[DX-NEWS] Fogged DX photographs
Warning, when u fly to that fab DXpedition, beware of X-ray machines and your photographic film. The newer x-ray machines WILL fog your still photographic film, producing washed out prints. If u have left over / half shot film in ur camera, it will be fogged in airport x-ray machines. It is very difficult to fix the fogging during printing or re-printing. Beware airport x-ray machines. Here's a long-ish article about travelling with film: http://www.artwolfe.com/archive/tips_02.html NEVER NEVER EVER put film in your suitcase - those X-ray machines WILL KILL it. Put it in your carry-on instead. It's often OK to let film go through the carry-on scanner, especially slow film (ISO 100 or ISO 200). However, my wife will NEVER put any film through it, even ISO 50. As Art Wolfe points out in the article above, the effect is CUMULATIVE. 73 - Jim AD1C = Jim Reisert AD1C, 7 Charlemont Court, North Chelmsford, MA 01863 USA +978-251-9933, <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, http://www.ad1c.com PGP Fingerprint: D8E2 3D78 339F A7F1 8C13 1193 B5D1 4FB6 79D1 70DC --- Subscribe/unsubscribe, feedback, FAQ, problems, etc DX-NEWS http://njdxa.org/dx-news DX-CHAT: http://njdxa.org/dx-chat To post a message, DX NEWS items only, [EMAIL PROTECTED] Archives http://www.mail-archive.com/dx-news%40pro-usa.net ---

go to your camera shop...they sell these nice lead bags..and they're not that expensive. For QSL card pictures, I recommend a digital camera with HIGH resolutionyou have a lot more flexibiltiy in cropping/editing for that 'perfect' shot. 73 --- Steve Wheatley KU9C PO Box 31 Morristown NJ 07963-0031 U.S.A. email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.ku9c.com/ -- Original Message -- From: Jim Reisert AD1C <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: Fri, 27 Jun 2003 08:07:57 -0700 (PDT) >Here's a long-ish article about travelling with film: > > http://www.artwolfe.com/archive/tips_02.html > >NEVER NEVER EVER put film in your suitcase - those X-ray machines WILL KILL it. > Put it in your carry-on instead. Re: [DX-NEWS] Fogged DX photographs
Yes the carry-on seems safe. I just returned from SV9 and had film in the carry-on, it did survive rundtrip SM2 - SV9 just fine, it was ISO 200 film. By the way, if you go to Crete and the Chania airport be prepared to stand in line a very very long time to enter the terminal building. They just have one X-ray machine and we had to stand in line outside in the heath for more then 2 hours just to enter the terminal building, sure was a big mess. 73 Jim SM2EKM --- Jim Reisert AD1C wrote: Here's a long-ish article about travelling with film: http://www.artwolfe.com/archive/tips_02.html NEVER NEVER EVER put film in your suitcase - those X-ray machines WILL KILL it.
