently running a pileup instill this kind of feeling in the callers. Providing MULTIPLE STATIONS on several bands and modes, spreads out the callers, reducing the size of the pileups on each station which facilitates higher rates for each station. The more stations on the air, the better this works. The K1B DXpedition exemplifies both of the above principles. GOOD SHOW GUYS ! Tom N4KG GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! [DX-NEWS] K1B Log has some lost
Hi All, I worked K1B on 40m band RTTY at 14:37 UTC, 30-APR, but is not in log. That time, K1B was pirate ?? Tnx, Lee/DS5RNM
Re: [DX-NEWS] K1B Log has some lost
Hi Lee: There are no 40m RTTY contacts in the first batch of logs received from K1B crew and posted online (2046 RTTY/BPSK QSOs). Providing that they didn't forget to send logs from that activity, most likely you have worked a slim. [DX-NEWS] ARLP018 Propagation de K7VVV
SB PROP @ ARL $ARLP018 ARLP018 Propagation de K7VVV ZCZC AP18 QST de W1AW Propagation Forecast Bulletin 18 ARLP018 From Tad Cook, K7VVV Seattle, WA May 3, 2002 To all radio amateurs SB PROP ARL ARLP018 ARLP018 Propagation de K7VVV Both average solar flux and daily sunspot numbers dropped last week. Sunspot numbers were down over 30 points, and solar flux was down nearly 20 points. But now that April is over, let's look at monthly averages. Average sunspot numbers for October through April were 197.4, 178.6, 217.5, 189, 194.5, 153.1 and 194.9. Average solar flux values for the same seven months were 208.1, 212.7, 236.5, 227.3, 205, 179.5 and 189.8. From these numbers it is apparent that April had higher solar flux and sunspot counts than March, but it is down from previous months. During the last half of April, three coronal mass ejections sent energy past earth, and the results were geomagnetic storms around April 17-20 and April 23. Energy from a coronal hole should sweep past us shortly, but it shouldn't cause the kind of upset that April's storms brought us. Over the next few days expect moderate geomagnetic activity with a rising solar flux. Flux values are expected to rise above 180 by Sunday, and peak for the near term above 200 around one week from now. Lower geomagnetic indices are generally good for HF propagation. The solar flux is rising, which is also good. 10-meters should be fading away as we move toward summer, but 15-meters should do quite well over the next month. This summer 20-meters should be excellent during nighttime. WB6RIB sent along a URL for a fascinating web site devoted to the 50-foot solar tower at the Mount Wilson Observatory in California. You can point your web browser toward http://www.astro.ucla.edu/~obs/intro.html to see this. To me the most interesting feature of this site is the archive of hand-drawn pencil sketches of the sun's surface dating back to January 4, 1917. The story of these drawings (which are really tracings) and how they are made may be seen at http://www.astro.ucla.edu/~obs/150_draw.html. There are many very old drawings, including sets from the years 1128 to 1800. Next week Carl, K9LA takes over the bulletin while K7VVV leaves town. Sunspot numbers for April 25 through May 1 were 208, 160, 173, 121, 124, 113 and 166 with a mean of 152.1. 10.7 cm flux was 167.3, 162.6, 156.9, 147.1, 153, 153.4 and 162.4, with a mean of 157.5, and estimated planetary A indices were 5, 6, 8, 19, 9, 8 and 5 with a mean of 8.6. /EX --- Subscribe/unsubscribe, feedback, FAQ, problems, etc DX-NEWS http://njdxa.org/dx-news DX-CHAT: http://njdxa.org/dx-chat To post a message, DX NEWS items only, [EMAIL PROTECTED] Archives http://www.mail-archive.com/dx-news%40pro-usa.net/

I have to comment on the great job being done by the K1B crew. Due to their outstanding operating plans and efforts, I have been able to make SSB and CW contacts on 10,12,15,17,and 20M, and CW contacts on 30,40 and 75M. They are making it easy for us. [DX-NEWS] Baker
Hi folks, Saturday, May 4, 2002 [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote to Art RX9TX: mwn so since i got mine = good dx pedition? Not that simple. First of all it depends on contacts made with the part of the world thru the polar path, like western Eu from KH1. As I can see all of G, F, EA, PA, ON station luckily made multiple contacts with Baker. Polar path contacts must be the first goal of every dx pedition, and Baker team gives a chance to every european. If to compare Baker and Clipperton operations I remember europeans complaining that they could not break thru USA pile-ups, and I was happy to make a single QSO with FO0AAA. And I remember huge Eu/west Asia pileups on FO0AAA last day of operation. 20m pileups on K1B are very thin, and they have 5 more days of operation. 73...Art RX9TX04.05.2002 3:21 UTC --- Subscribe/unsubscribe, feedback, FAQ, problems, etc DX-NEWS http://njdxa.org/dx-news DX-CHAT: http://njdxa.org/dx-chat To post a message, DX NEWS items only, [EMAIL PROTECTED] Archives http://www.mail-archive.com/dx-news%40pro-usa.net/
