[Dx-packages] [Bug 1229370] Re: Launcher is empty saying Sorry, there is nothing that matches your search

2013-10-20 Thread Tomdkat
I also started having this problem after upgrading from Ubuntu 13.04
(64-bit) to 13.10. I checked and I also have unity-scope-home
installed, so I'm not sure why I would be getting this problem. Can we
change the status from Invalid back to New?

Peace...

[Dx-packages] [Bug 880881] Re: Power indicator does not combine multiple battery status

2013-10-20 Thread Andrew Riddlestone
Just installed 13.10 on my laptop with two batteries (previously running
Gentoo). Got worried when battery seemed to be draining much faster than
Gentoo/Gnome, but realised it was basing it's calculations on a single
battery. It just went from 0% to 98% as the laptop switched between
batteries. Both were present in the dropdown, as in the initial bug
report. Any news?

  Linux 3.0.0-12-generic #20-Ubuntu SMP Fri Oct 7 14:56:25 UTC 2011 x86_64
x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

The power indicator (indicator-power, version 0.9-0ubuntu2) does not combine
the status of both batteries.
E.g. if one battery still has 1 hour left, and the other has 2 hours left, it
will show 1:00 or 2:00, instead of 3:00.
E.g. When the external battery is almost run out (but the internal one is
still charged), the indicator becomes red, instead of staying white/grey. It
should only be red when both batteries are almost drained.
E.g. when the internal one is fully charged, and the external one is
discharging, the estimated time show is the estimated time that the external
one will be discharged, not taking into account the internal one. see attached
screenshot (total time show should be around 4 hours)

The original applet provided by gnome (I re-enabled the notification
area) does (still) have the behavior as I expect. In other words, this
  is a regression compared to 10.10 (pre-unity).

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1232814] Re: Hibernate option is missing from menu in 13.10 even after trying to re-enable

2013-10-20 Thread Sergio Callegari
They just do not realize that there are exactly as many hardware related
problems without hibernate.

Many machines use way to much power in suspend mode and drain the
batteries. When the battery goes off, say after 8-20 hours, you loose
data.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1242281] [NEW] system-devices-panel* icons are missing from icon themes after upgrade to 13.10

2013-10-20 Thread Adrian Scripcă
Public bug reported:

After upgrading from 13.04 to 13.10 (beta), system-devices-panel* icons are
missing from the icon themes. This has the effect that indicator-session icon

used icon names are defined in indicator-session's service.c panel.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1232814] Re: Hibernate option is missing from menu in 13.10 even after trying to re-enable

2013-10-20 Thread Pablo180
#10 I can't understand how this isn't intentional, it was purposely
removed before 12.04 was released, but there was a workaround to get it
back in the menu, now oddly the ability to use that workaround has also
been removed. Windows 8 also by default removes the hibernate option,
but it is simple to add back.

As Sergio says, suspend is also problematic, I have lost count of the
amount of times I have opened my bag to find my laptop has awakened from
suspend in my bag and toasted away, not to mention the times when it
flatly refuses to suspend at all and just resumes before I get out of my
seat. Forcing me to either close down every application, make sure
everything is saved and then shutdown, or hibernate. Then there is also
the all too frequent problems of Compiz hanging or crashing when
resuming from suspend, forcing a hard reset. Not to mention the problem
Sergio points out of the device inexplicably losing power whilst in
suspend mode.

I've always found suspend a far riskier option than hibernate.

just upgraded to 13.10. bluetooth is now totally useless.

adding device: timeouts if you tick for dun networking

selecting browse files from bluetooth indicator: does nothing at all.
does not even open nautilus

sending files: GDBus.error.org.openobex.Error.Failed:Unable to request
session

trying to send file from phone: fails

bluetooth-applet: missing from package

IMPORTANT:

to satya: do not try to use rfcomm. it's utterly broken, crashes the
system and the crash happens in such a way that it is delayed wrt the
actual issue causing it. for seconds, maybe minutes, your kernel works
with data areas that may get rewritten with garbage. scary. may lead to
severe data loss. now fixed in kernel 3.12 but fix will not be
backported and ubuntu does not even ack that there is a bug and keeps
resetting bug report to unconfirmed/incomplete state.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1242307] [NEW] Doesn't indicate the right hour

2013-10-20 Thread Audiger Jeremy
Public bug reported:

Hi,
I'm using Ubuntu 13.04 64 bits. I have a problem with the indicator Date-Time.
I'm using the option Automatically from the Internet to retrieve the hour for
my system, it's works fine on my home network. But when I use a public network,
this function doesn't work properly. It's due to the limited allowed ports I
believe. So what are ports using in the indicator Date-Time for retrieving the
hour?

