[DX-NEWS] QSL requests via KU9C

2002-08-14 Thread Steven Wheatley KU9C

Folks,

In an effort to serve you better as a QSL manager, I am requesting that, going
forward, that when you request a QSL via KU9C, please observe the following with
DIRECT qsl card requests:

IF you are in a hurry to get your card back, send ONLY one call per envelope. I
manage over 100 calls, PLEASE do not send more than one call IF you are in a hurry.

If you are in a hurry to get your card back, please do not request QSL cards for
stations (primarily BQ9P) for which I carry multiple operation dates). This is
essentially the same as asking for multiple call signs in my process.

I am willing to accept multiple calls per envelope, but please understand that this
will likely delay your card. If you send, for example, PW0T and YA5T, which many
have, do not expect to see your card back in the same time frame that others that sent
ONLY one of those calls. Thus, when you read the reflector, and someone says I
received PW0T, yours will be delayed.

Note that I will accept bureau cards, bureau requests via email, and QSLs sent direct
without SASE will be replied via bureau. I am currently close to a year behind in
answering these cardsso be very patient.

I regret asking for this help from you, but in light of several very impatient folks,
some who have taken to asking the folks I manage first rather than emailing me to see
status, I've decided to put these requests into place to help YOU in getting your
card. In the last few weeks, I've had over 300 requests to find the status of ones
card. OVER 80% of these requests were delayed due to the fact that multiple calls
were requested. The time I spend just researching this takes time away from putting
stuff in the mailbox.

Status: I am attempting to catch up with YA5T, and a majority of cards for QSOs
before June have been answered. PW0T cards, I've currently mailed over 10,000 QSL
cards, and roughly 4500 envelopes. At one point there was some 20,000 plus envelopes
at my QTH, so you can see how the progress is going.

BQ9P has been ordered, and I expect that these cards will go out in September,
although I do have a few weeks of vacation coming up...I will do my best.

Re: [DX-NEWS] QSL requests via KU9C

2002-08-14 Thread ronsue

As the lyrics go Who could ask for anything more?

Not sure if it helps the process but I even add ATTN:BQ9P, or whatever, in
the lower left corner of the envelope. Please remember the costs associated
with the DXpeditions along with the cost of printing cards, etc.

Thanks Steve for a great job.

[DX-NEWS] RTTY Survey Announcement - 2nd Time

2002-08-14 Thread Don Hill AA5AU

I've received about 100 submissions to the RTTY survey. However,
the submissions are starting to fall off drastically and I feel the participation
is not at the level it should be.

The problem is that most of the top RTTY ops have submitted their
needs list, but others have not. Because of this, only the most rare entities
are being calculated and not those farther down the list.

The results will be used by many. Anyone wanting to plan a DXpedition
or vacation can use the results to help them determine which entity might
be more desired on the digital modes.

So it's not just the top RTTY operators results we need. We need results
from every single RTTY operator. I maintain a current callsign database with
over 21,000 callsigns of stations worked on RTTY. So having only 100 stations
submit to the survey does not give a realistic result of which entities are most needed
on the digital modes overall. We need your needs list on RTTY no matter now
many you need!

If you have not already submitted to the survey, I ask that you do so.

http://www.aa5au.com/rttysurvey.html

Thanks,
Don AA5AU

Subject: [RTTY] RTTY Survey Announcement

You are invited to participate in a RTTY Most Needed DXCC Entities Survey.
Instructions on completing and submitting the survey form are at:

 http://www.aa5au.com/rttysurvey.html

The link to the actual survey form is at the bottom of that page.
In addition to the instruction page and form page, there is a Results Page.

All three pages can be accessed from my main RTTY page at
 http://www.aa5au.com/rtty.

This is more of a digital mode survey than just RTTY mode since the
RTTY DXCC Award includes all digital modes. The entities listed on the
form is nearly exact as from the ARRL DXCC list on their website with
 only a few exceptions.

The more entries received, the more accurate the results. Anyone who
has operated RTTY (or digital) is asked to participate. It doesn't matter
how many countries you need on RTTY, please take the time to include your
input. Please make sure your data is complete and accurate.

Thanks to all the beta testers who tested the form before its release. The
only known issue is if you have the security set too tight in your browser,
 the form will not work.

Feel free to pass this invitation on to others or use the results anyway
you wish to promote the digital modes.

Thanks for your participation. Comments in the Comments field of the
survey form are appreciated but not required.
