Sorry for interfering with my n00biness. But this downgrade you
discuss, is that the action of removing the old sound indicator from the
panel and replace it? That's what i did after the upgrade
13.04 - 13.10, and my indicator is working fine (except the audacious
control is gone, but i don't miss it) and my sound works perfect.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 857651]

2013-11-20 Thread e80f00
Hello,

Its great that you want to review the changes. But why do you require
them to be uploaded to bugzilla? Why do you not just retrieve them from
github?

git clone https://github.com/mmonaco/accountsservice.git
cd accountsservice
git checkout origin/exclude-v3
git format-patch -8

(You could replace -8 with master, but due to bad branching this
would prepend some unrelated commits from accountsservice.)

notification popups/baloons get blurred instead of transparent on
  rollover

Status in “notify-osd” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
You know those baloons which appear on the upper-right corner of the
screen when you are notified of something (e.g. network manager
  generates one of these when connection is established or lost;
thunderbird generate one when you receive emails, etc).

When you move the cursor over such a popup, it should _disappear_ or
become more _transparent_, so that you can see and interact with
what's behind it. This is what used to happen with gnome (but when I
used gnome I had compiz effects disabled).

Instead, when you move the cursor over it, it becomes just _blurred_,
as if being blurred would help you see through it, which it obviously
doesn't. It doesn't become even the slightest bit more transparent,
  just blurred.

Before I upgraded from 10.10, the popup used to disappear completely
when I rolled over it, which was the most reasonable thing. However, I
had compiz effects disabled, so I don't know if the blur-instead-of-
transparency is a new wrong behaviour introduced in unity or if it has
always been the (wrong) way it behaves with the effects turned on.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 967879] Re: hud-service has a memory leak (I think)

2013-11-20 Thread Antti Kaijanmäki
@eddyg-j:
could you describe the workflow on these machines: are there a lot of
applications being opened and closed constantly or are some apps running more
than others?

@rutsky-vladimir:
could you please file a separate bug against hud package?
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hud/+filebug
13.10 has a new hud package and the memory leak you are seeing most likely
unrelated to 12.04 memory leak.

drawn as expected (window without title bar) but the mouse has to be
the size of the title bar BELOW these controls. There seems to be a
y-offset of the height of the title bar.

I only noticed this for Picasa for now, but I found a report from
another user of this behavior there:
  http://answers.unity3d.com/questions/44091/mouse-input-offset-problem-

I attached a screenshot. Please notice the mouse pointer being below
the button, but the button is highlighted. Also the original title bar
is shining through the slightly transparent globalmenu-bar. Picasa is
3.8 installed into the original Picasa 3.x-wine-environment from
Google (picasa-package). This is on Natty with today's updates.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1083084] Re: add option for alt-tab window grouping disable

2013-11-20 Thread biddster
Have to agree. Would love to see this feature. My workflow uses windows,
I tend to not care which application they belong to. I just want to see
the recent list of windows I've interacted with. Sure you can enable the
static switcher, but that's jarring and flickery.

Bug description:
Good day, thank you for your wonderful work on Unity, I find it very usable.
The only thing that bothers me is the window grouping, as described here:
  http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1826736

  quote:
MY Question is if its possible to disable the Grouping part... such as
having multiple nautilus windows.
Primarily thunderbird is the largest annoyance.. if im writing an email on my
laptop and accedentally (touchpad 'palming') off the 'compose message' window;
by default and second nature, my brain tells my fingers to alt-tab back into
it. unfortunately, this DOES NOT WORK!

Basically, I am trying to restore Alt+Tab functionality from Unity 2D. I
tried number of other switchers, all have their separate issues. For example,
Static Application Switcher does not show minimalized windows (or windows
hidden by the show desktop shortcut), etc.
  Thanks :)

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: unity

Currently Unity has two methods for showing current application information
in the top panel:
  a) Maximised windows show the window title, and the menu when the mouse is
over the panel.
  b) Non-maximised windows show the name of the application, and the menu when
the mouse is over the panel.