The most common port on a public network is just 80 (http port)

  Doesn't indicate the right hour

Status in “indicator-datetime” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Hi,
  I'm using Ubuntu 13.04 64 bits. I have a problem with the indicator Date-Time.
I'm using the option Automatically from the Internet to retrieve the hour
for my system, it's works fine on my home network. But when I use a public
network, this function doesn't work properly. It's due to the limited allowed
ports I believe. So what are ports using in the indicator Date-Time for
retrieving the hour?

The most common port on a public network is just 80 (http port)

PS: I'm using a public network all weeks, so that's important for me
because I want to know sometime the hour..

[Dx-packages] [Bug 968533] Re: Alt-tab to Firefox sends Firefox to 100% CPU; unity-panel-service to 80% CPU and hud-service to 20-80% CPU

2013-10-20 Thread Pablo180
13.10 newly installed and I am seeing this issue too, I didn't have it
previously. If I leave Firefox and then come back firefox, hud-service
and unity-panel service are maxed out, Firefox is unusable for several
seconds. This also occurs when using Firefox although to a lesser degree
i.e. scrolling sometimes lags, switching between tabs takes a few
seconds and the page can become unresponsive. I've been using Firefox
since 2004 so I also have a lot of bookmarks.

I've been seeing UI hangs after switching tabs in Firefox, and

It can take 3-8 seconds to change *tab*. During this time the CPU is

53 0.6 6:14.86 hud-service
38 1.5 6:42.14 unity-panel-service

I suspect that the change is causing a (an inefficient) re-index
related to updated menu structures. (Eg. something like the history
menu, although I can't see what it is as don't currently have a menu
  bar).

2013-10-20 Thread Pablo180
Just to confirm what jdstrand has already said disabling Add-ons and
running in safe mode makes no difference. I had to follow his advice
regarding 'ui.use_unity_menubar = false' in order to stop this
behaviour and gain back some battery life as a laptop with a browser
that uses 100% CPU every few seconds doesn't last long.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1195065] Re: No Filter results in Video lens

2013-10-20 Thread Dac Chartrand
As an aside:

* I disabled all Dash Plugins that queried external video sources.
* For over a week, two cached results would appear in Online results. Clicking
on these results led to a blank Dash dialogue.
* I was only able to remove these by doing: Security Privacy - Files
Applications - Clear Usage Data

Expected: No cached results when plugins are disabled
Actual: Cached results, that led to nothing when clicked.

Thanks.

Title:
Unity dash searches forever, no search results

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Since upgrading from 13.04 to 13.10 (beta) I can no longer launch
applications by searching them in the dash (topmost entry in the
launcher bar). Whatever I enter as a search term, the spinning circle
rotates, rotates, without ever showing any results. No message about
nothing found, either. Launching applications from the command line
or from the launcher bar works just fine.

To make sure we talk about the same I made a screenshot, please find
  it attached.

I tried to remove everything in $HOME/.cache, no change.

Then I ran unity in a terminal:

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1165420] Re: Unable to access indicators from HUD

2013-10-20 Thread Rüdiger Kupper
Please bring back this functionality.
Intergrating options across several applications was *the* benefit of the HUD.
If I want to choose from the options of the currently focused applications, I
can simply select the preferences menu. What made the HUD unique was that it
showed options from several applications at the same time.
If you chose to change this and show only options from the current application,
there is nothing left that the HUD can do over what the application already can.

Why do you kill one of the most innovative inventions ubuntu created
since long? Now the HUD is no more than an application menu. This
definitely was not what it was intended to be...?

