[Dx-packages] [Bug 1071523] Re: Global menu hides when hovering over it
This will likely be my last contribution post. I am no longer giving unity a try. Even if parts of it weren't acting buggy on my setup, the very premise of UI evolution is to remove clicks and mouse strokes. Some of Unity does that other parts like the global menu adds extra clicks and mouse strokes. I've even searched on google for any official statement regarding the philosophy behind the global menu and have come up empty handed. if anyone has a link to such a document, I would enjoy reading it. Technical update: Last week my laptop started working half-and-half. on the laptop screen the global menu hides from me and on my extra monitor connected to the back of my laptop via a VGA port the global menu works just fine. One system, 2 displays, and 2 different unity global menu behaviors. I have installed the classic gnome in order to improve my productivity since this setup is a work setup not just a toy to waste time on. Resolution: For anyone that stumbles on this post and doesn't know how to get rid of the Unity monster, here is the command to install the gnome fall back session which looks like the classic gnome. $ sudo apt-get install gnome-session-fallback You then simply select this as your login session when you login into ubuntu to take advantage. Here is a link to better instructions if you need them. http://www.ubuntugeek.com/how-to-install-classic-gnome-desktop-in-ubuntu-12-04-precise.html It's a shame because there are some really good improvements in Unity that are truly on the right track of UI evolution. I hope they will get rid of some of the bad Ideas and release a retry version of Unity! [Dx-packages] [Bug 1199877] Re: unity-panel-service memory leak and 100% CPU usage
I've never had 100% CPU usage, only some kind memory leak that unity- panel-service slowly uses more and more memory. After the new packages the situation is better, but still, memory usage of unity-panel-service is increasing over the time needs to be killed at some point to allow to be re-loaded with acceptable memory usage again. Again: not so much CPU usage problem here, and it wasn't the case for me either, only the memory usage. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1199877] Re: unity-panel-service memory leak and 100% CPU usage
I can confirm that it is better now, but certainly not perfect. Matching subscriptions: dx-packages https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1233205 Title: maximize then unmaximize of gnome-terminal shrinks window Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: This sounds a lot like bug 772972, but I'm seeing it in saucy. If you maximize a gnome-temrinal and then un-maximize it, it will shrink by a full column and row. * run 'gnome-terminal' * click the maximize button (or keybinding 'maximize') * click the unmaximize button (or keybinding 'unmaximize') * notice that window has shrunk (if you do it repeatedly you'll end up with a very small window). [Dx-packages] [Bug 1053302] Re: ubuntu-overlay-scrollbars set to false shows no arrows in several cases
I still have this issue in 13.10. It's not mentioned here, but there is another significant usability issue with the non-overlay scrollbars. When you click on an area above/below the scroller widget, it jumps to that location in the document instead of scrolling up/down by one page. Traditionally the jump action is only taken if you middle-click. As mentioned in this bug, Firefox is a good resource for verifying what the normal, standard appearance and behaviour for scrollbars are. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to overlay-scrollbar in Ubuntu. Matching subscriptions: dx-packages https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1053302 Title: ubuntu-overlay-scrollbars set to false shows no arrows in several cases Status in “overlay-scrollbar” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I'm running 12.04, and prefer the more conservative style normal scrollbars over the overlay scrollbars. I have set them to false in the terminal: gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface ubuntu-overlay-scrollbars false However after doing so, with some apps (e.g. Nautilus, Document Viewer) my scrollbars only view a vertical bar, but no arrows on the top and bottom to scroll up and down (please find the screenshot attached for the bottom part). With some programs these are shown though, for instance Gummi and Texmaker. It would make a big difference (for instance when having to scroll pdf documents containing several hundreds of pages) to have those arrows reinstated. Moreover, it is more aestetic and adds to the pleasant working experience Unity is. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1225063] Re: cannot remove/uninstall online/offline indicator
The package involved is indicator-messages, so if you would like the envelope icon to disappear altogether you could just remove the package: sudo apt-get remove indicator-messages My problem is that I am using a mail client, so I need the indicator, but I don't want any of the status menu items (online, offline, etc). I think I have uninstalled all of the packages providing instant messaging, but the status items are still there. This was not a problem in the previous version 13.04. I found some instructions how to produce a patched package which hides the status icons: http://askubuntu.com/questions/185021/how-to-remove-or-hide-chat-status- icons-from-messaging-menu However, there should not be a need for that: they should not be showing at all if there is no need for them. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu.
