When you move the cursor over such a popup, it should _disappear_ or become more _transparent_, so that you can see and interact with what's behind it. This is what used to happen with gnome (but when I used gnome I had compiz effects disabled). Instead, when you move the cursor over it, it becomes just _blurred_, as if being blurred would help you see through it, which it obviously doesn't. It doesn't become even the slightest bit more transparent, just blurred. Before I upgraded from 10.10, the popup used to disappear completely when I rolled over it, which was the most reasonable thing. However, I had compiz effects disabled, so I don't know if the blur-instead-of- transparency is a new wrong behaviour introduced in unity or if it has always been the (wrong) way it behaves with the effects turned on. [Dx-packages] [Bug 701294] Re: Always show menu bar for non-maximised windows

I find the a) case great, as it saves a lot of space. The complexity of having two GUI elements are in the same space feels acceptable as in this mode it is clear making the best use of space is important. The b) case feels clunky: - When you open a new application there is no menu visible, which makes me wonder where are my menus? - The application name doesn't convey any useful information - the name is already on the window. - When you move the mouse over the panel, the menus show, but the interaction with the title looks messy (the two elements overlap). I think it looks clearer if the menubar is always visible for non-maximised windows: - It is immediately obvious where the menubar is when first starting applications - By seeing the menubar there, it is not as unexpected when it disappears after maximising the window - The behaviour of the panel is simpler (i.e. it doesn't have the dual function) when non-maximised. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1243078] Re: Mouse pointer not displayed unless mouse attached
I just upgraded to 13.10 today and have the same issue. This wasn't a problem with 13.04. Running `gsettings set org.gnome.settings- daemon.plugins.cursor active false` fixed it for me (from http ://synergy-foss.org/osqa/questions/3148/ubuntu-1310-no-cursor-visable- with-synergyc) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. Without logging off, I connected a mouse. The pointer was displayed. I disconnected the mouse, and the pointer remained, even responding correctly to the synergy mouse events. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1165420] Re: Unable to access indicators from HUD
It really would be appreciated. My experience with HUD-related bug reports till now has been quite negative... It's like whatever they are doing with the HUD, they don't want to communicate it to the community, which is quite frustrating. For example, the bug where the HUD didn't work with LibreOffice remained unassigned forever... Then in Saucy it just started to work again. But now we lost the Indicators... But at least now somebody told us it was really a (bad) design decision. I would really like to see more communication about the HUD, as I think it is the best and most distinctive feature of Unity. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to hud in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1165420 Title: Unable to access indicators from HUD Status in Ayatana Design: Confirmed Status in Unity HUD: Confirmed Status in “hud” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: In Ubuntu 12.10 I was able to use HUD to access Messaging menu and Gwibber's Update Status option there, making status updates to Twitter easy and fast. still present while downloading free game 'wakfu' through software center in 13.10 - asked to 'buy' and log into ubuntu one all my comments are repeats of and agreements to the above; 'purchase' or 'buy' as a button never ever makes sense gramatically in English for obtaining a free product- there should be an 'install' button which is consistent with the rest of the software catalog. if the software catalog is having issues with free as in beer vs free as in speech, that's a shame, because it should be a bastion and showcase for apps that are free in both regards, as well as showing how free as in beer but closed source apps play well with their FOSS friends and alternatives. instead it seems the software center isn't even designed to showcase free, closed-source apps that should be a simple automated install :( as usual, ubuntu doesn't have enough developers to keep up with 18 month old UX bugs, and the debian core remains usable while the ubuntu user experience looks well intentioned but unmaintained :/ not complaining, just lamenting- I have neither the time nor the experience to contribute more to ubuntu, and I don't expect others to pick up the slack. just making an observation that ubuntu's most polished features tend to appear as if they are perpetual alpha-builds. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity-lens-applications in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/968974 Title: Some free applications looks like paid applications with price 0.00 and with buy button Status in One Hundred Papercuts: Triaged Status in Ubuntu Software Center: Confirmed Status in Unity Applications Lens: Confirmed Status in “software-center” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in “unity-lens-applications” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: Just watch an attachment screenshot. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1170647] Re: Clicking on Nautilus’ launcher icon opens new window instead of restoring the minimized one when browsing external drives/locations
I'm using 13.10. It seems to be somewhat related to this: http://askubuntu.com/q/235805/38137 If you click on the Hard Drive launcher icon, a folder window appears but the indicators show that it is a file window. If you then minimize this window, it appears to go to the Files launcher, but actually the correct way to restore it is to click on the Hard Drive launcher icon again. This is ok (ok, perhaps a little confusing for the user - the indicator should really point to the Hard Drive launcher not the Files launcher when such a window is open) provided that the hard drive icon remains docked to the launcher. The real problem comes when you undock the Hard Drive/Partition's icon from the launcher - then you have the same behaviour with no reasonable alternative. I hope this explanation makes sense. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. Matching subscriptions: dx-packages https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1170647 Title: Clicking on Nautilus’ launcher icon opens new window instead of restoring the minimized one when browsing external drives/locations Status in “bamf” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: Sometimes left clicking the nautilus launcher icon doesn't bring up a minimized nautilus window. Instead of restoring the window a new instance of nautilus is showing up. Steps to reproduce: 1. Open a nautilus window by clicking on the launcher icon. 2. Navigate to a symlinked directory whose target is located on a different harddrive (for example: a symlink to a folder on a sd-card). 3. Minimize the nautilus window. 4. Try to bring up that window again by clicking the launcher icon. What happens: 1. A new instance (window) of nautilus is opened. 2. There's no obvious way to access the first window again. The only way is ALT+TAB. What schould happen: If a nautilus window is already open and minimized clicking the launcher icon should bring up that window. This was the behavior of nautilus windows in Ubuntu 12.10 (quantal). @prabhath: Did you already have 'unity-scope-home' installed or did you have 'unity-scope-github' installed and you replaced it with 'unity- scope-home'? If you already had 'unity-scope-home' installed, did you uninstall it and then re-install it? Thanks! [Dx-packages] [Bug 1239710] Re: indicator-datetime or -session missing ~10% of the time
I tried Dac's suggestion, but it didn't work for me. I am using a dual monitor system on a desktop. When I did the setsid unity, my menu bar disappeared. I normally have it on the left side of my left monitor. After rebooting, I had the menu bar on the left of both displays, but no clock and no gear icon in the top status bar. I tried mirroring the displays, but still no top status bar (except for Dropbox and the Network Manager).