Unable to access indicators from HUD

Status in Unity HUD:
  Opinion
Status in “hud” package in Ubuntu:
  Opinion

Bug description:
In Ubuntu 12.10 I was able to use HUD to access Messaging menu and Gwibber's
Update Status option there, making status updates to Twitter easy and fast.
I could also use HUD to change my status in Empathy from Available to Busy
and vice-versa.

In Ubuntu 13.04 Beta HUD no longer finds the Update Status option when
typing Update Status or Update
Also writing Available Away or Busy no longer gives any results.

Other indicators however are accessible and I can use HUD to Suspend
my computer or to view Skype status or Ubuntu one indicator options.

  Repeating:
  1. Press alt key to start HUD
  2. Write Update status or Available

  What was expected:
HUD should have shown options ether from Gwibber to Update Status or Empathy
to change status to Available both available from the messaging indicator.

  What happened:
  HUD didn't find any results.

  Notes:
  I have Ubuntu 13.04 Beta 64bit upgraded from Ubuntu 12.10 64bits and I'm
using proprietary fglrx drivers.

Thanks Benjamin, though I don't think doing a killall on every login is
a valid solution. I still consider this a bug in indicator-session.

2013-10-20 Thread Pablo180
Jesse, I admit I am by no means an expert, but I don't understand,
surely it is the same problem with the same causes and symptoms, but
just with a different workaround?

I don't really see how 13.04 makes any difference now anyway, it hasn't
been fixed and it certainly won't be fixed for 13.04; support for that
release ends in three months if it hasn't in all practicality ended
already?

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1234458] Re: Indicator stuck on mouse icon, along with estimating...

2013-10-20 Thread Ohad Lutzky
After a little research, here's what I think is going on: The power
level information from Logitech mice (using HID++) has very low
resolution, as can be seen in hidpp-device.c from the upower package:
Power level will always be reported as one of [5, 20, 55, 90]. Power
drain rate (in watts) is not reported, so I assume the power indicator
is trying to figure out how long the battery will last just by taking
the differential of the power level. Since this never changes (until it
drops by a whole level), the estimate is always infinity.

The solution should be to modify the estimation algorithm so that if it
fails to estimate within 1 minute or so, it just reports the power rate
(55% in your case).

I'd suggest, if possible, to make the mouse charge state indicator

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1208204] Re: indicator-sound no longer functions with xfce4-indicator-plugin

2013-10-20 Thread Richard Elkins
pq, I didn't test on a 32-bit OS either because I don't have one. I
should have eyeballed that in any case. Message #65 does not cover the
x86 case.

I am using the patch in message #5 instead (no conditional code). This
is fine because the script exits in a non-XFCE case ahead of time.

Please see the included READ-ME file. Hope this automation makes the
work-around situation less painful for any machine architecture using
XFCE.

Richard

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1148033] Re: GDBus.Error:org.openobex:Error.Failed: Unable to request session

2013-10-20 Thread Maja Kurcius
I have the same bug in newly installed ubuntu 13.10 (clean install).
There was a problem with even pairing my Galaxy SII phone with my Dell Latitude
E4300. When I tried to pair it via the phone, it did, but I couldn't send or
receive files from and to any of the devices. But when I tried to pair it via
my laptop, it wouldn't even pair. Just the message that it failed. Also in both
cases no request or message was seen on any device.
I managed to pair it, however, trying to do it on both devices simultaneously.
And then the message appears on both devices.
I still wasn't able to send or receive files because the connection was off
according to my laptop. However, I found a workaround for this too - you have
to establish the connection, e.g. try to connect from the phone (it establishes
the connection for a few seconds) and while it's on, send the file(s). It works
then. I only tried it with a small picture though. I hope it helps someone who
needs it.
Previously, in ubuntu 12.04, I was able to use it with my previous phone (SE
G502) but only through browse files on the device or sending files, it
wouldn't receive files.
Anyway, it would be nice to be able to use bluetooth without any problems.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1242429] [NEW] tap on super key shows keyboard shortcuts instead of launcher

2013-10-20 Thread Krister

  window-stack-bridge crashed with SIGSEGV in
  QDBusAbstractInterface::asyncCallWithArgumentList()

Status in “hud” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  How it happened:
  I am using DoubleCommander (doublecmd).
I have a doublecmd app shortcut locked to the unity launcher.
Up until the 13.04 release whenever I minimised DoubleCommander the launcher
icon behaved as if the app was closed and it refuzed to start when I clicked on
the launcher icon. The program process was still runnning.