I find the a) case great, as it saves a lot of space. The complexity
of having two GUI elements are in the same space feels acceptable as
in this mode it is clear making the best use of space is important.

  The b) case feels clunky:
  - When you open a new application there is no menu visible, which makes me
wonder where are my menus?
  - The application name doesn't convey any useful information - the name is
already on the window.
  - When you move the mouse over the panel, the menus show, but the interaction
with the title looks messy (the two elements overlap).

I think it looks clearer if the menubar is always visible for non-maximised
windows:
  - It is immediately obvious where the menubar is when first starting
applications
  - By seeing the menubar there, it is not as unexpected when it disappears
after maximising the window
  - The behaviour of the panel is simpler (i.e. it doesn't have the dual
function) when non-maximised.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1059632] Re: Keyboard shortcuts - Unity shortcuts change requires logout to be applied

2013-11-20 Thread Niko Pasanen
I can reproduce this problem on Ubuntu 13.10, Unity 7.1.2:

- Add new shortcut by pressing [+], name: test, command: gedit
- Assing keys to Alt+Ctrl+1 - Try it - Does not work
- Log out - Log in - Works.

Same with editing the 'test'
- Change command to 'nautilus', try Alt+Ctrl+1 - Does not work - Relogin -
Works.

For the meantime to those who suffer this bug: Add shortcut to command:
unity - relogin. Using the command will reload unity and make your new
commands work.

Semi-maximizing a window and then restoring it does not return the
window back to it's original place before semi-maximizing it.

  Steps to reproduce:

  1. Place window somewhere near the left side of the screen.
  2. Press Ctrl-Super-Right to semi-maximize the window to the right side of
the screen.
  3. Click the restore button.

Observe the window is restored to near right side of the screen
instead of back where it was originally near the left.

Note: Dragging the window to the left/right edge to semi-maximize
*will* restore the window back to its original position. It's only
  the shortcut that causes this.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1239710] Re: indicator-datetime or -session missing ~10% of the time

2013-11-20 Thread Dac Chartrand
All, this problem went away for me after I did, 1)

 dconf reset -f /org/compiz/
 setsid unity

And mostly 2)

I used to run a laptop and a monitor (dual monitor) with only 1
launcher, but since I reset Unity I have kept Launcher placement to
All displays - Ie. I did not touch the defaults after reset.

I did this October 16th and haven't seen the problem since.

Hope this helps.

I just upgraded to 13.10 today and have the same issue. This wasn't a
problem with 13.04. Running `gsettings set org.gnome.settings-
daemon.plugins.cursor active false` fixed it for me (from http

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1239710] Re: indicator-datetime or -session missing ~10% of the time

2013-11-20 Thread Tom Worley
Dac,
You may be on to something.
I've been getting this problem and I too run dual monitors with only the
launcher on the left hand display rather than the default on both screens.
Tom.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1165420] Re: Unable to access indicators from HUD

2013-11-20 Thread Franko Burolo
It really would be appreciated. My experience with HUD-related bug
reports till now has been quite negative... It's like whatever they are
doing with the HUD, they don't want to communicate it to the community,
which is quite frustrating. For example, the bug where the HUD didn't
work with LibreOffice remained unassigned forever... Then in Saucy it
just started to work again. But now we lost the Indicators... But at
least now somebody told us it was really a (bad) design decision.

I would really like to see more communication about the HUD, as I think
it is the best and most distinctive feature of Unity.

Title:
Unable to access indicators from HUD

Status in Ayatana Design:
  Confirmed
Status in Unity HUD:
  Confirmed
Status in “hud” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
In Ubuntu 12.10 I was able to use HUD to access Messaging menu and Gwibber's
Update Status option there, making status updates to Twitter easy and fast.
I could also use HUD to change my status in Empathy from Available to Busy
and vice-versa.

In Ubuntu 13.04 Beta HUD no longer finds the Update Status option when
typing Update Status or Update
Also writing Available Away or Busy no longer gives any results.

Other indicators however are accessible and I can use HUD to Suspend
my computer or to view Skype status or Ubuntu one indicator options.

