Title:
wrong position of window reported after switching workspaces

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
After switching workspaces by using the mouse to click on
applications, the pointer position reported is not correct which cause
dropdown menus to be displayed at the wrong coordinates.

Because workspace switching using the keyboard or the workspace
switcher on the launcher works, I'll provide detailed instructions on
how to reproduce this behavior. I also attached a sample tcl/tk
program that shows this issue very well. You can execute this by
  installing `tcl8.5` and `tk8.5` and running `tclsh8.5 unity_bug.tcl`.

  Detailed instructions to reproduce behavior:
  1. Open an application (eg firefox, chrome, thunderbird) in the top-left
workspace.
  2. Run the sample program I provided in the bottom right workspace.
  3. Now click the file menu in the sample program, to see the position of this
window relative to the top left corner of the workspace.
  4. Now switch to the apllication in the top-left workspace by clicking that
application in the launcher (do NOT use the workspace switcher icon or the
keyboard)
  5. switch back to the sample program by clicking the sample program in the
launcher (again do NOT use the workspace switcher icon or the keyboard)
  6. click the menu again, note that the position reported is the position of
step 3 plus your screen resolution. Note that because of this the actual menu
will show in the wrong place (bottom left corner of the workspace).

After you drag the window, the behavior is correct again.

NOTE that this is not a bug in tcl/tk!
  Open http://www.w3schools.com/tags/tryit.asp?filename=tryhtml_select in
Chrome.
Then switch workspaces by clicking a program in another workspace and switch
back to chrome, the dropdown menu will not show up.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1254032] Re: wrong position of window reported after switching workspaces

2013-11-25 Thread Mark Westmijze
I also have this bug on a fresh install of Ubuntu 13.10.

However, first I had trouble recreating the bug when I followed the
instructions. But I clicked in the other application an additional time
(which was not described in step 4) , and not only on the icon in the
launcher. This already seemed to circumvent the bug, which would imply
that some event that is triggered once you click/(or do something) in
the other application does the magic which should also be executed once
you click the icon in the launcher.

This is not urgent because Launcher is working. This is rather anoying

clicakble and working by default action.

So when user wants to drag and drop item, Launcher became shaded and
one icon is visible (Look at attached image). In this situation I was
open two seperate nutilus windows and dragging item from one directory
to another. Suddenly Launcher is shaded. Is this graphic driver issue? I

  Impact:
the nautilus copy dialog don't get properly focussed by unity

  Test Case:
  - log into an unity session
  - copy a not too small file (so you have time to interact with the copy
dialog)
  - minimize the copy dialog
  - right click on the corresponding unity-launcher's icon, and pick show copy
dialog
  - the dialog should be displayed

  Regression testing:
Check that there is no focus issue with that dialog and the launcher

  --

While copying a large (8 gig) file across an SMB network, I minimized
it. The right click on the Nautilus Unity bar showed a Show copy
dialog item. Clicking on that item did nothing. The only way to get
the dialog back up was to open one of the two minimized Nautilus
windows and then minimize the one on top. After that minimize, then
the copy dialog was displayed on top of the other Nautilus window. I
couldn't find any way to get the copy dialog back on screen without
clicking around somewhat aimlessly displaying and minimizing Nautilus
windows until it appeared. The Show copy dialog right-click menu

It seems to be waiting on poll() on a couple of threads which
cumulatively add up to about 1.68 wakeups a second over a 1 hour
  analysis:

[ See the attached log, launchpad formatting sucks ]

I also observed a couple of brk() calls, and a small amount of heap
growth which may indicate it has a small memory leak, but I am
  speculating on this.

Attached is a full report from a 1 hour of monitoring indicator-power-

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1244250] Re: GSource leak in retry_registration()

2013-11-25 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package indicator-appmenu -
13.01.0+14.04.20131125-0ubuntu1

---
indicator-appmenu (13.01.0+14.04.20131125-0ubuntu1) trusty; urgency=low

  [ Charles Kerr ]
  * If we can't get the bus, exit instead of stacking g_bus_own_name()
calls on top of each other, leaking GSources. (LP: #1244250)

  [ Sebastien Bacher ]
  * Build with -Wno-error=deprecated-declarations.

  [ Lars Uebernickel ]
  * Call gtk_widget_destroy() to break potential ref cycles Calling
g_object_unref() is not enough for many of gtk's widgets.
  * window-menu-model: disconnect entry signal handlers by func instead
of id entry_object_free disconnected signal handlers by id. This
throws warnings when entry_object_free is called when disposing an
object, because signals are already disconnected at that point. This
patch uses g_signal_handlers_disconnect_by_func(), which works both
when the entry is alive and being disposed.
  * WindowMenuModel: insert action groups on the toplevel menus
Inserting them on the menu items was a workaround for the long-fixed
cloaking-bug in libindicator. It's not supported in gtk 3.10
anymore, because the menu tracker in gtk doesn't allow action groups
on menu items. That's for good reasons: it's more efficient and
consumers of that api should not modify the created menu hierarchy.

