[Dx-packages] [Bug 1232814] Re: Hibernate option is missing from menu in 13.10 even after trying to re-enable
The status of this bug really gives the impression that no one cares about such bugs. Well, we do care but: - there is a lot to do - that bug concerns a non default option/a technical one, so it's not the most important item on the todolist - the number of comments make it difficult to read (one needs to spend like an hour trying to understand what's going on) What would be useful: - update the bug description to be an accurate summary of the situation (it seems from recent comments that only the documentation needs updating? if the summary was reflecting what needs to be done and sparing people to have to read 48 verbose comments to figure that out it would help to get the item picked up and resolved) - if you want to update the documentation and submit a merge request that would probably help to get the change in (https://code.launchpad.net/ubuntu-docs) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to indicator-session in Ubuntu. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1256590] Re: J. Random User Showing In Unity Power Menu Indicator
I have noticed the same issue (J. Random User appearing in menu) on my system today. I'm on Ubuntu 13.10 (32 bit). Yesterday I re-installed SciLab via Ubuntu Software Centre - this is the only change I made recently. Possibly automatic updates also occured in the background. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to ido in Ubuntu. Matching subscriptions: dx-packages https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1256590 Title: J. Random User Showing In Unity Power Menu Indicator Status in “ido” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Yesterday I encountered an issue that was very concerning, at least until I investigated a bit more, and found that it may only be due to debug/test code that's still be present in released software. The search I made brought me here. Please redirect me if I'm in the wrong place. J. Random User appeared in the Ubuntu 13.10 (x86_64) Unity Power indicator list, below 'Lock' and above '{my user name}'. This was only noticed as I was about to lock the screen, which I do a number of times per day, however, this time J. Random User was visible. There was no User Account for that entry in System Settings User Accounts. There was no one else logged onto the machine except my own username (checked by '$ w'). There seemed to be no rogue processes running (checked in log and current processes). From a security point of view, it was very concerning. But after my searches on the matter, I belive the machine not to be compromised, but tickled by 'developer test code'. Restarting the computer removed the issue. It could be coincidence, but the only bit of new software I tried (for the first time ever) was the Remmina Remote Desktop Client to see if was interested to remotely connect to another computer on the home network. After restarting my computer and running that software again, it did not cause a J. Random User to appear in the indicator, so it could be a red-herring. It could also be related to this? : https://code.launchpad.net/~larsu/ido/custom-menu-items/+merge/165498 Hope you know something about it, or can redirect this bug report elsewhere. Thanks. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1208204] Re: indicator-sound no longer functions with xfce4-indicator-plugin
Just wanted to add to the list of people having this same issue. All three of my machines (two Xubuntu and one Ubuntu Studio) that I updated now don't have a functioning indicator on the sound. I am not keen to having to install a workaround that includes holding updates to keep the workaround in place. Much rather this be fixed permanently. Two of my friends that I got to switch from Windows to Xubuntu also now have the same problem and now they are doubting their decision. I can't see how this is remaining a low priority since this is so visual. I am very new to the Ubuntu world and have been most pleased with Xubuntu and Ubuntu Studio and so have my friends but this is not giving a good impression to them. Thank you for your quick response. That has worked. I will pass this command on to my friends for them to run in a terminal window. Glad to see the priority is high. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1065660] Re: desktop performance is too slow
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1055936 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1055936 My experience is the following: The mentioned graphic card have neved worked fine with unity. VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation G72M [Quadro NVS 110M/GeForce Go 7300] Right now I'm using Ubuntu 13.10 and still the system works very bad. Very bad performance of the system (with others desktop systems the computer works perfect), a lot of crashes of the compiz process, problems in the drawing of the different windows. Sometimes the windows paints invalid data (ie: others parts of the screen or a noisy texture). Sometimes this behavior becomes more frequent, the windows does not get painted properly. If I move, or resize the window, it is repainted and looks works. Other times it does not work. Sometimes when the windows does not paint well the windows resize method does not work if the windows is resized to a higher size (ie: maximization). On the other hand if it is resized to a lower window size, it repaits well. Perhaps this experience are interesting for developers who may fix the bug. Matching subscriptions: dx-packages https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1257889 Title: Left clicking launcher icons only works once on specific dual monitor setups Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I'm using a dual monitor setup with 1680x1050 and 2560x1440 screens. When the 1440p is aligned to the right or below the other screen, and the launcher is just on the 1440p screen, each individual icon on the launcher only reacts to a left click once. After that, left clicking does not launch the application anymore but middle, right click and dragging the icon still works. Having the 1440p on the left or above the other screen does not cause this bug. Also having the launcher placed on both screens at the same time does not cause it. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1257852] Re: No Drivers
This is not a bug. The open source radeon driver is pre-installed for the GPU, although the information panel may say Unknown until you install mesa-utils package: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/946620 As for Realtek, please be more specific which device you think needs drivers (output of lspci might be helpful). Although Realtek does offer special Linux drivers for a lot of its common chipsets, most users will just want to use what's already built into the kernel. ** Changed in: indicator-datetime (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid ** Converted to question: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/indicator-datetime/+question/240325 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to indicator-datetime in Ubuntu. [Dx-packages] [Bug 390508] Re: notifyOSD ignores the expire timeout parameter
Well, it looks like the tide has turned toward sweeping this under the rug by changing the man page... Allow me to reiterate that this is the wrong way to fix this bug. The correct way would be to support the timeout parameter. That would also follow the freedesktop spec, if it still means anything to anybody. Case in point: Similar to adryoman5, I'm use a script that controls a television card and uses notify-osd to provide information much like the OSD on an actual television. Some of the messages are relatively important, others are unimportant. The --urgency parameter is not what I'm looking for as it only controls which messages a user will actually see (and users have no idea how to control which messages they will actually see). The best way to do this is to specify all the messages as -- urgency=critical to be certain they will actually make it onto the screen; but some of them don't need to stay there long. For example, when channel surfing, if I leave each CH+/- on the screen for five seconds, by the time I've switched five channels I might still be looking at the number of the first one, or possibly five numbers for five different channels. That would be dumb. The numbers need to be displayed, but they don't need to be displayed for five seconds each. Less than a second each would be acceptable. This is not possible with the current design. You might ask why I just don't replace each old notification with the next one, but then I'd have to redirect you to bug 257135 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to notify-osd in Ubuntu.