  Repeating:
  1. Press alt key to start HUD
  2. Write Update status or Available

  What was expected:
HUD should have shown options ether from Gwibber to Update Status or Empathy
to change status to Available both available from the messaging indicator.

  What happened:
  HUD didn't find any results.

  Notes:
  I have Ubuntu 13.04 Beta 64bit upgraded from Ubuntu 12.10 64bits and I'm
using proprietary fglrx drivers.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 968533] Re: Alt-tab to Firefox sends Firefox to 100% CPU; unity-panel-service to 80% CPU and hud-service to 20-80% CPU

2013-11-20 Thread Ali Najafi
I’m experiencing high CPU load when switching to Firefox window (no difference
by whether Alt-Tab or mouse) only when I use HUD, and the only solution is to
end process of hud-service through System Monitor.
No problem afterward, or when I haven’t used HUD before.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 968974] Re: Some free applications looks like paid applications with price 0.00 and with buy button

2013-11-20 Thread michael perigard
still present while downloading free game 'wakfu' through software
center in 13.10 - asked to 'buy' and log into ubuntu one

all my comments are repeats of and agreements to the above; 'purchase'
or 'buy' as a button never ever makes sense gramatically in English for
obtaining a free product- there should be an 'install' button which is
consistent with the rest of the software catalog. if the software
catalog is having issues with free as in beer vs free as in speech,
that's a shame, because it should be a bastion and showcase for apps
that are free in both regards, as well as showing how free as in beer
but closed source apps play well with their FOSS friends and
alternatives. instead it seems the software center isn't even designed
to showcase free, closed-source apps that should be a simple automated
install :(

as usual, ubuntu doesn't have enough developers to keep up with 18 month
old UX bugs, and the debian core remains usable while the ubuntu user
experience looks well intentioned but unmaintained :/ not complaining,
just lamenting- I have neither the time nor the experience to contribute
more to ubuntu, and I don't expect others to pick up the slack. just
making an observation that ubuntu's most polished features tend to
appear as if they are perpetual alpha-builds.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1170647] Re: Clicking on Nautilus’ launcher icon opens new window instead of restoring the minimized one when browsing external drives/locations

2013-11-20 Thread EliCoten
I'm using 13.10. It seems to be somewhat related to this:
http://askubuntu.com/q/235805/38137

If you click on the Hard Drive launcher icon, a folder window appears
but the indicators show that it is a file window. If you then minimize
this window, it appears to go to the Files launcher, but actually the
correct way to restore it is to click on the Hard Drive launcher icon
again.

This is ok (ok, perhaps a little confusing for the user - the indicator
should really point to the Hard Drive launcher not the Files launcher
when such a window is open) provided that the hard drive icon remains
docked to the launcher. The real problem comes when you undock the Hard
Drive/Partition's icon from the launcher - then you have the same
behaviour with no reasonable alternative.

I hope this explanation makes sense.

Sometimes left clicking the nautilus launcher icon doesn't bring up a
minimized nautilus window. Instead of restoring the window a new
instance of nautilus is showing up.

  Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open a nautilus window by clicking on the launcher icon.
  2. Navigate to a symlinked directory whose target is located on a different
harddrive (for example: a symlink to a folder on a sd-card).
  3. Minimize the nautilus window.
  4. Try to bring up that window again by clicking the launcher icon.

  What happens:

  1. A new instance (window) of nautilus is opened.
  2. There's no obvious way to access the first window again. The only way is
ALT+TAB.

  What schould happen:

If a nautilus window is already open and minimized clicking the
launcher icon should bring up that window. This was the behavior of
nautilus windows in Ubuntu 12.10 (quantal).

2013-11-20 Thread hufemj
I tried Dac's suggestion, but it didn't work for me. I am using a dual
monitor system on a desktop. When I did the setsid unity, my menu bar
disappeared. I normally have it on the left side of my left monitor.
After rebooting, I had the menu bar on the left of both displays, but no
clock and no gear icon in the top status bar. I tried mirroring the
displays, but still no top status bar (except for Dropbox and the
Network Manager).