  * We really only need to keep a handful of properties up-to-date for
each upower device. Given that upower requires us to refetch all
properties with GetAll whenever it signals that it's changed, we
really don't need to keep bus proxies alive for each device.
Removing the autogenerated proxy code and just using a couple of the
direct GDBusConnection API calls cuts out some unnecessary overhead
according to health-check. See the before after profile logs

   CPU usage:
    PID ProcessUSR% SYS% TOTAL%
    1358 indicator-power-serv 0.05 0.04 0.08 (very light load)

It seems to be waiting on poll() on a couple of threads which
cumulatively add up to about 1.68 wakeups a second over a 1 hour
  analysis:

  Top polling system calls:

    1358 indicator-power-serv poll0.3376 polls/sec
   Total 1.6838 polls/sec

This contributes to a bunch of context switching by these threads:

  Context Switches:
    PID ProcessVoluntary Involuntary Total
   Ctxt Sw/Sec Ctxt Sw/Sec Ctxt Sw/Sec
    1369 indicator-power-serv10.75 0.1510.90 (moderate)

    1372 indicator-power-serv 0.00 0.00 0.00 (idle)
   Total 14.29 0.2214.50

[ See the attached log, launchpad formatting sucks ]

I also observed a couple of brk() calls, and a small amount of heap
growth which may indicate it has a small memory leak, but I am
  speculating on this.

Attached is a full report from a 1 hour of monitoring indicator-power-
  service for reference.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1254802] [NEW] glitch/bug in unity spread when switching between multiple windows with keyboard shortcut

2013-11-25 Thread Paul Greindl
Public bug reported:

Situation: if one spreads at least 2 windows of for example firefox
through super+2 (launcher shortcut) and then switches to spread at
least two windows of for example nautilus through super+1 unity/the
expo-plugin will mix the windows up in quite a strange way... See the
attached screencast!

Noticed this behavior for the first time in 13.10 today, but I guess it
isn't new. Also present in trusty, 14.04.

they are explicit such as PornView or because of religious reasons or
  other.

It's probably an impossible task to come up with something that is
100% safe all of the time, but we should at least reduce the risk of
embarrassing moments to an absolute minimum.

One solution could be to have the popcon ranking from the Software

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1242462] Re: bluetooth seems badly broken in saucy

2013-11-25 Thread Sergio Callegari
... and there is more!

in kubuntu bluedevil cannot add bluetooth DUN connections.

You can see this easily. If you run bluedevil-network-dun manually, with
the address of your device. A notification that the device is being set
up is provided, but nothing happens, no plan is being asked. If you
strace the command you see that it ends up invoking some misterious
command that should take as parameters

create --type bluetooth --specific-args dun

but no proper command name is passed to the execve!

trying to send file from phone to computer: fails

bluetooth-applet: this is missing from its package!

Even before fixing: put this in the release notes!!! Who needs bluetooth

we always don't remember good about the difficult name of the app we
installed. An entry forthe recently installed app will be a welcome.

  --
  Desired Solution:

As soon as an application gets completely installed, the software
center should log a Zeitgeist event for that application so that it
will be moved on top of 'Recently Used' category. That category header
excludes applications that are currently in the Launcher, so recently
installed applications *should not* show up underneath this category
header by default (And this won't happen because applications are now
automatically pinned to the Launcher after install).

It's still to define whether a zeitgeist event should be fired also
when a user unpins the app from the Launcher.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1165420] Re: Unable to access indicators from HUD

2013-11-25 Thread Aaron Gerber
Indeed, HUD management and communication has been quite poor for some
time.

When a design is complete, we'll add a work item in a blueprint to add
the feature. Sounds a lot like We're not ignoring you, we're just not
going to pay attention to you right now. Perhaps that's why this bug
was assigned to someone who, according to their own web page, prefers
Yellow Dog Linux and Gnome.

(Don't misunderstand, this is not intended as an attack on Mr. Gould,
about which I know very little. I'm simply voicing the general feeling
that the community and their opinions and preferences are being
neglected in favor of Canonical's grandiose designs for creating an OS
experience more like those of Ubuntu's commercial competitors.)

Status in “hud” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
In Ubuntu 12.10 I was able to use HUD to access Messaging menu and Gwibber's
Update Status option there, making status updates to Twitter easy and fast.
I could also use HUD to change my status in Empathy from Available to Busy
and vice-versa.

In Ubuntu 13.04 Beta HUD no longer finds the Update Status option when
typing Update Status or Update
Also writing Available Away or Busy no longer gives any results.

Other indicators however are accessible and I can use HUD to Suspend
my computer or to view Skype status or Ubuntu one indicator options.

  Repeating:
  1. Press alt key to start HUD
  2. Write Update status or Available

  What was expected:
HUD should have shown options ether from Gwibber to Update Status or Empathy
to change status to Available both available from the messaging indicator.

  What happened:
  HUD didn't find any results.

  Notes:
  I have Ubuntu 13.04 Beta 64bit upgraded from Ubuntu 12.10 64bits and I'm
using proprietary fglrx drivers.