  For 13.10:
  1. I minimised the app (pressed the window minimise button)
  2. (The launcher showed the icon as if the app was closed although the
process was still running in the background)
  3. When I clicked the launcher icon again the OS Error window showed up and
it led to this bug report
  4. I clicked the launcher icon yet again
  5. The app showed up and a duplicate app icon appeared in the launcher
  6. I pressed the window close button and the app and the process were closed
  7. If I press the the launcher icon again - repeat from step 5
  8. If I minimise after step 5 the app does not show up - I am not able to
start it again until I end the process from the System Monitor

I can't figure if it's an app problem or an OS problem.

I will try to reproduce the OS error window after I restart.

  I hope this info helps.

I upgraded from raring to saucy on my notebook, where hibernate was
enabled and working fine. Now the hibernate option is missing. I
followed the instructions on how to reenable hibernate
  (https://help.ubuntu.com/13.10/ubuntu-help/power-hibernate.html) but
the option is still missing. Hibernating from terminal via s2disk
  works.

File exists with proper content and permissions:
  $ sudo ls -l

  -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 111 Sep 29 18:52

  [Re-enable hibernate by default]

  -

Solution found by Jeffery To (jefferyto) in comment #13 to enable
  hibernate menuentry:

  File /etc/polkit-1/localauthority/50-local.d/com.ubuntu.enable-
  hibernate.pkla needs to contain:

[Re-enable hibernate by default in upower]
  Identity=unix-user:*
  Action=org.freedesktop.upower.hibernate
  ResultActive=yes

[Re-enable hibernate by default in logind]
  Identity=unix-user:*
  Action=org.freedesktop.login1.hibernate
  ResultActive=yes

Then reboot and run 'killall indicator-session-service' in terminal
from your session. For background see #13.

However this is not persistent across reboots.

does not even open nautilus or a file browser to explore the device.

sending files: opens a window with

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1242151] Re: COLOURlovers dash plugin appears twice and unable to go to next dash plugin in the preview window

COLOURlovers dash plugin appears twice and unable to go to next dash
  plugin in the preview window

Status in “unity-lens-applications” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I upgraded from Ubuntu 13.04 to 13.10 this morning.

When I open the Dash, go the Application lens, click Filter results
and select Dash plugins, the COLOURlovers plugin appears twice.

When I click on one of the two COLOURlovers plugins the preview window opens.
When I click on the arrow at the left (or press the left arrow key on the
keyboard) the previous Dash plugin is correctly shown in the preview window
(which in my case is Clementine).
But when I click on the arrow at the right (or press the right arrow key on
the keyboard) while in the preview window for the COLOURlovers plugin, I always
stay on the preview for the COLOURlovers plugin instead of going to the next
plugin (which should be Devhelp).

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1237361] Re: Clock options greyed out in settings and missing from top panel

2013-10-20 Thread Peter Surňák
Solved for me. I thought it was fixed as it was resolved after
installing some updates, but it may be restarting computer or unity.
Plus I played a bit with setting in dconf-editor for
com.canonical.indicator.datetime.

I would say switching off almost everything and then restarting unity
might be a way to go?

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1213834] Re: Dash query 2+2 should yield 4 by default

I'm affected by this bug as well. I'm surprised it got past QA, might
as well not have a calculator scope at all in its current incarnation.
Calculator scope hasn't worked right since 12.10 when it was added from
a PPA.

I see this behaviour as well on my desktop. Ubuntu 13.10 64bit, nvidia

I suspend using menu option, then resume by pressing power button. I get

the HUD is already open.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 968533] Re: Alt-tab to Firefox sends Firefox to 100% CPU; unity-panel-service to 80% CPU and hud-service to 20-80% CPU

2013-10-20 Thread Jesse Johnson
@paultait22 I agree that the problems are almost certainly related, but
for bug fixing it is important to clarify what version resulted in what
variation of the bug so that devs can look at the changes between
versions and figure out where things went from bad to worse. Most
developers don't have time to read the comments and aggregate all the
knowledge they contain. Typically they read the initial bug report,
briefly scan the comments for clues, then declare the bug fixed as long
as the initial problem is solved. Since your problem has one additional
condition, it is worth making a separate bug report that ALSO mentions
this bug report.

Hopefully in the future launchpad will offer an option for adding bug
variations so that a single report can house all the very similar but
non-identical bugs under one roof.

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:

I've been seeing UI hangs after switching tabs in Firefox, and
switching from other applications to Firefox.

It can take 3-8 seconds to change *tab*. During this time the CPU is
maxed out; typical output from 'top' during this period shows 'hud-
service' and 'unity-panel-service' combined using about the same CPU
  as Firefox itself:

   100 10.4 26:07.73 firefox
53 0.6 6:14.86 hud-service
38 1.5 6:42.14 unity-panel-service

I suspect that the change is causing a (an inefficient) re-index
related to updated menu structures. (Eg. something like the history
menu, although I can't see what it is as don't currently have a menu
  bar).

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1208204] Re: indicator-sound no longer functions with xfce4-indicator-plugin

2013-10-20 Thread Theredbaron
I am on Lubuntu 13.10 64bit. Now Lubuntu doesn't come with indiactor-
volume by default, but as the default volume applet sucks so I installed
it with indicator-volume-gtk, turned it on in the indicator settings,
and I got the same error. It didn't work till I did the fix.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1232814] Re: Hibernate option is missing from menu in 13.10 even after trying to re-enable

2013-10-20 Thread Shiraz Dindar
on a related note, to Sergio and anyone with heavy suspend battery use
-- the not-actually-hybrid-suspend-mode is actually better than real-
hybrid-suspend, and is easy to make work: http://www.webupd8.org/2012/11
/how-to-use-hybrid-suspend-in-ubuntu.html.

It works in 13.10 regardless of the missing hibernate from indicator-
session issue of this thread. I would consider it the best workaround
for this bug in fact.

Title:
Hibernate option is missing from menu in 13.10 even after trying to
  re-enable

Status in Ubuntu Documentation:
  Confirmed
Status in “indicator-session” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I upgraded from raring to saucy on my notebook, where hibernate was
enabled and working fine. Now the hibernate option is missing. I
followed the instructions on how to reenable hibernate
  (https://help.ubuntu.com/13.10/ubuntu-help/power-hibernate.html) but
the option is still missing. Hibernating from terminal via s2disk
  works.

File exists with proper content and permissions:
  $ sudo ls -l
/etc/polkit-1/localauthority/50-local.d/com.ubuntu.enable-hibernate.pkla
  -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 111 Sep 29 18:52
/etc/polkit-1/localauthority/50-local.d/com.ubuntu.enable-hibernate.pkla

  $ sudo cat
/etc/polkit-1/localauthority/50-local.d/com.ubuntu.enable-hibernate.pkla
  [Re-enable hibernate by default]
  Identity=unix-user:*
  Action=org.freedesktop.upower.hibernate
  ResultActive=yes

  -

Solution found by Jeffery To (jefferyto) in comment #13 to enable
  hibernate menuentry:

  File /etc/polkit-1/localauthority/50-local.d/com.ubuntu.enable-
  hibernate.pkla needs to contain:

[Re-enable hibernate by default in upower]
  Identity=unix-user:*
  Action=org.freedesktop.upower.hibernate
  ResultActive=yes

[Re-enable hibernate by default in logind]
  Identity=unix-user:*
  Action=org.freedesktop.login1.hibernate
  ResultActive=yes

Then reboot and run 'killall indicator-session-service' in terminal
from your session. For background see #13.

However this is not persistent across reboots.

then try this, this should work with the lxpanel and the xfce4-panel

Exec=/bin/sh -c 'if [ -n $(ps -U $USER | egrep lxpanel|xfce4-panel) ];
then /usr/lib/indicator-sound-gtk2/indicator-sound-service;else
/usr/lib/$(arch)-linux-gnu/indicator-sound/indicator-sound-service;fi'

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1072052] Re: [regression] HUD - No results from Messaging Menu

2013-10-20 Thread Amr Ibrahim
What is the status of this bug?

In Ubuntu 13.10, HUD doesn't show any results from all indicators. Has
this functionality been removed?
